Microsoft’s ‘Halo 4’ debuts at No1 and arrived on Tuesday 6th November as the 16th event title launch of the year (normally defined as a Tuesday/Wednesday release).

There are only two more event titles to come this year, with ‘Black Ops II’ next week and ‘Hitman Absolution’ the following week – this total of 18 event games in 2012 is a record, up from 11 games in 2011. ‘Halo 4’ sold slightly more units than last week’s PS3/360 ‘Assassin’s Creed III’ (itself an event title from Wednesday 31st October) and ‘Halo 4’ ranks as the 18th biggest SKU launch in terms of week 1 units, but does not beat 2007’s ‘Halo 3’ (15th biggest SKU) or indeed 2010’s ‘Halo: Reach’ (12th biggest SKU). Ubisoft’s ‘Assassin’s Creed III’ drops to No2 (-73%), ahead of EA’s ‘FIFA 13’ at No3 (-13%). EA’s ‘Need For Speed: Most Wanted’ at No4 (-28%) exchanges places with Sega’s ‘Football Manager 2013’, now No5 (-47%).

Activision’s ‘Skylanders Giants’ climbs 2 places to No6 (+7%) and THQ drop 4 places to No7 with ‘WWE 13’ (-60%). The TV-advertised deal for ‘Borderlands 2’ certainly had an effect – the title climbs 11 places to No8, up 180% over last week. Ubisoft’s ‘Just Dance 4’ remains at No9 (+10%) and EA’s ‘Medal of Honor: Warfighter’ drops 4 places to No10 (-65%). The only other new entry in the Top 40 this week is Sony’s PS3 ‘LittleBigPlanet Karting’ at No24.

I feel releasing them this close was kind of dumb when the game has been gold for ages.

I imagine the tail end sales will be helped by a nigh complete lack of game releases after March 2013.

Certainly the three or so games (like GTA V) releasing in that window will benefit, but there won't be as many new releases to distract people from going "I'll buy this Holiday 2012 title for 50-75% off."

Layton 5 and IE Strikers both seem to be doing decently. Nintendo's really thrown Level-5 a lifeline this gen, I wonder if Hino can con Iwata into handling LBX for them too?

Code:
Q4 has got off to a rough start for UK games retail, with fewer games sold in
October than September.

In total 2.83m games were sold last month, a fall of 29.5 per cent over the same period a
year ago. This is also 20.5 per cent down over September, which benefitted from the late
release of FIFA 13.

In terms of revenue, the UK High Street generated £83m, which is 29.8 per cent down
year-on-year and 22.8 per cent down month-on-month.

The market dipped due to the lack of a major blockbuster in October. The data released
by Chart-Track runs up to October 27th, so does not include Assassin’s Creed III.

FIFA 13 was the No.1 seller, with Resident Evil 6 at No.2, Dishonored at No.3, Skylanders
Giants at No.4, and Medal of Honor: Warfighter reaching fifth place.

Electronic Arts was once again the top publisher.

All data is courtesy of UKIE/GfK Chart-Track.

So is LBP dead? Sony have been promoting Karting for weeks and it limps in at 27.

Nobody asked for a LBP karting spin-off. That fact remains no matter how much Sony try to ram it down our throats.
Little disappointing debut for Halo 4.
It didn't surprise me to be honest. We're at the end of a long generation which has already seen a bunch of Halo games. Despite a new developer, the franchise is still getting a little tired after 10 years and Microsoft really needs to be investing on some big new IP for the next generation - although I would love to see what a next-gen Halo would look like with 343 behind it.

A bit disappointing for Halo 4. especially after reading on that site that should not be named that Halo 4 has done 15% more than Halo 3/Reach on Day 1. So i was expecting it to do one up over Halo 3..

Btw do we have LTD shipment numbers of Halo 3/Reach Worldwide or for specific territoy..

I thought Skylanders was a big thing now. Are kids already over it or do they make most of their money with the toys?

Too early to say. Most of the kids investing now probably already had the first game, plus it's ideal Christmas present fodder so will be around for a while.

