I can't stand the sound of people chewing

Yes, I know we've had a couple of pet peeve threads where this has been a common peeve, but I think it deserves its own thread.

The most obvious are people who just slop away with their mouth open, talking and getting food all over and everything.
Like my brother-in-law.
From there, it's a continuum down along the line to people who don't talk, but chew with their mouth open; to people who open their mouths sometimes while they chew; to people who keep their mouth closed but still manage to chew loudly; etc.

And, of course, it can vary by food too - things like gum, soup (yeah, let's lump slurping into this discussion too), chips, etc. Various things are more annoying than others.

In general, though, I just hate the sound of people chewing - even when it's not as high on the obnoxious scale. Sometimes I just have to leave the room, put on some noise to drown it out, or something.

So, I know I'm not alone in this. So, let's get some hate out for loud chewing noises.
 
Me either. I can't stand to hear or see people eat. Every morning when my dad gets breakfast, it almost drives me crazy. He is the loudest eater I've ever seen. He makes the most disgusting noises.

My dad and sister does this, I can't stand it.

My dad does it very badly. He does it so loud that I can hear it from another room, and I can see bits of food falling out his mouth. My sister is the same, but her's isn't as bad. Hers is just loud. My sister knows it makes me mad, but she doesn't do anything about it. I remember telling her to turn the TV volume up one time because it was silent in the room and she was eating, she got mad at me. Yet continues chewing with her mouth open. My dad I can't do anything about. I couldn't tell him to not do that even if I wanted to, unless I wanted to get yelled at. At least me my brother and mom have the decency to eat with our mouths closed.

One of the main reasons I can't wait to get out of this place.
 
How about that current Wendy's commercial about the free ice cream with a meal. The guy at the end is eating with his mouth fully open so you can see everything.

It's disgusting. You learn to eat with you mouth closed when you're fucking 6. Who approved that?
 
My dad is like a magnet for bad manners. My dad didn't really chew gum to the point I don't remember it prior to moving out of the home to go to college but sometime after visiting home, I began to notice he chews gum with his mouth open and I have to be like "Eww! Stop doing that!" and he would apologize and my mother would weigh in and bust his chops.

About a couple of years ago I think it was, we were having a small birthday dinner at their place and my dad had a glass of sparkling cider and begin to swish it around his mouth like mouthwash before swallowing it. I nearly vomited at the dinner table. OH I WENT IN ON HIM AND BROUGHT THE FURY OF MY MOTHER WITH ME! I was thinking to myself, where the hell does a person pick up a bad habit like this from?!
 
It shouldn't even be called a pevee it's just plain nasty bad manners to eat loud as hell.

My old man slurps his goddamn soup but at the same time he makes drinking a beer look so good so I am conflicted with talking shit to him.

While it's true that it's bad manners, I would still consider it a peeve in that some people are bothered by it much more than other people.
And then there are the people responsible for the worst of it themselves
 
I know someone that gets annoyed by chewing and its the most annoying thing in the world. Literally any sound will drive her up a wall. It's one thing to be annoyed by something but it's another to literally rage about someone eating with their mouth closed. So what if food makes a noise? if you don't like it leave the room
 
My brother does this a lot. I've seen him eat dry cereal while his mouth is open the whole time. Every single crack is just amplified and sent out for the city to hear.
 
I'm in the same boat op. My head feels like it's going to explode every day because I live in Japan. FML

I never knew you could slurp and smack lips on nearly anything served to you till I started living in Japan 7 years ago. The worst part is when I must eat with my superiors... It completely ruins my appetite and mood.

Popcorn at movies is the worst.
 
Yup, same. Eating in DayZ makes me angry, the munching sound in that game is the absolute worst.
 
I can deal with crunching, but any wet eating noises drive me up a wall. Especially my own if I think someone can hear them.

I can't either. My family has always eaten dinner with the TV on. When I have to sit at a traditional family dinner where the only sounds are the chewing of food, clanking of silverware, and the occasional lip smack I just want to shove things in my ears. I can't even stand scenes like this in TV or movies.Why any family would insist on this form of torture is beyond me. No one ever talks at dinner anyway.

Louding chewing, smacking, gnashing, "mmmm-ing" or in general making noises while they eat just fucking bother me. Petty as fuck, indeed, but everyone's got one.
 
I hated those Carl's Jr. commercials where the people would eat messily and noisily.

Those ads actively turned me against that franchise.
 
People eating normally with their mouths closed doesn't really bother me. Some people are just loud as fuck when they're eating though, and I don't even know how it's possible. Those people really annoy me. The worst is when people are heaving the food into their mouth at great speed, chewing with their mouth open, and making those snorting breaths like a god damn pig as the food and saliva slaps around. *shudder*

How can you hear someone eat food unless they are eating something crispy like chips or something.. And then again, it'd have to be pretty damn quite around to hone in on a person chewing food
