Week of October 14th to October 20th, 2013.

Fighting Games Weekly is the weekly discussion thread for all things fighting games. News, events, streams, videos, players, drama, everything fighting game related.

Don't know what to watch right now? Check the FGCPros Twitch Group or Jaxel's Stream Viewer. If you want to watch multiple streams at once, you can use Jaxel's customizable multiviewer as well.

New to FGC-GAF is the FGC-GAF Index which lists the fighting games GAFers plays as a neat reference with some rough statistics to boot. To add yourself to the index, quote this post and use the survey link below. Please remember to save/bookmark the "Edit your response" link so you can edit your responses if/when you buy a game already on the list or a new game that releases in the future.

Hell yeah!!! :D

I don't even know what this title means.

It means "The gringo(ChrisG) won everything(SSF4AE2012 and UMvC3 @ a tourney in mexico)". I thought about a diablo one too but I thought it was too marvel-centric and it didn't do justice to the very hype AE2012 grand finals.

alright everyone sit down.

I just caught up on the Melee top 8 singles at The Big House 3. I've been following competitive Smash since 2006, and I shit you not, this may have been the best Melee top 8 I've ever seen.

If you enjoyed Melee at Evo... that shit was NOTHING compared to this top 8 from today. Seriously. Absolute TOP level play, NEW tech, upsets, character diversity... this top 8 had it all.

Shit gets real at 7 hours and 54 minutes in, with Pew Pew U vs. Hax, two of the fastest players in the world, and playing two of the funnest characters to watch when being played aggressively, Marth and Captain Falcon. I shit you not, IT DOES NOT LET UP until the end of the tournament.

If you have the time, and you're interested in competitive Smash, I highly, highly recommend watching this archive. Melee at it's very best.

Damn I missed both Shadowloo and the Mexican tournament because I was hungover... Will have to look through the archives during the week.
Was the Mexican tourney interesting at all? Quienes fueron al torneo además de Chris G?

FChamp, Mike Ross and Angelic were there too, also Bala, who's still a KOF god.
You can find the archives here
The AE grand finals were amazing, a must watch

Fighting Games Weekly | No one watched Shadaloo showdown

There were 12K when Marvel was up, I'm sure more tuned in for AE despite the time zone difference being absolutely abysmal for people in the PST - EST band. That was more than than TFC at some points.

I saw Gringo in Title, whats happening here gentlemen? Its like a Batsignal for Mexicans.

Nothing title-worthy really happened until the tournament in Mexico, and I think we got desperate as it came time for the new thread.

I missed SS2013 :( I'm looking for archives but I can't find any... :'(

You can find the archives here:

http://www.twitch.tv/shadowloohq/profile/pastBroadcasts

Also, they're streaming now, it appears. Apparently, there are people still there and they're streaming some Marvel casuals now.

Clockwork is currently playing.

The only Smash I've ever really watched was some occasional Apex stuff and Evo, but Big House was incredible. The level of play was through the roof ... hopefully these guys get to run it back at Apex 2014.

Anyone see these interviews with Floe and Mike Ross eventhubs has done? They're seriously awful haha.

It's like 6 paragraphs describing known information, with 2-3 quotes sprinkled in. Eventhubs really need to get their shit together.

Dammit. Like I don't have enough things to do
seriously, anything I can throw tech at I want to do. Also, this will not be a "Panda will make the thread" thing, BET ON IT.

That said, do you want to see better reporting, news aggregation, or something else? There's a lot of ways to slice this particular problem, but not sure if just another blog is the solution here.

Let me know, I'm always willing to have this conversation, since it's a subject that seems to come up a lot.

To be transparent, I'm putting touches what was referred to as "real time reactions" in the trailer. We saw huge success with The Fall Classic poll and have had inquiries about utilizing it for other events. That work should be done within the next two weeks. Then events and videos are next on the work list.

But I'm always researching approaches for the phases beyond that, and priorities could change based on demand and feasibility of the project/idea.

All I want is a fast and objective way to read FGC news in a clean website. Just that. Anything more is a plus, IF it doesn't compromise the points I made before

Well, if it's on the site, then you're never going to see ads. I also take a lot of time to optimize the crap out of things so you get fast page loads (I did this with sf4a and will with OFL as well, things like separate DNS servers for static resources, etc, etc).

The issue is content. For the manner you're describing, we'd have to do original reporting. If aggregating, we could tell you what's on the other sites, and which articles are about the same thing, but wouldn't show the content on our own site. We've been very clear about where we feel things were being plagiarised (not in a direct way, but there are multiple forms of plagiarism).

That means FGC-GAF will have to step up:

  • enzo_gt - Day-to-day reporting, interviews
  • markman - Product reviews, tournament battle logs (since he's at every one anyways)
  • maximillian - Pre-release info
  • juicebox - Engine mechanics
  • Tizoc - Anime coverage
  • Dahbomb, God's Beard - Theory and analysis
  • Panda - Op-ed

Feel free to add to this list.

Speaking of arcade sticks, anybody ever try out those buttons with the octagonal bases from the gamer finger guys?

If they're really more sturdy and quieter than the sanwa buttons then I'm surprised I haven't heard of more people giving them a shot.

Feel free to add to this list.
I have experience writing articles and conducting interviews, but my only recording device is a Flip camera and I don't have access to a console any more. If I still had a PS3 and I had a capture card I would have made a bunch of tutorials and stuff. Otherwise I'm limited to gifs of off-screen footage.

I'm an artist by trade but not in graphic design so I can't help with making a website or anything.

"Horseress - Daily analyses on why SfxT is the best game ever"

Maybe Shouta and a few others can join me on this one

We'd take it. We know the SFxT crowd is small but strong.

As an aside, do you know Karastorm Saki (I ask because it seems everyone in the SFxT community knows each other)? We've known each other for a few years now, beating on each other when we played Vanilla and Super.
