Professor Layton and the Mask of Miracles: October 26th in Europe!

This is Professor Layton's week, uh?

After Professor Layton vs. Phoenix Wright information about current development status, and the announcement of the sixth entry in the mainline series (Professor Layton and the Ruins of an Advanced Civilization), now we also know the date for the PAL release: October, 26!

Simultaneous digital release, in case anyone was wondering.

D1 for me.
I hope that the last one announced yesterday could come next year, exploiting the longer-than-expected pause Japan had.

The first Layton game I can't import from the US. Kinda sucks that I have to get used to different voices, but at least Europe is getting it at the same time as the US.

The UK voice for Luke is way better than the US one anyway.

That is debatable and not the point anyway. I've listened to a certain voice for four games in a row now and I would naturally prefer it if it stayed that way.
And nobody said I would buy the UK version anyway. I'll most likely pick up the German one.

I've always liked the covers the PAL versions of Layton get, but this one is pretty lame compared to the rest.
Going by the rating symbol, it looks like the North American box, but even if the PAL one ends up looking the same, I won't be picky. Shoot more Layton straight into my veins.

The Japanese cover was already horrendous.

I wonder what the hell they were thinking.
Good god. Did a raccoon crawl through their office window and steal the box design they intended to use at the last second? It doesn't just look rushed, the bright white clashes with the aesthetic and feel of the series.

Heh, actually Last Specter was the first - and probably only - one I *did* import from the US thanks to London Life! Oddly, I didn't really register the difference in the voices

Looking forward to picking this up! Daily puzzles will be a nice bonus on top of all the other stuff too.

It's been a while since I played the last one so I might be remembering it wrong, but shouldn't the box quote be "Every puzzle has an answer"?

The UK and US voices are different? Why?
I'm pretty sure Luke is the only character with differnt voices in the UK and US games (he's voiced by Maria Darling in the UK and Lani Minella in the US games).

Apparently the reason for this is that when localising the Layton games they realised that the voice used in the US version for Luke sounds like a really badly faked English accent when heard by people who actually hear English accents all the time so they got someone else to do his voice.

I just hope this game will get multiple languages, because I am not going to play it in Dutch. I can still import the UK-version though, right?

Hm, finally a reason to buy a 3DS. I think 99% of the playtime on my DSi can be divided into 50% Layton (me), 25% Zelda (wife), and 25% Nintendogs (daughter).

I wonder if it will be DD for NA too. Anyway, waiting warmly. Meanwhile I still have to finish the orignal trilogy. I only got through the first game, dunno why...

Day one physical release!

And US Luke is horrendous. No wonder he grates on a lot of people.

I also wished they had kept the VA for Grotsky and Descole from Eternal Diva for the games.

Nopenopenope

As a Londoner I loathe the UK Luke and his oiky ways. I'll take the US one anyday, as fake as it often sounds.

Awful cover.

I'm guessing the release here will only have the french dub, I'll have to import it from the UK... So day-whenever amazon delivers it.

I've only played the first one and I'm part way through the second. May skip some entries and get this one.

Same here, Italian voices are horrible as usual and in a game set in old London you can't have anything else than British English for the voice over!

EU box art thanks to my nintendo news:

I actually like that JPN box art.

Nice, but I still prefer the DS versions with no characters on the front cover.
Still my favorite of the three.

They really overdid it with the Layton releases imo, I'm kinda done with them. I'm only really excited for the Phoenix Wright crossover.

For me Professor Layton is a game of which I could never get enough. I only need good puzzles and a nice story.

Yes, looking forward to this one! As for Lani Minella (American Luke) vs Maria Darling (UK Luke), it's a bit of a zig-zag situation for me. Imported Curious Village so I encountered Lani Minella's Luke first, I thought it was really obviously fake but I thought it kind of added to the charm. Went with the UK version of the 2nd game which was my first exposure to Maria Darling and the voice really bugged me, probably because all I could hear was Roary the Racing Car!

However, by Layton 3 and Eternal Diva I'd grown to like UK Luke. Of course then they announced that Layton 4 wouldn't have London Life. So I promptly imported the US version, thinking that I was already used to American Luke so it'd be OK, but now I found myself really not liking the voice, finding it really forced. Maybe it was due to Luke's subdued nature in the game itself, I have no idea.

Anyway, I'm eagerly awaiting Miracle Mask. Glad that they've kept the titles consistent between the UK and the US this time.
