Why Doesn't Sony Release a PS Vita Grip With L2/R2?

Releasing hardware that will be adopted by max half of vita owners (which is already a low amount) which will have functionality less that 1/4 devs will use wont end well. See PlayStation Move.

I'd love to see triggers on the next portable PlayStation
which probly will never exist

stil think supporting a ds4 is a better option, its missing more buttons than just those 2 triggers, and the sticks kinda suck.

Just make the next Vita revision a dualshock controller with a screen at the top. This solves so many of the Vita control and ergonomic problems .

They haven't even bothered bringing the 64 GB memory card over to the west so I don't expect them to make any effort t all.

They should just take a Dual Shock 4, cut the left and right sides off, shrink it down a little but retain the analogue sticks to no less than 50% of their size (with click-in), and slap the Vita in the middle. Job done!

Lack of L2/R2 is why i wont even waste my time making remote play work.

Eh, I think when a developer takes remote play seriously, it turns out well. I think Destiny did it well. GTA V definitely did. L2/R2 are set to the left and right buttons. L1/R1 are set to the back touch pad. Each gets a full half of the back touch pad, which means you likely won't have to bumble around to find the correct "touch zone". L3/R3 are set to the bottom corners of the touch screen and are comfortable distance from the sticks, so it works just as well as clicking in the sticks would. The middle of the touch screen doubles as tapping the DualShock 4's touch pad. Everything is fairly responsive. The sticks at first feel a bit loose, but I got very used to them. I think this is the default set up most games should use when doing remote play.

I agree with this. It's more feasible for Sony to implement support for the Dual Shock 3 and/or Dual Shock 4 (using a Bluetooth connection) than to essentially create a new "controller" for PS Vita.

it doesnt enen need to be an add-on function... (just an attachment that uses pads to "press" the back touchpad, as opposed to additional software tweaking)

basically it could just have triggers that have those ipad stylus nibs, and when the triggers are pulled the nib just touch the back touchpad.

This means it would be supported by EVEYTHING regardless of if a game was specifically developed for it or not.

Yes, that is what I had in mind. I wish someone would create this.

where would the grip go?

That's an excellent question.
That's not an excellent question.

I asked myself this question when I tried to remote play DA:I the other day. The fact that no other company has made a grip with triggers that work on the rear touchpad is baffling.

Another good solution would be if someone(either Sony or a third party) makes a grip with two buttons placed upon the upper half of the touchpad(which is usually where L2 and R2 are mapped).

Something like this:

you're missing out then. there are a lot of games that are using various "tricks" to make up for the lack of buttons. destiny for example uses the front touch screen and Dpad, and it works quite well

the remote play games where the dev simply added the functionality without remapping controls are the ones that are a pain, since they use the terrible back touch for a lot of functions.

There's probably a good reason why it doesn't exist but i know i want one.

It would be a relatively simple mechanical device. There is no reason a third party company couldn't make one.
Maybe the reason it doesn't exist is that no-one has thought of it until now.
I have no ieda how many you'd have to sell to make a profit, but considering how many different grips exist for PS Vita, that number can't be huge.
