Gamesies Ep 4: "Indie Cred" | GAF-only Scribblenauts Wii U, Under Defeat HD Giveaways

Yooo, GAF. After a too long wait between episodes, the newest video in the Gamesies saga is now live:
Gamesies Episode 4 - "Indie Cred".

Watch it here (should be able to watch on your phone, too):
http://www.screwattack.com/shows/gamesies-show/gamesies-indie-cred-episode-4

In this episode, we're approached by Hollywood doucher Brett Ratner to make a "real" movie version of Indie Game: The Movie, Fez, and Super Meat Boy. The results are...mixed. We've got Paul Thomas Anderson X Fez, Wes Anderson X Meat Boy, and more. Bonus - see if you can spot this episode's typo!

Also, since it is the holiday season, we've got 2 awesome giveaways for this episode. First up, we've got a GAF-only giveaway for Scribblenauts Unlimited for the Wii U! This is one of the best games on the system now, and we're happy to give away a copy, and to GAF-only. To enter, just watch Episode 4, and let us know what you think of it by posting in this thread! I'll choose a winner using random.org, and announce it in this thread on 12/28.

We've also got another giveaway that's open to everyone - this one's for a copy of the newly-released (and Amazon exclusive) Under Defeat HD: Deluxe Edition for the PS3. The game's super rad. Just like us on Facebook (http://www.facebook.com/Gamesies) and share the Ep4 post to win Under Defeat. I'll use random.org to select a winner, who'll also be announced on 12/28. Both contests are open to everyone in the world, but note that these are US versions of the games.

Special thanks to GAF's own Agent Whiskers for doing the music - he worked hard on the soundtrack, and it sounds awesome. Also, special thanks to GAF's slasher_thrasher21 for submitting a video on this episode's favorite games section.

We've also started doing short videos called "DLC" that'll go up in between the main episodes. You can see our first one here:

Thanks GAF! You guys have been really supportive of the show in the past, and we all really appreciate it.

Brett Ratner...?

Oh. I see.

I dig the intro theme song, is that original?

Audio is rough in this 'pitch' sequence. You need to invest in a mic, don't record using the on-cam mic

I like the hyper reviews!

I feel like the 'skit' stuff fell flat, and that it would be better served with more game related things. The game reviews in under 140 characters was interesting and fun to hear, but about 7 minutes of the episode was devoted to the Brett Ratner thing.

What is the aim of this show?

Pretty entertaining. I like it. The Hyper reviews were funny and I like the added touch of all the scarves in the Wes Anderson part. I do have to say Resident Evil movies are kind of my guilty pleasure.

Yeah, the audio mixing was a bit off in one of the segments. Probably a bad mic I assume?

I just wonder though - did that guy really say his own game as his favourite indie game? :p

What is the aim of this show?

The aim is really just to be a comedy show. I haven't really seen a lot of gaming shows that have a plot, so we try and do a story that's gaming-related each episode. The big inspiration for the show was Consolevania. Thanks for watching the episode, appreciate it!

Yeah, we got a new mic, but unfortunately it was out of commission when we were filming. Future episodes will sound a-ok.

And he totally did say his own game.

Thanks for checking out the episode!

Good show - never listened before, but I'll listen again. Good luck on Screw Attack!

It's not a podcast :(

IG:TM:TM as
a piece of shit
? That's about right. :P

EDIT: Tagged so people aren't spoiled.

Just checked out the pilot. I like it. Fills the Co-op shaped hole my heart. Skits were funny. I feel like game discussions could use a third chair. Granted only saw the Wii U impressions so don't know if more people chime in later, but good job!

After really liking the first two episodes, I must have missed the Halloween episode somewhere along the line as I only noticed it after watching the DLC.

So far, I've liked every one. The reviews being kept for the Abridged stuff and Favorite _ Games sections means it doesn't get weighed down and each episode having a theme that is reflected in the skits makes every episode worthwhile.

If it was just "this month in games", it would be dull. As it is, it's an entertaining comedy show about games and there really isn't much like that around. Keep it up!

I hope to see the Plug Horn make a return in the future. Which one of you Brett Ratner bros has the amazing home cinema?

(PS. So glad Andy got his hair cut)

I just watched Episode 4 fellow GAFfers.

What I really liked was when the people were asked about what's their favorite game, the censored horn made me tickle. Really god stuff.

The end was also interesting regarding the money train, lol.

Regarding your reviews I liked them but I had to remove from Full Screen View for a moment (it was the blinking with the colors, my brain is not a fan of this due a condition I almost had two years ago). I actually had a good laugh out loud when I saw "Far Cry 3 NO MALARIA" because it remembered me a post I made in the Far Cry 2 VS Far Cry 3 thread.

I wish you good luck on the upcoming Episodes, I'll do my part and tune in for more and try to spread the word.

I also liked the Facebook Page and shared the Episode, anything else let me know. Thanks for reading.

I was gonna pretend like I watched it and post to get enter for the scribblenauts contest. But I felt guilty and watched it and enjoyed it lol.

