Study: Men find mentally inferior women more sexually attractive

Still Alive
Via Telegraph: "Men are apparently pre-programmed to seek out women who act dumb as they make easier conquests, according to a study."

Not sure how much I buy into that.

Researchers said that at their core, the male of the species had changed little since Neanderthal times, when reproduction was their prime objective.

The US scientists spoke to a sample of men and women to draw up a list of 88 factors that made women appear more "exploitable" - such as those who bite their lips or look sleepy - or suggested they were attention seekers.

They then showed photos of women illustrating this type of behaviour or characteristic to 76 other men and asked them to rate how desirable they found them, the Daily Mail reported.
A physical vulnerability such as being short did not result in the men finding the women more sexually attractive.

But psychological vulnerability - such as when the women were immature or unintelligent - resulted in them being given a higher rating, according to the study by researchers at Texas-Austin University.

The men also ranked these women as more attractive than those who were portrayed as brainy, they found.

However, their interest fell off significantly when they were questioned about their interest in pursuing a longer-term relationship with the "dumb" women.

The study concluded: "The assessment of a woman's immediate vulnerability may be central to the activation of psychological mechanisms related to sexual exploitation."

Relationships expert Jean Hannah Edelstein said: "It's not a recipe for a happy relationship to select a partner based on what you perceive to be their inferiority."

Am I the only one who's not really convinced?

I feel like it's the exact opposite, for me. The biggest turn off ever is talking to an ignorant person, even if it's someone i've known for a while. Just bringing up political topics or whatever, and seeing them know what they're talking about is far more attractive than having moronic views. Maybe if you're sole purpose is to get laid, none of that really matters, but even then it's a bit of a turn off.

I guess it depends on whether a man is looking for a real relationship or just a one night stand..

I definitely find intelligence attractive, but I could definitely see some guys being intimidated by a woman more intelligent than they are.

Wtf?

Of course a chick biting her lips is sexy. Everyone knows that.

I was think the same. I guess maybe they are saying it indicates the woman is unsure of herself, and there for exploitable.

I like a stupid woman. Preferably with a nige figure to engage me since the conversation isn't going to.

Just once I'd like to see one of these articles describing what the general man is like and not be the opposite of that. So far it looks like I'm not the typical guy.

This thread is gunna go places...

I'd like a mentally superior woman, but they're all far too smart to fuck with my dumbass.

These threads...

I swear they are ban bait.

Also personally disagree with the study. Stupid women aren't attractive the moment they open their mouth.

And men are also desperate predators! All of them! It was posted in a NeoGAF thread by someone who is very smart!

Ugh not me. I want a woman that I can have actual smart debates on things with. If I start talking about Astronomy I want her to be able to chime in. :P

I have big questions about the methodology. Lip biting is sexy as hell, but it says nothing about the maturity or intelligence of the woman. Not to mention the idea of showing pictures of "brainy" activity versus "immature" activity probably involved a ton of bias on the part of the researchers.

But I have no doubt the conclusion is still true for many many men. Lots of men do not want to be intellectually challenged by their significant others. I don't think this is evolutionary though. I think it is based on insecurity and good ol' traditional gender roles.

The opposite for me. I think more men are intellectually inferior, and those dimwits were part of the sample that was taken to realize this study.

Unfortunately, this isn't really surprising.

edit: I'm not saying most males want a total idiot for a wife but, anecdotally, they like to be slightly more intelligent as it plays into the concept of masculine authority and even white knighting. These days (because women seem to be annihilating males in education) emphasis seems to be placed especially on having a higher level of "common sense".

It depends on what you are after. If I am spending more then 1-2 nights with a woman and she is dumb as a brick then there is no amount of hotness that could make it last.

Sorry ladies if you're not smart you're not getting my pants off. I'm only attracted to unintelligent women when I've been drinking.

Sexual attraction?

For me that hinges on... sexiness..

And being dumb isn't sexy. Don't have to be brainy to be sexy either; although I think it helps. To be sexy a woman has to be fairly self-aware of her body, and confident with her body and her sexuality. I think being intelligent helps, but you don't have to necessarily be all around brainy.

Although I've also met girls that had "ditzy" personalities that turned me off, but when it came down to getting dirty.. they were sexy as all hell. Upon further conversation with them, the "ditzy" personality appears to be a front.

Really, if a woman is really horny, and down to show it.. that's my biggest turn on.

Not surprising, seeing the amount of guys who still treat girlfriends and wives like posessions, they wouldn't want to be outsmarted by her.

That said, I think it's the minority. I'm usually smarter than the guys I hook up with but it works out because we want the same thing.

I dated someone briefly last November who I could describe as "mentally inferior". It was...unpleasant. My girlfriend now is ridiculously smart and clever to a point where it can be intimidating at times, and it's a huge turn-on for me.

The article title is really misleading, as "psychological vulnerability" does not directly translate into "Derp". It also points out that men are not as interested in pursuing relationships with these women.
