Sonic Lost World Wii U "60fps" footage

Because of all of the ones they haven't messed up recently?
But even when they were only producing garbage, people couldn't wait for another one. Is Sonic that likable a character? Is it nostalgia? Is it furries? What is so appealing about Sonic?

I'm referring mostly to the Wii Sonic games: Unleashed, Black (K?)night, and Sacred Rings.

Stating the game is 60fps is one thing but labeling some footage as 60fps when neither the video nor the description state that, is just pulling stuff out of your rear. "Visual tricks" notwithstanding.

My concern is when the Wisp is used, the game pops on the pad, but that would mean the game is duplicated on the bottom screen, thus they're sacrificing graphical power to show the game twice. Unless that's not so if it's the same image?

I know All Stars Racing Transformed has the title screen and menus on both screens and the resolution on the TV is lowered to match the pad, almost as if the pad is the source and is beamed to the TV.

They're having the second screen for the second player in2p mode, but for all we know you race in optimized courses to match the constraints. Someone help me out here. :(

For one thing RichIGN confirmed 60fps, second, you can't watch the video and not see that it's far smoother than Unleashed, Colors, and Gens which ran in 30fps (sans on PC), Unleashed did attempt 60 on PS3 though, but failed pretty badly.

I have to say, coming from a skeptic, I'm pretty much sold on Sonic Lost World. It's also the only true 3D platformer we're getting this fall since Mario 3D World looks more like a fairly restricted platformer. Put me down as excited.

Of the main series Sonic 06 was the only really extreme blunder. (And Shadow, but that one's a spinoff)

When Heroes came out it was considered to be an average-to-decent game, though it definitely pissed off some fans and can easily be marked as the decline of the series.

Secret Rings looked better by comparison to 06, which had just been released and was a step in the right direction. Unleashed's day stages were fantastic, the game was just marred by the padding. Black Knight was stupid as hell and bombed, I'm pretty sure, so it's not like Sonic fans don't know what's up.

tl;dr Sonic series has a pedigree of great games that lets people get excited about new ones, even when there have been a few stinkers.

It was the warmth of the tv show, you don't remember it because you were too young.

60fps confirmation is great and all, but that footage was not 60fps and therefore your thread title is misleading, is what I'm trying to say. I came here expecting gamersyde footage.

Hence the quotes and the explanation. GameXplain recorded it, I'll ask for the original file or where they're hosting the vid in 60fps.

Before you go "Youtube plays vids in 30fps only!", there's a visual trick when converting 60fps video to 30, every two frames blend to become one. And you see in the video is way too fluid to be 30, it feels like 60fps (yeah yeah Ninja Theory gag blah blah).
I highly doubt anyone would bother doing motion interpolation or even just a basic blend of two frames when they don't even have the direct source. This is just some blurry offscreen camera footage. What you're describing is certainly possible, and it's similar to the technique used in many current-gen games. Forza Horizon is a good example where they use motion blur to make the game feel more like it's running at 60fps even though it's actually 30fps. But I have no idea why you're bringing that up here, this video certainly isn't an example of that.

No no no YouTube does that automatically, you don't need to use a program. :)

I don't like how wisps are forced on the touch screen. It should have been like Colours where once you activate the wisp the control is with the analog stick and buttons. Just taping the screen once to activate it is fine. Forcing gimmicky controls for aiming the laser on the touch screen is not so fine.

I really think I like the parkour system. I think we're finally going to get a 3D Sonic game that lets us feel like we're playing this

Almost, if only the world below the Lost World stages was the playing field!

I got to play this today and wow. This is the real evolution of 3D Sonic. The "gear shift" movement feels great, and I feel like I'm in real control for the first time in a long, long while. Overall, Sonic moves more slowly even with the dash button pressed, but I no longer feared over-shooting my precision movement. The ledge grab is a tremendously welcome addition, and I feel like I can't go back to previous games without it. Butter smooth framerate and vibrant visuals, I just had a smile on my face the whole time.

Despite the alternate paths available, I'd still love for a flatter, more vast open approach to Sonic level design. These stages still feel like "tracks". Maybe there's more in store to be revealed, but I'd love to give this new control scheme a test run on more than tube shaped stages. Anyway, great work Sonic Team. Keep an eye on this one.

How can Sega fuck up Sonic as many times at it has and still have people foam at the mouth for a new installment? I don't get it.

Because Sonic Colors/Gens are considered good games...

...for the billionth fuckin' time.

(sigh so sick of this)

I don't know why Nintendo didn't make a bigger deal about this in the E3 Direct, they just shoved it in with a bunch of other unimpressive third party late ports. Depending on length and variety it could be the Wii U game to own this year, or at the very least the premiere Wii U platformer.

really liked what i played today. i had concerns over the running mechanic, but it worked out well. only thing that didn't pan out was the one wisp power i tried to activate. i had to flick the screen to get it to work and instead it redrew my path and then shot sonic off. thanks gamepad.

actually, it's my favorite game of e3 so far.

Game looks awesome

You think Mario looks restricted, but this is a true 3D platformer?

I feel like I'm on crazy pills. Not so much your post, but the general misconceptions of Mario 3D World.

Just about every offscreen vid i see fucks up the wisp part. Not sure if its worrying or just down to having to quickly learn a new mechanic
Glad to hear the running mechanics work great!

pretty sure it's a problem with the implementation. you can't just draw the path and click a button to okay it. you have to swipe the screen to send sonic off, and that's where it gets hairy. i think you're supposed to just swipe towards the crystal, but it doesn't always draw it accurately.

one of my most hyped games this year, between this & phoenix 5 fall should be awesome

not to pile on, but...it's been a long time since you played a sonic game, eh

Was Sonic's motion smooth? Do controls touch Mario's fluidity and smoothness?

What did you think about the difficulty?
