CD Projekt RED "Witcher 3 content is locked" Extra dev time being used to squash bugs

Crossing Eden

Hello, my name is Yves Guillemot, Vivendi S.A.'s Employee of the Month!

“We are removing the final bugs and still running optimization in various areas. What it will result in is a smoother and more engaging experience and, yes, the game looking better across all platforms. The content is locked, so no content changes are being made at this point. The scale of the open world in the Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is unprecedented, so fear not – there is enough gameplay to keep you playing for weeks.”

This is good news but more dev time is always a good thing.

But... but... if the game doesn't come out in November it might as well never come out right!

Glad some companies still have pride in their work.

They have a small QA team? Seems like a long time for bugs.

It seems they learned the lesson that others did not. I'm sure there will be a few here and there, but games today are immensely complicated, beyond whatever you can imagine, polishing them isn't like a 2 week kinda deal.

THIS is what I like to see from developers.

The game is ready when it's ready. Be patient. Let us squash the bugs and give you a better experience overall.

Glad to hear this is a priority for them. It would be pretty embarrassing for a game from Poland to lack polish.

Not so fast CD Projekt.

I have not finished The Witcher 3 yet so you should delay for 6 months and make a better game.

Very glad to hear, glad it's an extra priority given the current times.

Time is ticking for me to even start The Witcher 2, I think it's time I put away Gears 3 MP and Marvel 3 for a bit and just focus on my backlog now.

Glad to hear this is a priority for them. It would be pretty embarrassing for a game from Poland to lack polish.

I can't leave the thread without recognizing and applauding this post my man.

The Witcher 3 |OT| The most Polished Game of the Year

You can do better than that!

How about, "The Game with the Most Polish" or "The Most Polish You'll Find this Year"

If they delay it one more time, it'll probably end up being the first game to launch as a GOTY edition. Free DLC finished before the game is out. :-)

Let's wait to see what state it releases in before we say what types of notes they should be taking :P
Yea, this may not necessarily be a great thing. I mean, good that they're not going to release it in an awful state, but we have no idea just *how* awful it is at the moment. The extra time may simply to get it to a minimum playable state for all we know.

I'm still holding out some hope that 'across all platforms' includes Linux, but it doesn't sound like they'll have the time for an additional port.

If there is a day 1 patch this whole statement is a lie.

Well they have to release the game at end of the day. No game will ever be bug free especially not one the size of Witcher 3. The delay shows that at least they care about delivering a quality product.

I remember when people used to be pissed when a game was delayed. Now, after the release of countless buggy games that have plagued the gaming industry, gamers are ecstatic to hear that a game is delayed in the hope that the game will be a solid release with little to no bugs.

If there is a day 1 patch this whole statement is a lie.

The game that is released on day 1 pre-patch will have been a build from at least a couple of weeks earlier as they had to submit for approval and print CDs.
They don't just send the whole QA team home as soon as CDs are being printed, they will be finding more bugs and the devs will be fixing them, which is why day 1 patches are common.

If they're really gonna release it as promised I will buy it from gog.com as soon as some trusted reviewer reviews the pc version of the game.
I'ts absolutely ok to release your game later to fix bugs, test it to assure that we have a good experience (which always should be the case).

I wonder if I should trust this statement.
Given the (declared) size and scope of the game plus two delays in a row, I figured they were probably struggling to put in enough content for the release.

Can't wait. Ubisoft and 343 should take note.
What about if we spare the praises for when it's actually out and doesn't suck?
