Arianna is the princess of the Duke of Caledonia, who is headed to an unknown ruins called the “Ginnunga,” where a certain ceremony takes place once every hundred years.

After the protagonist stepped foot into Ginnunga, a certain incident occurred. His eyes turned red and his limbs became solid as a rock, as he completely transformed out of nowhere… exactly what could’ve made him this way?

Etrian Odyssey 2 Untold: The Knight of Fafnir continues along the same lines of Etrian Odyssey Untold: The Millennium Girl with being a story driven dungeon crawler with pre-set characters the player will control during the adventure. At the same time there is also the "Classic" mode for those who just want dungeon crawling action.

R3x095M.png

  • Reworked Grimoire system
  • Classic Mode for those who want less talk and more dungeon crawling.
  • New cooking system for self buffs or money making.
  • Town planning, help build up your main hub town!
  • Eight save slots
  • Double the voice acting than the previous Untold title.

#1:
Q: Is this getting localized?
A: While nothing official has been announced yet, seeing how all the other games have been localized there is no reason to believe this one will not be localized also.

#2:
Q: I'm new to the Etrian Odyssey series, would I still enjoy the game?
A: Sure! As with all the other games, they have no connection to each other story wise, therefore you can jump in with any of the titles and enjoy the dungeon crawling!

#3:
Q: Should I import this game?
A: Unfortunately 3DS games are region locked, so unless you have a Japanese 3DS / New 3DS would not suggest trying to import. *Do not remember if it works on Asia region 3DSes.

#4:
Q: How hard are these games?
A: It depends if you are used to dungeon crawlers or not? If you are unfamiliar with the genre will take a little getting used to, but since its fairly straight forward turn based combat should not be an issue or stress you out at all! There are strong monsters that wander the dungeons and are not meant to be fought after you level a bit, so initially avoiding them is the best plan as a new player.

#5:
Q: I've hear the term "F.O.E." a lot? What does that mean?
A: Formido Oppugnatura Exsequens - Basically a monster that will stomp you if you try to fight it upon first contact. They will be represented on the map by a visible graphic which usually appears like a giant fireball. It changes color also depending if it is alerted to your presence. Defeating them net good exp and rare items. They will respawn after a set amount of time has passed if defeated.

If you still do not understand watch this ever helpful and educational video.

#6:
Q: If I do not like the story mode can I just make my own party?
A: Sure can if you play the classic mode. Which turns the game into its original form, little to no story and able to create your own party from various classes.

#7:
Q: Is there any place I can go to get info on the other titles in the series?
A: Yep here on the NeoGAF forums there is an Etrian Odyssey Community Thread made by omlet, Dandy Crocodile and spiritfox. Feel free to drop by there lots of dedicated fans willing to help out those who are curious about the series!

Thanks goes out to Atlus for the resources used to make up the graphics in this OT.
Thanks to the dafont website for having an awesome selection of fonts to download and use, plus to Mr Fisk for the Broken Planewing font.
Thanks to omlet for some of the features info, taken from his Etrian Odyssey Community Thread.
Thanks to Siliconera for the info in the quoted section of the summary.
*Have no official affiliation to Atlus, dafont.com or Siliconera

*Will update this with more info as it comes along after the game is released. Was not able to fit in all content due to time issues.

*Will also ask a mod to fix the title later, cant think of anything witty at the moment. So will just go with an old fan classic.

Nice work. EO2 was really what got me into the series several years ago so I'm pretty excited for this one but I'm gonna be waiting for NA version since I don't have a JP 3DS.

Thanks!

I wonder when Atlus is going to announce the Western version. Or more like when do they usually announce stuff for the West?

Im still let down that the gunner girl with the jack frost emblem on her hat was not the main character. D: Then again since in Untold we had a gunner that pretty much sealed the fact it never was going to happen (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻ I mean she even had her own manga lol

I would instantly import this if I had a JP 3DS.. Finally beat EOU and now playing Persona Q, dungeon crawlers may have just become my favorite genre.
Now to wait for that localization announcement..

Nice looking thread. I'm really digging the female Highlander design, she reminds me of a sheep and I think it is adorable. I'm looking forward to seeing the general impression from importers. I hope Atlus announces a localisation soon.

Not like I'm short on EO games to play. I've got play classic/expert on Untold, Persona Q and (when it arrives) Etrian Odyssey III.

She will be my MC in my classic mode game, along with Hexer-chan.

I still have my original Medic and Knight figures. Best ever. Though there have been other nicer looking ones that came out. :D Plan on adding them to the party when I do a classic playthough.

Thanks! Yeah the design of the Highlanders do look really good. Am curious to see what the 2nd round of DLC will be. Since the first batch seems pretty good so far!

Glad to hear that there is another convert to the genre!

Wait, eight save slots? Best EO game ever!

Yeah Im quite surprised by that also.

Ah, Etrian Odyssey... Class A gameplay tied to horrendous character design.

I'd post that futurama GAF if I had it handy.

Anyways, I'm hyped for the euro release, whenever it happens.

Man that OST rip needs to happen soon. I need to hear the orchestrated Cherry Tree Bridge to continue living. ~_~

Also localization when, Atlus. There's about to be two more Etrian games on your plate so you better hurry!

I can't wait to get more info about this game, Classic mode looks amazing this time around.

Tentative team:

Princess / Highlander / (not sure about this spot, maybe Protector)
Gunner / Hexer

I love the character design so much that I even bought the artbooks which are AMAZING, so for me the series is amazing in every aspect.

