Thinning/Bald GAF, why are you not choosing to do a Hair Transplant Operation?

The process is basically transplanting the hair follices from the back and side of your head (the part of your hair that never thins), and transplants them to the top.

The prices range regarding how much hair follicles you have to transplant (aka how bald you are)..the more bald you are, the higher the cost..That said, it's no higher from 3,000-5,000 in cost (cheaper if you do it in Mexico).

That's alot of money of course...but is also generally something that could be saved up in a few months if an eager desire is there.

It's practically pain free, and you don't have to be put asleep for the operation, just local anesthesia.

I know there are some gaffers that are basically like, fuck it..take the electric trimmer and shave that thinning bastard.

But lets be honest..unless you are a fucking model, most llikely than not your going to drop quite a few points from the attractive scale.

Case in point Eric Bana:

Are hair is our beauty, without hair we love a piece of ourselves. To me I find it most akin to wearing just a plain white t and sweat pants for the rest of your life..not being able to express "fashion" or "style" in any form whatsoever.

I look at Gaffers especially who are struggling with thinning hair/balding in there youth, when there supposed to be at there attractive peak and are having trouble with women as it already is...

So GAF..those who don't want to be bald, and enjoy having hair, and want to have a full plop of hair until there 90 and in diapers, what is stopping you from getting hair transplant surgery?

I plan to do this as soon as I can afford it. I'm just worried it will come out looking like crap. Or that it will look fine for a while and then more will fall out and I'll need another round of transplants.

I don't really give enough of a shit to do it.

I mean, I did when it was happening at age 17 but now at 22 I'm like... whatever.

Just make sure your going to a well renowned transplant surgeon, and not some hack. Read up on online reviews is always a good start.

Doesn't your donor region end up looking like shit? Also, I don't do it because it's fucking expensive. And while the transplanted hair would remain, the hair behind it would continue to recede and I wouldn't be able to stop it because neither minoxidil nor propecia work for me.

Don't you have to be age 25 or over to do this otherwise the follicles will fall out again a few weeks after the procedure?

does it work in reverse?

I.e. if you're already bald can you be "cured"
The way I understand it is curing it in the literal sense would only cease further hair loss and maybe re-thicken a bit. But the main promising breakthrough treatments in development are more like workarounds that force regrowth, and that's what someone who's already balding should be interested in.

As an odd shaped head person, I 100% agree with OP. Sorry but bald look is not for me. Yes SOME people look good at it, personally I love a set of hair and I like styling it. Most people choose baldness cause they're too lazy to spend 5 minutes to properly shape/comb it.

I'm not toooo bad yet and was waiting basically for it to get worse before I look into it and able to afford it.

But if your balding, don't they have to end up doing the whole head anyway cause no point doing just the middle when natural hair around it is gonna fall off later. I'm gonna actually look around see who does it close by and ask some questions. I got plenty of hair on my back that I shave regularly so supply isn't an issue at least.

question: if you're genetically predisposed for hair loss, wouldn't you start going bald again after getting a hair transplant?

Apparently not as the transplanted follicular hair units have the genetics of the hair from the back of your head , which aren't effected by male pattern baldness.

WTF, why would nature/god or whatever do this to us? Why is my back hair healthy, virile more abundant as time goes by, but my beautiful head keeps shedding.. :(

I'm not totally sure how the procedure goes down, but my hair is actively thinning. I would feel pretty silly if I did this and then the non-transplanted hair fell out anyway. But believe me I've thought about this, (being 21 and losing hair fucking sucks) but I'll probably wait until it's all gone or it's stopped coming out at least.

Don't give enough fucks, and it costs to much money.
I have an uncle who did a hair transplant. He had to sleep in a chair sitting up for a week, fuck that shit.

The one question that I have that is keeping me from seriously considering it, is isnt there a visible "scar" or mark from where they take the hair if you cut it close enough or shave your head?

