Konami has eased the release schedule for the always-crowded holiday season, bringing cheer to some and disappointment to others. The company announced at its summer press event that the releases of SLAI: Steel Lancer Arena International and Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit have been pushed up to September, while Beatmania has been delayed to 2006. All games were originally set for a November release.

The mech game SLAI is rated T for Teen, and will feature online mech battles when released for the PlayStation 2. Based on the upcoming claymation film of the same name, the E-rated action-adventure Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit will allow fans of the British duo to re-enact the film's events on the Xbox and PS2. The DJ game Beatmania will see a PS2-only release when it hits stores next year.

Looks pretty hott. The bemani nerd inside of me wants it to stay japan-only, but I know that increased popularity can only mean more releases and better songs in the future.

I can't wait! Any new CS IIDX is good IIDX :)

I've always wanted to play one of these games and was wondering why they never got released outside of Japan before...

1) They're hard. The difficulty curve is off the charts. I've been playing for 5+ years now and I still find some songs completely impossible to pull off (of course, there are exceptions, but this is most definitely the "rule"). This isn't to say that you can't get better, you can, but it's a long hard road that a lot of people give up on. You most certainly need dedication.

2) You basically need a proprietary controller to play. You can play with a dual shock, but it's sort of silly. So, add around $70 to the game cost. Not that it matters much to me, I've got all of the ASC's- but for the new gamer, that's a tough sell.

Actually the first Beatmania for PS1 was released in Europe. So along with Metroid's response, part of it is probably due to SCEA's anti 2D PS1 stance.

My arcade has 2 PPPs, PNM5, two DDRexs, ITG2, GF5, DM6, DDR Disney Rave, etc.
But not a goddamn Beatmania machine! ARGH.

You left out DMX (and KBM, rest in peace) ;)

In all seriousness, we've tried to convince Mike to get IIDX at IZ for, quite literally, years at this point- he just won't budge (or upgrade). Your best bet is going to E-Spot in Richmond, BC; They've got a luscious bemani scene with their machines in great shape.

Hates quality gaming
It is.

lesse here...

- Interface is looking different from 9th Style now, which is good. Colors seem sort of flat at this point, though.
- OK why'd they change the terminology from "Great" to "Perfect"? That seems odd
- interesting that they're keeping the IIDX 12 naming for the song categories (Normal/Hyper versus Light/7key)
- good thing they're calling it "beatmania IIDX" mode instead of that "to the X" mistranslation that IGN wrote about post-e3
- it's going to be weird to play old 5key songs with static IIDX backgrounds, but hey, it has s.d.z. and Battle Breaks so that's golden right there
- Konami changed the release date of the game a while (two weeks?) ago, but did so quietly. I wonder why they did a more formal announcement of it now.
