What does GAF feel about chewing gum?

I've picked up this habit from my dad where I regularly chew sugarless gum (normal mint flavour) after eating a meal (if I can't brush my teeth anytime soon).

It really gets the stuck particles out, it apparently helps keep your teeth healthy (if sugarless) and helps keep your jawline defined with the regular chewing exercise.

The only downside is that I get thirsty way more often now and the mintiness burns my throat like hell when I drink water after :/ but it's worth it.

I made what I feel to be the ultimate conclusion to chewing gum: Every brand sucks.

There's no such thing as good gum... This was after a solid year of trying pretty much everything available to me.

Gum is needed in every place.

Some people have really bad breath for some reason when they talk to me and gum somewhat saves the situation... I offer them some, and they take the hint.

man i still remember when gum pulled out a filling and shit went CRUNCH then there was me thinking hmm this gum isnt supposed to have flavor crystals in it. :D

good times.

got it fixed later in the week.

I'll always have a packet spare in my coat for those moments where I'm on my way to an interview etc. and decided for some reason that cheese & onion crisps were a good idea to eat on the train there.

Other than that, I just brush twice a day and give my teeth an extra brush before I go out with friends/family. 27 years old now and never had a filling or a tooth removed.

I tend to chew gum after meals or in the afternoon when I get a bit peckish. It keeps my breath nice and fresh. Sugar free all the way and either some Stride BerryMelon or one of their Sourpatch Kids varieties.

Gum is truly vile. I don't want to see you, fucking open mouth masticating, you slob. Its vile. Brushing and using mouthwash is infinitely more helpful.

i had to stop chewing gum when i decided to lose weight. i think i chewed more gum than the people who smoked 3 packs of cigs a day lol.

I love gum but I have noticed that it completely kills my appetite, so I try to avoid it if im supposed to be eating something soon.

Gum is so high school. I never liked chewing gum. I always spit it out within a few minutes because I get tired of chewing.

I chew gum at various points throughout the day. Usually some mix of Trident, Extra, and Stride.

While I have a toothbrush and toothpaste at work, I don't always use them. After breakfast, snack, and/or lunch I usually elect to just chew a piece of gum or two to manage the food particles and I brush when I'm at home instead. But there are times when gum doesn't seem like enough.

I'm big into gum though. Sugarless. I haven't chewed sugar gum since I was a kid. It's funny because, for the most part, sugar chewing gum is pointless. Sugared Double Mint taste about the exact same as sugarless Extra Smooth Mint.

I buy in packs of 3, but I wait for sales. Sometimes regular supermarkes will have 2/$5 deals on 3 packs of the aforementioned Trident, Extra, Stride, and others and I'll usually bite at that price if I'm already there for other food shopping and I'm low on gum. That said, stores like Walmart and Target have even better prices, often going to 2/$4 which is a rather good deal. Depending on the gum, that's 42-54 pieces for $2. Can't complain there.

Mostly the minty kinds are what I go for. Not really into the berry ones or fruit flavors in general. There are exceptions. 5 Gum's Apple flavor, Extra's Lemon flavor, and Stride''s Sour Patch Kids Lime flavor are all quite nice.

You do realize you're not supposed to swallow it right?

Try sugarless gum, it's guilt-free :P

If I recall chewing gum actually tricks your body into thinking your eating and since nothing comes of it you get hungry easier. So it would make sense if you are trying to lose wieght you wouldn't torture yourself into getting hungry easier when you know all you have to look forward to is cardboard as a meal, lol.

isn't that what all the gums are now? sugar free? most of the time it's about chewing to the point where the flavor is out then I spit and chew another one. surely the stuff i'm ingesting is bad at some point ;P

Isn't this sort of thing bad for your stomach too because your stomach produces acid but doesn't get any food for it?

Not a fan.

Can't chew it on account of my shitty teeth; can't stand cleaning up after it at work.

I imagine it's worse for your endocrine system, since your pancreas might be generating insulin for sugar that's never received.

I love Stride gum. I don't think they're making them the way the used to though. From the beginning, they weren't kidding that the flavor lasted even after a couple of hours. It was fainter, but you could taste it. It's still my favorite brand.

ABC - Always Be Chewing

I usually go for the strongest Orbit I can find. I hate how hungry it makes me feel though.

Also fuck every gum that isn't menthol/spearmint whatever. Get your berry or fruity shit out of here. Useless drivel for children. I need a gum that makes me feel like I fell face first into Frosty's crotch.

*spits chewing gum immediatly*

I don't like gum. It makes me hungry.

Anybody else get freaked out the first time you chewed gum for so long that it liquified?

“Of all the consumer products, chewing gum is perhaps the most ridiculous: it literally has no nourishment – you just chew it to give yourself something to do with your stupid idiot Western mouth.

Half the world is starving, and the other’s going, ‘I don’t actually need any nutrition, but it would be good to masticate, just to keep my mind off things.”

It also helps boost your concentration.

Anyone got a piece they can give me?