I'd like to think I'm not vain. But it's more probable that I'm not concerned with going bald because I pull off a shaved head quite nicely.

is that eric bana shot for real? taking a model photo vs a talk show shot? come on man..
Really. Never mind his shaved head. His face looks like he's fresh off a week-long bender.

Why would I? If hair is the thing stopping you from looking good and being confident, you have bigger problems than being bald.

I have a ton of (thick) hair, and if my father (56) is any indication it won't go away soon. That being said, I've always thought simply shaving is what I'd do if I started balding. I don't think it looks bad and it has its own advantages.

Is it weird that i wish i was balding? As it is, i currently shave my head every 2-3 days.. My hair is super thick and just wish i had none because i think the bald look suits me best

Because I look so much better bald than with hair. Shaving my head was one of the best decisions I ever made.

If I could get a procedure done to ensure my hair never grows back again, I'd do so in a heartbeat.

OP aren't you 18 or something? Your post comes off as rather foolish. Insinuating how you can't believe why anyone would not get a hair transplant.

There's multiple things to consider. First and foremost:

1). It's expensive and not covered by insurance. The average hair transplant is about $12,000 (USD). Granted the number fluctuates a lot between practices, but chances are if you're paying anything below that - you're taking a major risk. Some more reputable surgeons will charge even higher amounts. Particularly in regards to how much hair (graphs) you're transplanting.

2). It doesn't always work. Given this is elective surgery - everyone reacts differently to the transplant. While advancements have made the procedures success rates fairly good - not everyone always gets the desired results they were dreaming about. Even after shelling out an enormous fee.

3). It's a time-sensitive decision. If you get a hair transplant done too early (say in your 20's), just to fix your hairline - there's a good chance you will need another one years later. The remaining hair on the top of your head is still affected by androgenic alopecia. Therefore, it's only a matter of time until it falls out too. Which means your hair is going to look fucking awful - even though you already had one transplant.

Most doctors recommend you wait until your 30's. Unless of course you're already mostly bald in your 20's due to MPB.

Edit: Personally I would not get one done for two reasons. First, my hair is only barely thinning - with a bit of frontal recession (in my mind 20's). Second, recent advancements in Japan have now been able to clone the actual hair follicle. Which makes any scarring virtually non-existent. I imagine sometime in the next 5-10 years it will become the standard for higher-end surgeons. Gradually coming down in price much like the current procedures have over time.

Again - your post comes off as really uninformed. Also the Eric Bana comparisons are mute because he's a handsome man regardless.

I don't really care, and I wouldn't be able to afford it.

I'm 22 and I had long hair all my life (since I was a toddler), and a few years ago the front started thinning. Probably from extensive hat and headphone wearing, or it could be genetic. Anyway, I took the plunge and buzzed my hair a couple of weeks ago. I couldn't be any happier, the fat-bald-bearded guy look suits me pretty well. I should of done it years ago.

I've been shaving my head more or less since I turned 30 some years back. Turns out that it increases the strength of erections. Look it up, it's true.

Going by my genes I'm probably going to be bald when I'm older. I was kinda worried when I as a teenager but fuck it, I'll just shake my head when it gets to a point where my hairline looks weird. I don't give a fuck anymore.

transplants suck for the following.

-leaves either a line or tons of dot scars on the back of your head making future shaving embarrassing
-you're hair will still thin out over time, leaving only the transplanted areas growing on top
-you need to take propecia and rogaine even after the transplant. this is to slow the non transplanted hair loss
-even after a transplant your hair is still on the thinner side and has that scraggly look

Just wait a few years. Isn't balding close to being cured?

theres stuff being worked on but nothing has shown great results and even when something is found theres years of testing before it can hit the market. you will always hear the "5 years away" thing from guys that havent learnt to deal with their loss yet. in reality i wouldnt expect to see anything in the next 10 years.

it's true but on the negative you go through a lot more underwear and pants

The one guy I knew said he can't shave his hair too short in back now because there are distinct lines from where it was removed and scarred. Said he'd never get it done again.

I'd just wait a few more years. Prob have a quick spray cure for it or something.
