Yup, this is their mysterious dungeon-crawler. Elminage Gothic is coming to Steam in late Summer.

Just announced on their blog.

When we first spoke about bringing JRPGs to Steam, one of the things we were excited about was that if JRPGs were successful for us, we might get the opportunity to bring over games that had never been released outside of Japan before. Well, I’m pleased to say that we’re now starting to make good on that opportunity.

That’s because later this year we’ll be bringing the classic Japanese dungeon crawler, Elminage Gothic, to PC. Elminage Gothic, originally known as Elminage Gothic: Ulm Zakir to Yami no Gishik, is the 4th entry in Starfish SD’s popular Elminage series of dungeon crawlers, originally released in Japan for PSP in 2012 and on 3DS in 2013.

Some of you might remember the original Elminage game, which we released in Europe last year on PSP. The game is currently available on PSN but the boxed release was a highly exclusive offering, with one of the smallest, if not the smallest, PSP print runs ever. Only 300 very special limited edition physical copies were ever manufactured!

For those of you who enjoyed it, I’m pleased to say that Elminage Gothic offers the same classic old school dungeon crawling experience but adds a darker, more gothic twist to the game’s theme and art style. It features multiple character classes, hundreds of stunningly designed monsters, creatures and demons, well over 80 hours of gameplay and it even goes right down to including the traditional “THAC0” system (which certainly takes me back!) If you’re like me, then I’m sure you’ll agree that there’s a definitely a simple pleasure in delving deep into dungeons searching for hidden treasures and slaying monsters! :)

Plus, if you’re a fan of the incredibly popular Wizardry series of dungeon crawlers, you’ll be pleased to hear that Elminage Gothic is very reminiscent of those Wizardry titles. It’s not surprising really, given that the development team at Starfish were also behind the Wizardry Empire games (the last of which, Wizardry Empire III: Haō no Keifu, released on PSP in Japan in 2007, just a year before the release of the first Elminage game on PS2).

“So when can I buy it?” I hear you ask, well, I don’t have details of pricing and release date just yet as the team are still working hard on the PC port but I hear that we’re aiming at a late summer release. The team are still in the early stages of the translation and conversion process so please bear in mind that the content of these screenshots may be subject to change over the coming weeks! :) We’re working closely with the team at Starfish SD to offer increased resolution of the original artwork as well as a host of additions for the Steam release including mouse and keyboard support and of course Steam Trading Cards. I’ll have more details for you in the coming weeks.

For now though, I suggest you ready your best dungeoneering gear and prepare to join Ghostlight in exploring the dungeons of Elminage Gothic later this year!

More on Elminage Gothic

In the far-off realm of Ishmag, King Jardin has ushered in an age of peace. At least that is, until foul and hideous creatures begin emerging from the deep, treacherous caves of Tsun-Kurn and dark rumours of a rising evil begin to creep across the peaceful lands. It is up to you to arm yourself and descend into the depths of Tsun-Kurn in an attempt to put an end to the ever growing darkness and save your kingdom.

I'll buy this for a high price, or a low one if the former is unavailable. I really like the art style in the OP.

Great to see something other than Agarest ported.

I will buy this.

I'm on the fence about the PSP version, I heard the translation was dreadful. Can someone convince me its still worth it?

The PSP one is a different game I think, Majo to Megami to Kamigami no Yubiwa. There are four elminage games on the PSP.

I still haven't got around to Majo to Megami to Kamigami no Yubiwa, there was a glut of rougelikes at the time and I got full up playing etrian4 and unchained blades. I do know ufo brought out a patch to fix the worst of the translation problems, but I don't think it was that great even afterwards.

I was hoping for the 3DS version to be localized, but I didn't expect it to release on PC. I'll have to buy it one day when it does release on Steam, thanks Ghostlight.

It's taken longer than I hoped but I did promise we would eventually move onto other things :)

I have Ulm Zakir to Yami no Gishiki for the PSP - is this identical to that, or an upgrade in some way?

We will be working to add higher res artwork but it will be largely the same game/

By the way this one is likely to come before Agarest 2

Can't say that I've heard of it before now, but it looks like an M&M or Wizardry style game, so you've got my attention.

day one. I've wanted to play the Eliminage games in English as far back as the PS2 game. Whenever it releases I'm there.

Why Gothic? Heard from multiple people Gothic is the worst in the series?

Really? Got any info?

All I've found is that Gothic is apparently more brutal than previous games(limited maps, characters age on failed resurrections, etc)

I've never been an "Iron man" when it comes to Wizardry-likes. Anytime the situation turns sour in Elminage PSP I immediately reset/reload. So much re-rolling for decent levelup bonuses.....

Hell yes!!!!!

I love the PSP game. Bring all the dungeon crawlers to the west!!!!

Loving the monster art too

I will buy this.

They patched it with fixes. It's MUCH better.
Great game. Watch some of Dorarnae's videos on youtube.

We're working with Starfish on this one and I think it was decided to bring their most recent one here first.

Having said that assuming all goes well we would be interested in going back to the others.

This sounds great, and the artwork is really fucking good. Seriously, what's up with the horse with a hook for a head?!

Elminage seems really underrated as far as Japanese Wizardry-likes go.

I love the monster artwork in this game. The combination of mythic/traditional style monsters and some really freaky ones is really good. It was tricky just narrowing down the ones I wanted to show in this blog.

Great! For some reason I didn't think this might be the game they were teasing. I still have to properly play the PSP game, but I'm looking forward to this. Will buy this day 1. Who would have thought something good can come out of Agarest?

So it's just the PSP version with no additions?

Not quite.
There have been five Elminage games along with a handful of remixes/re-releases.
The Elminage we received in US on PSP is Elminage Original. It's a remake of the first game with additions/fixes from its sequels.

Elminage Gothic is the fourth entry in the series. It came out the same year as Elminage Original in the US.

.
Can't wait to dig into this game.

He's a pretty swell guy in my books anyway.
Oh nice. I thought it would've been another of Complie Heart's fanservice baiting games.

I'll pick this up at some point.

Yeah, that's what I heard. I know an Elminage fan who says Gothic is the best in the series.

Thank god for Ghostlight, the font and everything look worlds better than UFO's hack efforts.
