IGN just posted an unboxing of the yet again redesigned 360. Add one more bonehead thing to the list. They changed the I/O connectors and there's apparently no optical out (unless IGN missed something).

Like many I still use optical for my receiver/headphones. Well, years later if your 360 Slim craps out and the current models are gone, you might be out optical. Thanks for removing equivalent replacement options. Even the One has optical out. What are you doing? No one asked for this, especially for the same price. Well done, Microsoft. Keep the train rolling.

The optical out is built into the cable base.

Edit : I can't remember if the slim has it on the motherboard

Whenever a system has 3 revisions, the 3rd one is normally the shit one.

Your only AV options are 3.5mm composite or HDMI.

They changed the cable. It looks like a thick 3.5mm plug now instead.

It's a 3.5mm jack in the back now. The kind you get on a crappy digital camera or camcorder.

It will only do composite.

Yeah, all the cables have changed: new round plug in the end of the power supply, new AV port which currently fits only the new red/white/yellow cable that's included in the box, and that's about it.

That said, I would not be too surprised if Microsoft releases a component cable for this version for an extra ten/twenty/30 bucks.

Well, the S still had the proprietary connector for AV. I did not know the new one got rid of that connector until I just saw the unboxing.

This really burns me up. I never plan to put away my 360 because it will become my Rock Band machine and for older fighters as well. I wasn't gonna get one of these things, but was hoping a new cheaper model would be on the shelves as some insurance for years to come should mine ever crap out. I'm not gonna buy a new receiver anytime soon if I can help it while my old trusty is still chugging along. I also run HDMI to the TV and the optical to a headset/receiver simultaneously for easy use of either depending on how I wanna play. That's not really gonna be possible should I ever need one of these things, unless I invest in an expensive new receiver, switches and crap. Most people won't care, but why remove it. Whatever. I enjoyed the 360, but I'm done w/ MS.

PS2 (in a way). There were two slims. The first, had an external power brick. The second, however, managed to have an internal power supply. If only it had built in flash memory it would have been perfect. Only the original PS2 had the ability to use a hard drive.

Well I think that same rumor also speculated no disc drive and that it connected to the Xbone for BC.

I'm getting the feeling that this board revision was supposed to be in the existing 360S shell and they rushed this shell design out the door. It's practically the same size.
