Rock'n Roll Racing 3D (unofficial Remake) in Development!!!

It's one of those remakes/sequels I've ALWAYS dreamed of, and now some apparently crazy (but fuckin' awesome) indie game developers called YARD TEAM are trying to make it happen!!

They've started a fundraiser on Indiegogo & a "new" Trailer is out! (I didn't even know there was one in the first place)

NEW TRAILER: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=yiFOhqPEI6g

Fundraiser: http://www.indiegogo.com/projects/rock-n-roll-racing-3d

I've called them "crazy" because I just can't see them not getting in trouble over the unofficial use of the game's name, but I still hope this project rocks on/gets finished one day!

They are crazy. Making a game based off someone else's IP (and a Blizzard title at that) + trying to raise money from people to do it just begs a call from lawyers.

Morons. They could've easily just named it something else, change up the characters etc. and call it a spiritual successor, that way they probably wouldn't risk getting shut down by Blizzard.

Yeah, its like they're inviting them to come and slap them with a C&D.

Finally a Blizzard franchise getting some attention that isn't warcraft, starcraft or diablo.

Now where's The Lost Vikings and Blackthorne??

Someone go tweet this to jeff gerstmann.

Hah just yesterday I was reminiscing about this game with my brother, wasn't it originally developed by Blizzard or something? Probably way off, anyway I really enjoyed the original and the trailer looked pretty good, may nostalgia buy it

It looks surprisingly decent for a fan game but, er, they're really asking for money? They should expect a call from Activision pretty soon...

I like how it's a flexible funding campaign. How are they going to make the game and fulfill the rewards if they only get 1/4 of their goal?

Wow.

You start talking about an indiegogo campaign and wanting to port it to mobile devices and Blizzard is going to clamp down hard. It's not like Blizzard has forgotten about the IP, it's right there on their website.

Smart.

Use the original name to appeal to the nostalgic gamer, leverage the inevitable trademark cease and desist into additional press coverage, and change the name to whatever they originally had planned all along.

They can change the name to avoid a trademark issue, but they'd still have copyright problems, wouldn't they?

Whatever it is that needs to be done to get the game out, I'm fine with it.

Unlike "Rock'n Roll Racing 2: Red Asphalt" for PS1, or how that abomination is called, it really looks like a proper remake/sequel to Rock Rock Racing. Clearly the team does know what they are doing.

That music was fucking terrible I'm sorry. It's exactly the type of stuff I hate about new rock music.

whew, sorry just had to let that out . Looks like a solid game engine and I actually wonder if the naming thing is moreso to hint at blizzard that people want this game then anything else.

It was one of their first games and still holds up remarkably well so long as you play it on snes :P

Loved this damn game so much. Can you race from both perspectives is that what I'm seeing?

Yes, it looks like you can switch between 1st person and classical isometric view at any time!

True, I'm not a big fan of the "new" rock music either - I wish they used the original soundtrack -, but that's something that could be changed easily.
The more important thing is the rest, which looks amazingly faithful to the original! It also has multiplayer!

As a fan of the SNES Rock'n Roll Racing, what could you ask more for?

The original game was so much fun, and it introduced me to Paranoid!
Anyways, while I would lvoe a remake I don't think they can get away with this, and making a good R&R R is more than just art style and including rock music.

Yeah, I agree, but if you pay close attention to the new trailer, especially in the isometric parts, it's does look like they really nailed the orignals' physics and "feel".

I'm watching it right now with the original SNES soundtrack - MAAN, that's the best ting ever! :D

Rock 'N Roll Racing's version of Peter Gunn is so awesome.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7cLXo_YVDJU

"The stage is set, the green flag drops!"

"Viper is about to blow"

"Snake is dominating the race!"

"Tarquin lights him up!"

"Holy toledo!"

"Viper looks lost out there"

I can still hear Larry Huffman's voice while listening to that music track.

The game definitely looks ambitious, but unauthorized use of music tracks and unlicensed from Blizzard, there's red tape all over this project. It wouldn't be hard to just change some of the character art though and give it a new name.

Nothing was better than releasing scatter packs in a curve and watching your friend have no escape and fly completely off the track.

This is Activision, they could easily start with a lawsuit rather than do the whole cease and desist thing.

The trailer specifically says the game has the classic songs in it.

Nope, you can't trademark the idea of an isometric racing game.
True, but they are using more than just the name, they are also using the exact same cars and the exact same characters from the original game. They are going on the false assumption that since they aren't going to be charging money for the game that they aren't going to have legal problems.

They can change the name to avoid a trademark issue, but they'd still have copyright problems, wouldn't they?

If they changed the name, I'd imagine it would be like how Fifty Shades of Gray is a Twilight fanfic with the characters renamed but hasn't gotten sued for copyright infringement. Heck, most of Dota 2's characters are Warcraft III characters slightly altered and renamed and Blizzard hasn't filed a cease and desist against Valve yet.

It's GIF-time!

So fuckin' awesome! ^^

why would you have two cameras and get a boring-ass behind the car one

commit to what you're doing you bastards

You can switch between 1st and classic isometric view at any time, isn't that awesome?! The choice is yours! I think having the option of two different camera views is pretty cool!

If that's the music in the game, then Hell no. Classic soundtrack or no deal.

- classic soundtrack will still be there (in remastered form, but still instrumental only)
- you can choose your own soundtrack