Yuji Himukai forever!

Survivalist had good utility in 2, even if they were nerfed hard compared to the first game, and Untold didn't really make them shine again. 1st turn was still pretty useful, and their speed meant they were well suited as item users. Now, with Troubadours getting Quick Step in Untold, I wonder if they'll get some changes, or if Atlus will leave them as the party's gatherer.

Really curious to see how the class changes go. Prince(ss) got some tweaks to stand out from the Troubadour, while the War Magus got completely revamped.

I'll break the game again with Revenge and Dominate.
Maybe you can still, but Dominate and Riot Gun both got nerfed. They're Force Break skills now, so only one use per exploration, and they don't have a 100% success rate even then. Action Boost got nerfed, too. Revenge is completely gone.

Still, I'm really glad to see Dark Hunters got a skill that boosts the ailment infliction rate whenever you fail to land one. Gunners also get a passive to reuse a skill in the same turn, while Hexers get two new skills. They get Sacrifice, which kills an ally to deal untyped damage to all enemies, and "Blessing of Cursed Chains," which massively boosts the success rate of the ailment used on the next turn, but also binds the hexer's arms and legs.

Wait, huh? No Painless + Axcela II spam anymore?

Wait, huh? No Painless + Axcela II spam anymore?

Nope, it's a Force Boost skill, too, so no spamming. They do get a really good skill – Sentinel Guard – that gives the entire party the same defense/vitality as the protector on the turn used and lowers the damage received on top of that, but it also disables all shield skills on the next turn.

I'm just glad you can finally see what numbers change by leveling up each skill without needing to consult a skill simulator now, though.

Well, arguably Survivalist was better than Gunner in the Revenge + Dominate setup since 1st Turn was easier to spam than Riot Gun.

Was mostly a joke but good to know things got revamped. Looking forward to going over the mechanics changes, EO2 holds a soft spot for me with the mechanics since it's the one I put the most effort into solving :x

...

A part of me is sad. I mean, it's good overall but still. Guess I get to be lazier!

The new skills sound nice. I'm confused about the Force skills being usable once per exploration though. Is that a new change? Because it limits their use something severe.

True. They were pretty good for getting to land binds or status first.

At last! Surely that'll become a regular feature going forward so folks won't have to work out the skill numbers by hand anymore.

The game's going to feel quite different with its crazy powerful force powers rebalanced, though.

You can still share your crazy setups for bonus bosses!

Boy, with the Force skills nerf I wonder how we'll have to tackle the bonus boss at night.

There goes that bit of fun!

Is the Beasts' Loyalty still suidical?

Each character now gets two force skills – a force boost and a force break. The force boost is usable whenever the gauge fills and is a passive buff that can't be cancelled for three turns. The break, on the other hand, is only usable after activating the boost, and after using it, it immediately removes the boost state and prevents the gauge from being filled until you return to town.

Here's the complete list, courtesy of various GameFAQs and Something Awful users:

Fafnir:
Boost: Transform — Increase max HP and attack power, while temporarily unlocking additional skills

*Later upgrades to Akeshic Nova.

Oh yeah, this is definitely new. Interesting way of balancing Force skills.

Sad to hear that Dominate (or Rose Prison in this case) and Riot Gun have been nerfed though. No guaranteed full bind or stun anymore.

I should also mention that the boosts don't take up a buff slot, kind of like the Arcanist's circles and the Imperial's cooldown timer.

Didn't know Princesses would appear in this game.

Man, now I'm debating what to play first: classic or story mode.

Can't wait to play it
next year :(

Yeah I kind of guessed that when you said that they couldn't be cancelled.

I see they nerfed Action Boost as well. It isn't a passive that you could pass around in grimoires anymore.

Nice work on the import OT. Looking forward to playing it
next year.

thanks!

will have to add that info to the ot after work, good stuff finding it!

I'm really curious to see how the new war magus fares. They still essentially do everything they could before, but the way they do it is really weird now. Their normal heals now trigger once at the start of the turn and again at the end of the turn, and they also get two different heals that trigger whenever all allies act or when a targeted enemy acts. They also get a revive that's guaranteed to work at the start of the turn but has a chance of triggering on the same ally at the end of the turn.

They clearly wanted to differentiate them from medics more, but I don't know which is the more effective healer.

Do these delayed heals take up a buff slot? I can see them being useful to recover from predicted near party wipes. An interesting way to differentiate them from medics instead of having them being jack of all trades, that's for sure.

This would actually give them ways to deal with RNG-based wipes like Ur-Child's night rotation. You either dealt with every situation or just prayed you didn't get RNG'd out of the fight. Of course, it's still RNG but, hey!

As long as they keep the Sword SPD boost, they'll probably still be better than Medics too :x

Everyone who buys this, I hope you forget your ariadne's threads every time
ill just buy persona q tomorrow or something. :(

Yeah, I was thinking of it might be useful against stuff like Begone, though I don't know if it'll still trigger after a total party wipe. This call for experimentation. Guess you'll still have to get busy after all, scy!

The squirrels were in II, right? I can't wait for the newcomers' reactions to them.

The new Boost/Break mechanic reminding me a little of Riviera.

Nice to see that they nerfed them though, they were almost scarily overpowered in the original game.

Pretty sure they don't take up anything – it's just treated like any other skill that lasts the duration of the turn, like links and chases.

I really want to buy this, but I'm forcing myself to stick with one game at a time.

Gonna save this for winter break and play PSNova for now. Enjoy, you guys. T_T
