Frozen Synapse Devs Mode 7 Games Unveil New Game - Frozen Endzone!

TRAILER

Mode 7 is taking the simultaneous turn-based scheme used in Synapse and putting it into a futuresport played by robots. And despite the different theme, they aim to retain Synapse’s strengths: replayability, randomly-generated terrain and player positions, and providing and visceral payoffs for players’ chesslike planning.

"...meant to feel like futuristic, highly-stylized, exaggerated NFL football." - Ian Hardingham.

Get. HYPE.

If there is some kind of managerial/leveling/upgrading system for the different units I think I will go crazy with this game. Won't be disappointed if it doesn't have one, but if it has... Sweet mother of god!

Ian especially is a huge NFL nut, so this all makes perfect sense. I thought the Endzone mode in FS was a terrific mode. Probably my favourite.

We basically need league mode from Blood Bowl in this. Make it happen Mode 7!

YESSSS

Frozen Synapse was one of the very best best strategy games of the generation, and this seems like a pretty crazy implementation of that.

I have no interest in American football, but this is something I can get behind.

Gotta get that soundtrack edition!

While I loved Frozen Synapse and would love to support these guys but I have absolutely zero interest in robot football.

We might need to preemptively get a crash cart in here when Toma's heart detonates into chunky morsels at this news.

It probably would if I didnt already know about it for a few months ;)

I'll get Fred down in reception to bring up a chaise lounge and we can bask in your Indie dukedom.

Happened when I was QA'ing for them. The lead dev sent a mail around with files for their upcoming project and accidentally cc'ed me.

I have tons of respect for Frozen Synapse. It just kind of flew over my head when I tried it. I should put some more time in with it.

This looks great too.

I would be interested in seeing if they could do it, but I doubt that they could fit something like that into the game if they were to follow the same concepts as Frozen Synapse.

Handegg? Seriously? Oh well it still looks great so day1.

They seem to be looking into something of the sort judging by the PC gamer piece linked on the OP. But they are not ready to disclose more details so they don't commit to features that won't get in the final game.

Key aspects of Endzone’s single-player campaign are still being decided on, like whether it will take the form of a league or playoff format, and what form robot upgrades will take. “I think it would be so easy for us to say ‘yes, you can have amazing pneumatic legs that buff your speed!’ says Paul Taylor, Mode 7′s joint managing director, writer, and composer. “Single-player development will mostly start after the multiplayer beta. We don’t want to start promising things that may not happen.” What is confirmed is that you’ll play as a team coach that’s “a defined character with a story.” Taylor: “NFL coaches have lots of personality and tend to be divisive figures so, in the single-player story, I think it will be interesting to play someone like that.”

Let the speculation begin.

If they DO go with stats, I reckon for balance purposes, you'd need to have it finely tuned via point distribution over a base roster.

I wouldn't mind just predetermined units - which was the beauty of FS - but somehow I think we're going to get some nitty-gritty customisation, given the inspiration.

Oh, I only saw the trailer and missed the link to the article.
Mmh, it looks like they are talking about single player only in there. I was just focused on multiplayer because that's all I played in Frozen Synapse (and not even for that long, I am ashamed to admit).
I look forward to see what they bring to the table however, I would love an upgrading dynamic on top of the simultaneous turns based system they have.

Oh wow.

I like Football. I like Mode 7. But I still don't know how I feel on this... But I guess that comes with a teaser/trailer; focus on the action.

Would like to see more on the mechanics, but I guess it's too soon for that.