Check out their other three episodes as well, they've all been good (though the first was the roughest in terms of presentation).

I wasn't really feeling the comedy bits, I think because I don't know any of those directors well enough to appreciate the jokes. The production level seemed high overall (except I noticed a typo when someone said "vanguard," the "n" in the captioning was missing) and I really liked the intro sequence with the arcade cabinet and retro music. The pacing was good and I'm glad you broke up the skit with the micro reviews and people talking about favorite indie game. God bless you for playing the air horn over the guy pimping his own game.

I really liked the hyper reviews and Wes Anderson segment, though I didn't know enough about film directors to appreciate the first (and whoever the last guy is).

The "Act Breaks" were the best bits! really creative. Car horn was hilarious.

OMG @ money train. got a big laugh outta me right at then end.

I think i'd like to see a show made up of favorite games sections. Those were definitely the most entertaining portions.

The last bit where the piece of shit came on the screen gave me a good laugh. Also really like your guys intro. The Phil fish segment was great. I'll keep an eye out for new episodes.

Also was Bret Ratner wearing 3d glasses? Lol

It's not a podcast :(
It is for me when it runs in the background while I work. :P I keep the window afloat, but I listen more than I watch.

EDIT: Who did the awesome chip tune version of Thriller in the Halloween episode?

I loved the idea the moment I heard about it but seeing it put all together, it came out even better than I imagined. It helped that I was never informed about the scarves which made it sweeter haha.

This was my first go at doing music for trailers and it was a pretty great learning experience. Thanks to Andy for giving me a shot at it. And thanks to everyone supporting this awesome show. Pass it along so one day Andy inadvertently gets cast in a Ratner biopic! I'd love to see a Gamesies DLC episode based around that premise lol.

For those interested, I'll post my tracks in this episode and where you could find them:

At 00:46 leading to the intro: Souls Adrift from A Method of Symmetry

At 03:44 piano interlude pre-hyper: A Journey Worth Taking from A Method of Symmetry

At 03:54 HYPER MODE: Digital Salvation New Soundcloud Single

At 06:51 Favorite Games: Wood Swords and Plastic Shields from A Method of Symmetry

All my songs and albums are free to download. If you'd like to support me, buy my album(s) at bandcamp for a buck or two and help support indie music. Thanks guys!

My favorite sections were the Hyper Reviews and the Favorite Games section. Skits weren't bad but I preferred those over them, sorry :(

Oh you guys are on Screw Attack now, congrats!

Haha Slasher Thrasher running out of words.

How did people send their videos to you?

Thanks, man! You can send me a YouTube link to your video submission on Facebook, Twitter, or as a PM on here. Just send me a PM if you'd like to put a video in the next ep.

Yeah, my thinking is, people can get better editorial content somewhere else, so we just try to focus on the funnier bits. I think the Fav Games part works really well, since it's short and gets devs/viewers involved.

And it's actually my apartment complex that has the home theater setup. They were cool enough to let us film for a while. Thanks for watching, appreciate it!

Musical excellence

Thanks again, man, you rocked it this episode. Download his music, GAF.

EDIT: Who did the awesome chip tune version of Thriller in the Halloween episode?
Jake "virt" Kaufman did the Thriller music, along with our title theme. He's a super cool guy. You can download the Thriller track (and his game-related work) on his website: http://biglionmusic.com/

(except I noticed a typo when someone said "vanguard," the "n" in the captioning was missing)
I'll spend 6 hours editing a bit, but will miss stupid typos like this. It's kind of become a running gag, since there's usually 1-2 typos per episode. Thanks for watching!

(PS. So glad Andy got his hair cut)

such a studmuffin now

How is the winner being chosen? Randomly from this thread? Best Feedback? Or some other criteria?

I'll choose someone using random.org for both Scribblenauts and Under Defeat. Scribblenauts will only be people that post in this thread - I'll update the OP to specify that.

cool, I didn't realize another episode was out.

Edit: The horn backfired and I ended up looking up that studio out of curiosity.

Liked the favorite game section, was nice to see that and with the amusing plug horn as well.

Though, would it really hurt to invest in a mic? That's one of my biggest pet peeves that make it look cheap. I feel like having a better mic would really up the production quality. Nice work though!

Probably goes without saying but make sure I'm not included in the giveaway.

It takes guts to make something like this and call someone else's films crap, I'll give you guys that.

I did like the plug horn.

Guys once again, a great episode. The horn was my favorite part for sure. Thanks for letting me be apart of it as well! Good luck to everyone on the contest!

I saw this video from when you had linked it in the "gaming Youtube" thread here on GAF. It was enjoyable but I still don't think you guys have hit your stride yet. Your best work, so far, is probably the Silent Hill bit from your Halloween episode.

Also, I like your hyper reviews. :D

Yeah, the format of the show was in flux for these first episodes, but I think we've got it down now. The next episode is going to step away from referencing too much stuff (the Anderson directors, Phil Fish's history, etc). Thanks for checking it out!
