(LTTP) Wii U: I'm in LOVE

Wow....

I've been poking fun at the Wii U ever since launch. A terrible name for a console (and to me, arguably 1 of the reasons it's doing poorly), virtually no 3rd party support, and a stupid controller.

But lately, my 4 year old Daughter has been playing a lot of Dolphin on the PC with my Dual Shock 4, and Super Mario Sunshine. She LOVES IT. So I thought I could capitalize on this, and get her a Wii U. I think Nintendo deserves the support as well. I picked up 3D World, MK8, and ZombiU.

THIS THING IS INCREDIBLE.

The off-TV play is what I wanted Remote Play on PS4 to be, but simply has too much input lag. The Wii U touch pad has LITERALLY NO INPUT LAG. AND is 60 FPS as well. The screen is a bit of a low res, but not bad enough for it to be an issue. I've been playing MK8 perhaps TOO MUCH, and this is the first time I've had this much fun with a Nintendo since Gamecube (because the Wii IMO was a piece of crap.).

Forgive me, Nintendo-GAF. I regret not buying one earlier....

Hey Nintendo! Just give me that Zelda, Mario 64 successor, and METROID PRIME 4, and I'll love you forever.

Yeah, the off-TV play is a major reason why I am still playing on the console. Can't wait for all the Fall exclusive releases.

Welcome to the party pal!

Asides from your crazy list of desirables (MK8 is awesome by the way and has a couple of my fav courses from MK64) you got your eye on anything?

Wonderful 101 is a crazy awesome game if you like PlatinumGames other stuff.

The sad thing is, that almost every gaffer i've read impressions of, even the most sceptic, turned out to love the thing. While so many people had been waiting for the price to drop, because surely, it wouldn't be supported by 3rd parties for long (due to lacking userbase). Self fulfilling prophecies ftw i guess.

I love mine.

PS: Get Pikmin 3 & Wonderful 101

Eh it's actually pretty noticeable in timing sensitive games like Monster Hunter.

Hmmm... there have been video's proving the gamepad to actually be faster than the TV... so maybe the off-tv implementation in MH is just broken?

Just give me that Zelda,

Soon.

"I thought this thing I never tried was shit until I tried it. Now I love it!"

This goes for everything, not just games.

I totally forgive you and understand XD. It's really a great machine that doesn't seem to get enough love, but the optimist in me hopes that changes as much as possible in the future.

BTW, support Platinum and buy Bayo when it comes out. :)

The system is wonderful, and has some pretty damn good games on it. So far has been a great complement to my usual PC gaming tendencies as well.

Welcome aboard, mate.

Good job getting ZombiU.

Now go get yourself into Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate, it'll tide you over until Nintendo's big hitters arrive.

I am this close to buying a Wii U for myself. I just wish we had more concrete information about the FEXSMT crossover game. It's one of the biggest reasons I want to get this console (along with first party games).

Yeah, my girlfriend just got me one a week ago for an anniversary gift. I too have been poking fun at Wii U since launch. I still hate that it feels underpowered but for Nintendo games that really doesn't matter. I have only been playing Mario 3d World so far but I have wonderful 101 arriving Monday. So far I really like the console but I still prefer the ps4.

"Waiting until they remove the gamepad"

Waiting for a price cut
just like I do with every system

But seriously, I need this console.
Tropical Freeze is the direct sequel to my fav 2d platformer ever, 3DWorld (+ Toad) and NSMBU (+ NSLU) are games I need to play, plus Sonic(s) even though they don't seem to be too hot. Oh and a new DSlike Mario vs Donkey Kong was the last system seller I needed to seal my future Wii U purchase.(though I'd have rather got this on 3DS) Plus, The Wonderful 101 is the second most appealing new IP of this generation after Sunset Overdrive. I'm not as interested in it as I'm in SO, but it definitely got my attention and I need to try it.

Plus other games I'm kinda interested in like both Zeldas, Bayonetta and Devil's Third if it turns out to be any good, and Yoshi.

Love my Wii U. I actually have no desire to get a PS4 or Xbox One atm, and 360 was my main console last gen. Summer hasn't really had anything, but this fall/winter will be fantastic for the console and I can't wait.

It has so little lag that is actually faster than most TVs. There was a video comparing the lag of the Pad vs the TV on a demo stand a year ago and it was like 6ms of difference iirc

The most fun you'll have anytime soon on a console. PS4 and Xbone have a long way to go. If Nintendo can get keep this momentum of releasing nothing but classics for a few years going, we'll look back on the WiiU as the most underrated system of all time, beating the Dreamcast.

As of now, the library is simply too barren, but as I said, give it a few more years of solid releases and it'll cement itself as a gem of a system.

For now you should presume it will never see the light of day. But the list of top notch games already out and on the horizon is really impressive.

Pikmin 3, ZombiU, Lego City Undercover, Earthbound, Mario Kart 8, Nintendoland, Wonderful 101, New Super Mario Bros U, New Super Luigi U, Zelda Wind Waker HD, Super Mario 3D World, Wii Sports Club, Monster Hunter 3U, Rayman Legends, Fucking Donkey Kong, Deus Ex: Human Revolution DC, Fatal Frame U, Bayonetta (1+)2, Captain Toad, Smash Bros, Zelda U, Xenoblade Chronicles X, Yoshi's Wooly World, Kirby & Rainbow Curse, Splatoon, Devil's Third, Starfox U, FAST racing Neo

How many Mario 64 successors does Nintendo have to make before people stop asking for the real Mario 64 successor?

I couldn't count the Galaxy games, mainly because I hate Wii, and for what I did play of G2, it was just different... I cant put my finger on it.

Just out of curiosity, what was it about the Wii you didn't like? Because there is a huge back catalogue of classics open to you now. Many of which support conventional control if it was the Wii Remote you weren't keen on. :P

For some reason I completely forgot about those

Starfox U...hnnng

Smash, MK and Splatoon will be multiplayer beasts. And luckily I already have two Wii controllers

Totally agreed.

I just played through Saints Row 4 and every few minutes I looked at the Wii U gamepad and wanted the map on it. And touch to set waypoints. etc. :/

The 480p resolution. I couldn't ever enjoy games because they were too blurry for me. Lots of headaches and mild nausea. I need AT LEAST 720 - 1080, and 720 is still stretching it. The last game I played was Twilight Princess, and I stopped halfway through because I couldn't take it anymore.

I had to miss out on Metroid Prime 3 :(((

Wii U does indeed rock. You can really see the difference in quality of its off TV play vs the Vita. It's the kind of system people can't fully appreciate without owning it imo.

I spent the better part of 2013 trying to convince people I was actually having a lot of fun with the Wii U, more than I'd had with any other console in some time. The inevitable results were jokes, people hyping up PS4, or just being ignored.

It's been nice to see more positivity around Wii U since the launch of PS4 and X1. There's a nice library of games on the system and it will continue to grow throughout 2014 and 2015.

Don't overlook Nintendo Land and Lego City Undercover. Both are excellent games, well worth the cost.

OP, it's fair to say that you bought a Wii U for yourself. It's a good console. No need to be ashamed ;)

TOTALLY NOT TRUE.
true...

But watching my 4 yr old problem solve in 3D world is blowing my mind. Video Games really are great for kids learning, motor skills, etc. She's a 50cc champ!
