The prelude to the all-important Q4 season begins in earnest this week with the ‘FIFA 15’ onslaught.

EA’s latest FIFA is the 21st in the main series, dating back to 1993 with FIFA International Soccer on Sega’s Megadrive (list excludes World Cup/Street/Management spinoffs). ‘FIFA 15’ accounts for 80% of all entertainment software units this week and a whopping 87% of revenue. Unlike last year, ‘FIFA 15’ debuts on 8 formats simulataneously - there are no more PS2/PSP versions this year and the later PS4/XO releases from ‘FIFA 14’ now arrive alongside all other versions.

Consequently, GfK Chart-Track total UK market estimates are that ‘FIFA 15’ is +15% units / +23% revenue over ‘FIFA 14’ (weeks 39 compared). If you align all the week 1 sales, so adding in week47/2013 PS4/XO sales (both Gen 8 versions launched in that week) then ‘FIFA 15’ is actually around the same in units and +6% in revenue. Finally, ‘FIFA 15’ Gen 8 versions (PS4/XO) account for 54% of sales units, with Gen 7 (360/PS3) holding a still considerable 45%. There were a few other new releases this week but the only one to make the Top 40 is Nintendo’s 3DS RPG adventure ‘Fantasy Life’ at No8 which is developed by Level 5, best known for the Professor Layton series.

Hyrule Warriors dropped from #04 to #15... anyone know the level of sales we're talking of to be #15 in the charts? I'm assuming four digit sales numbers.

Hmm the trend charts make it sound like Wasteland 2 will chart here in Germany. That's great.

Looking at the games on top the sales must be quite low, yeah.

Just about sneaked in there, well done Fantasy Life. Hyrule Warriors also didn't drop completely out of the charts, which is good.

PS4 versions of casual games like Fifa are now the highest charting, incredible considering it has an install base of +1m vs +8m of 360.

Two copies sold? That's not a bomb guys, stop trolling!!!

This also means FIFA 14 One (launch week) + PS4 (the week before the launch) sold 125,000 in Week 47

From the old thread....

Thought the gap would have been closer with PS4 and XBone on FIFA with the advertising and anecdotal evidence but that gap is real and not closing.

Sony just need to match MS with an unofficial CoD bundle and any immediate "threat" of MS gaining momentum there will have been cancelled.

I do now wonder though what impact Halo will have on XBone hardware with that Destiny/Halo combo a few weeks ago. Surely a fair few will have taken advantage of that, lessening the effect of sales in November when the game releases.

Dependant on hardware sales this last week, any threat might of already been negated.

Just like madden in the US, there is a large correlation between players of FIFA and Players of COD.

With thousands of destiny players soon desperate for a replacement, plus the FIFA audience looking foe their shooter fix...

I still think COD will have a higher attach rate on XB1, but I think its chance at "turning the tide" is all but gone. Sunset overdrive is not going to be a system seller and im pretty sure its only going to be average critically. MCC has already done the bulk of its system selling.

Sony might be seeming to lie back on its laurels on here, but after seeing how they went all out at Eurogamer, easily eclipsing Microsofts presence there, im pretty much sure they are not going to give them an inch.

Furthermore, I honestly believe after this hoilday season is over, this generation will be decided.

Surprise to see the 360 version of FIFA on 2nd position.
I guess Microsoft has an exclusive promotion deal with EA this time and it performed worse than their 8 year old console. Even more amazing that PS4 with it's install base got the first position. So UK is officially Sonyland again.

On tier 2 launch countries FIFA is being heavily advertised as an Xbone game. If Microsoft were banking on this to somewhat offset the almost one year launch delay then they completely failed...

Weren't X1 bundles also much better value?

MS just can't catch a break.

FIFA has been pretty synonymous with PlayStation for the past decade, at least in the UK (and probably other countries in Europe). I think it's more of a culture thing than anything else, something Microsoft doesn't seem to understand as they muscle in on the action year after year. (That's not to say they haven't nibbled away at the FIFA/PS attachment).

Edit, look at the breakup of sales on home platforms:
PS: 451670
XB: 499720

Looks like FIFA's new home is slowly becoming Xbox.

3DS FIFA 15 not even charting. I'm now convinced that nobody over the age of 7 owns a 3DS. I mean, really, how do you have a platform that can't shift FIFA?!

I think sales on last gen will be lower this time around (Edit: for clarity, I mean lower than last year, not necessarily lower than next-gen), but I also think last gen will have longer legs for the title.

But that's just guesswork so don't quote me on it.

Nooo Pokemon Black and White are gone. Did Argos run out of copies? Or did Fifa exert its pressure.

Kinda surprised the 3DS version of FIFA didn't even chart. Even the Wii one did!
It didn't chart in the 3DS top 5 either. Top 5 you say, don't you mean top 10? Week ending 6 September 2014 was the last time the 3DS had a top 10.

Oh and SmokyDave will be happy to hear the Vita and even the PSP still have a top 10.

MSFT has no choice but to keep throwing more money at all the crazy bundles to make sure XBone is a respectable #2 rather than a distant #2.

3DS owners are gamers, not dirty casuals who pick up any old reskinned pos.

Same here in Germany, every Fifa ad ends with Xbox.

Retailers make their own ads and promote the PS4 + Fifa bundle though.

It really hasn't. Fifa has been dominant on 360 for the entire last generation in the UK.
