We need a mario kart quality kart racing game on PC. I hope this is good
Sonic Racing Transformed has been out for like 13 years at this point and CrossWorlds is similarly very good with much better online. I've put maybe like 15 hours into MKW and like 50+ hours into Sonic CrossWorlds.

Personally, id like to see this game have a Diddy Kong Racing style story mode. That's something that really hasn't been done in a long time.

Interesting.

They can make good gameplay. Great, even.

Their weak point is character design. Yooka's character roster is anything but cool.

Of course nothing can compete with Mario Kart sales-wise and content-wise, but good gameplay, good track design, and a robust single-player mode can make any competitor worth a shot. I tried the demo for the latest Sonic racer and didn't really care for it. It just feels wrong after a decade of MK.

A kart racer where the question isn't "Who are you playing?" but "What's your build?" is a good place to start.
I think they also need to make it where fighting for 12th place is almost as fun as fighting for 1st.

Always felt Kart Racers were bad at being entertaining for anyone outside the top 5. Though, that's probably a racing game issue on the whole.

I had a feeling it was going to be a kart racer. I loved the 2D Yooka. I was impressed by the remake of the 3D platformer Yooka but I still didn't love it. Definitely an improvement though. I'm optomistic for this kart racer.

One way to solve that might be team-based racing. Instead of 12 people fighting for themselves, have three teams of 4 competing for points. Suddenly, being in 12th place still matters because you can block opponents, protect teammates, set up item plays, or go kamikaze to help your team win. Couple that with the customizable kart idea, where players can build their karts for specific roles and playstyles, and you've got the foundation for a genuinely interesting Mario Kart competitor. Speed builds, support builds, defensive builds, crowd-control builds... suddenly everyone on the track has a purpose. Honestly, I have no idea why nobody has taken a serious shot at this yet.

Edit: To be fair, I already do this in Mario Kart World. If I find myself too far back to realistically win, I start hoarding red shells and cruising until the person who's been dominating the last few races comes into range. Then I unleash the full weight of my pettiness upon them. ( Edit 2: customizes races with my kids - too bad it wont work in online since lapping is practically nonexistent).
