DriveClub’s PS Plus Edition Detailed

Just a quick one on this because there’s been a lot of people asking.

The PS Plus edition of DriveClub, revealed yesterday, will – according to Evolution – be the full version of the game in terms of features and mechanics.

However, it will launch with a cut-back number of tracks and cars.

This’ll mean that players will be immediately able to jump into the game, form clubs and compete online.

I asked whether that would mean more cars and tracks would appear as DLC to bulk up the game to the ‘full’ version but didn’t get an official comment.

The PS Plus version will be part of the Plus subscription.

The game handles great – it’s really smart and plays well despite the version on show being just 35% complete.

But more on that soon.

Will be interesting to see the split. Honestly thought the single player would be free and they put mutilplayer up at a discount or something.

Hopefully it'll be more like half the tracks and cars than one or two tracks and cars. I'd like this to be more than a glorified demo, but I already have Plus so either way it's all gravy. Sweet, sweet gravy.

Isn't this pretty much a glorified demo then?

I hope this doesn't become a trend for future PS+ offerings.

Alright, i'm cool with that.

By the way, is there any gameplay anywhere? I heard that they were showing gameplay on one of those PS4 screens in the theater before the Sony presser.

The second sentence contradicts the first.

May just buy retail then, deciding between this and knack as my second launch purchase after killzone. Still, I'm not a crazy huge racing fan so maybe it'll offer enough content that I'll be fine with the PS+ version. Damn I wish GT6 was getting a PS4 launch port otherwise I would just get that.

I wasn't really planning on buying it anyway, so this is ok for me. Do you think there will be an upgrade to complete option for cheaper than buying all the missing tracks/cars?

Sony is becoming more and more like M$ last gen. Pay for online, showcasing multiplats as exclusives and now the content quality in deteriorating

This is cool, but I really hope that this doesn't set the standard for PS4 PS Plus games - "full" versions with cut content. Lowers the value a bit for me.

I'm fine with that. It's free as part of the subscription. What I want to know if what to I have to do to get the full set of cars and tracks. I certainly hope I don't have to pay the full $60.

This works for me as someone who keeps forgetting he gets bored with racing games after a couple of days, but it diminishes the value of the game's addition to PS+ a bit.

But really, I talk about playing Drive Club and then I remember how Prologue was about all I've needed from GT for a long time. ;P

The second sentence contradicts the first.

No it doesn't. Features - replay, online play, etc. Mechanics - Tweaking car, etc

It lowers the amount of tracks, cars you get.

Disappointing. What does it mean for future PS+ titles?

Why are you inferring anything about future PS+ titles? This is the only time a console title has ever been free @ launch. Why would you expect it completely free?

I missed this - does it mean that if you have PS+ you get this version of Driveclub for free?

Yes.

Uh, why were people really expecting a full free title? :/ I think this is great, I had no interest to buy the game, but this way, I can get a proper experience and decide if I want to invest into a full product.

It's probably just because it's a launch day title and a full retail release. Think of it like a free GT Prologue.

This is great though either way, I'm sure I'll still be hooked on GT6 when PS4 launches but I want an easy way to give Driveclub a shot. Maybe I can squeeze it in and buy the full version while waiting for GT6 PS4. :P

Not at all. there is still lots of first party to reveal. New ips from santa monica, media molecule, guerilla 2nd team. Naughty dog's other team has something.

This makes sense. I was wondering how they were going to continue the PS+ program in the first year or so of the console's launch, since they obviously can't just give away brand new games as soon as they release. Hopefully as the platform matures and the library grows, we'll see a system more like what exists on PS3 now.

I am fine with extended demo. If it is good I will happily buy the full content.

Was kinda obvious they would not give away the complete game.

Of course they aren't gonna give you a full free launch game on launch lol. Makes sense. Maybe sometime by the end of next year it might be available fully for free.

So PS+ ver is like a F2P version?
Im still buying the retail copy though. This game oozes sexy for cars. That E3 trailer blew my mind. At 38% complete, color me freakin impressed!

It's a launch title game, of course they're not going to give the WHOLE thing away for free. Give it a few months for a backlog to grow and it should go back to normal.

Excuse me? Back any of this up please.

Yea, paying for online sucks but anything else. When did they say XV or KH3 were exclusive? What at their conference that was multiplat was said to be exclusive? Where is the drop in content quality?

Made no sense to give the full game away.

Exactly, I can't believe what I'm reading in this thread. Some of these people, jeez.

Well this is disappointing. I suppose I could live with it if the remaining content was made available for about half the price of retail.

I really hope this isn't the start of a trend on PS+.

What brand new game has been put on PS+? Really people, think about this for longer than 5 seconds.

I will go for the retail version. No chance that I will waste this game by playing a stripped down version.

Now I just want to see some ingame action thanks !