Plus, there's still the potentially huge new version to come...

Not surprised by Halo 4; still not the full image of the sales though. NPD will be too I suspect though.

I just don't think the marketing has been all that great, and its an insanely busy time games wise, AC3 last week - BLOPS 2 next? I'd say both relatively bigger than Halo. Still think MS has the right strategy of launching the trilogy and continuing it on the 720 though; but they might have done better with a 2013 release. Maybe even with a Twilight Princess like upgrade on 720.

Hopefully with 5/6 MS lossen the chains a wee bit; I'd jump in if the online were shaken up (few more hits to kill would make me enjoy it so much more) and if the close combat stuff was really utilised to the best of its abilities.

Halo is a close quarters FPS game, you win by getting close but its very simplistic outside of that. Least for me.

Its high time Nintendo make big decision regarding prices of games.

Whats this in view of?

Also the UK market is dead. Everyone needs to come together and rejuvinate that thing. Shame GTA isn't WiiU I've no doubt it'll suffer both short term and long term in that market - we need a next gen; can't blame it all on the economy.

Hows the rest of Europe, do we know? Is Germany the go to now? Those UK figures are a massive contraction.

Extremely dumb. I was shocked when they announced the date as they were obviously going to eat each others lunches.

But I imagine once the date was locked there was no changing it on both sides.

If Halo 4 would have launched even three weeks ago I would have got it then. Now it will have to wait.

Do Chart-Track tracks the Assassin's Creed Vita vouchers on the bundles as copies sold?
Because I'm not sure if they do, considering it's not a physical card.

Did $20m more in revenue with a cheaper limited edition $150 Reach vs $99 Halo 4, on top of that had lesser sales in UK (and probably other european countries) all of that points to sales rising in the US very nicely.

Australia continued the global success of Halo 4 setting two new local records. In its first week Halo 4 has become the largest ever Halo launch in Australia as well as the largest Xbox 360 game launch of 2012.

Little disappointing debut for Halo 4.

And UK top 10 from Famitsu it's not published anymore?

The last two editions that were supposed to have it didn't have it. They didn't even have the section where the top 10 appeared anymore. I haven't seen them posted on 2ch either.

Maybe the schedule changed or it's in a different section inside Famitsu. Since I don't live in Japan it's hard to know.

Is it surprising for MS to be No 1 selling console in UK. i thought they were No. 1 selling last year too..

They've usually sold the most in the UK but last year try sold the most globally. That probably will not happen this year. It most likely will be the PS3 this year.

What is the meaning to celebrate a "best selling of the year" run, based just on Jan-Oct?
Last year the 3DS was the best selling console in PAL territories during the holidays: are they afraid to lose the first place with Nov-Dec numbers?

Call of Duty is back with Activision Blizzard and developer Treyarch exploding at the top of our All Formats Chart with ‘Call of Duty: Black Ops II’.

With a Tuesday launch it becomes the biggest launch of 2012 and the 4th biggest of all time. It’s Xbox 360 taking the lion’s share with 60% of sales going to Microsoft’s console as opposed to 38% on Playstation 3. Last week’s No1 ‘Halo 4’ falls to No2 ahead of ‘Fifa 13’ which sits at No3. ‘Assassin’s Creed III drops down to No4 while another Activision Blizzard title ‘Skylanders Giants’ climbs to No5.
A strong boost in sales sees Ubisoft climb from No9 to No7 with ‘Just Dance 4’. The Sims are also back with ‘The Sims 3: Seasons’ making its debut at No9 ahead of ‘Football Manager 2013’ which slips down from No5 to No10. Outside the Top 10 and not to be forgotten is Black Op’s hand held cousin ‘Call of Duty: Black Ops Declassified’, which debuts at No16 and becomes the second biggest Vita launch of the year. Further down the chart Sony’s ‘Wonderbook’ appears at No25. In the battle of the cartoon racer Codemasters' ‘F1 Race Stars’ just takes the flag at No26 ahead of Sega’s ‘Sonic & All Stars Racing Transformed’ at No27.
