PS4 sales have surpassed 5.3 million units according to Sony (As of Feb 8)

Last of Us also released at a time in which many people owned a PS3 too. If that game was a launch title then I think it would have pushed many into getting a console to play it.

We simply don't know yet. Got to see how things will play out.

QB has a less chance to be a system seller than SO. SO has a much wider appeal.

While I don't know whether they are taking the news hard or not..I wouldn't be surprised if they are. From an outsiders perspective, they are in a bit of a tight spot

If the company is not taking a competitor's 1+ million lead as hard, they are in even more trouble than I thought.

I guess my outsiders perspective is a bit different than yours. I can't see how any company would be in a panic mode after three months after a product launch. Now, if November 2014 rolls around and they're still lagging significantly behind Sony after a year, then yeah I would say they would probably be in a panic mode.

I think we will probably see a price drop in time for Summer, but I hardly think anyone's head is on the chopping block just yet.

You'll probably hear the term "truck loads of money" being used.

Finally, a dominant console that isn't underpowered relative to the competition!
looking at you PS2
The PS2 was *far* more powerful than anything out there March 2000. It was a powerhouse.
The Xbox (twice the size of the PS2) released November 2001 which made it possible to implement programmable shaders.

This is how EA, Peter Moore and Respawn feel about right now!!

Don't think so. They got a ton of money from the deal and MS is going to GREATLY advertise the game for them -- possibly even to the point in which EA don't have to do much in that area themselves. Wouldn't be the same if it was on Xbox and Playstation.

You think so? We'll see I guess.

The game just reminds me a lot of Jet Grind Radio with its pop-art/hyper colorful style and I know that game didn't do too well.

the dates they choose for this cut off is unusual, One would think they'd take it closes to Japan launch as possible to say WW numbers as it should be like 5.5 mil easy by then

They should be worrying merely for the fact that the sales difference is widening, not narrowing. What are the odds the Xbox One has even crossed 3.5 million sold? I really doubt they're anywhere close to 4 million.

If that is true, it makes the decision not to 'can' the PC and 360 versions all the more perplexing.....

Guess they didn't want to spend even more money. They might have thought since PC was a different market compared to the console market it won't matter and it being on 360 would still help build a fanbase for the game for future xbone owners

iirc Respawn has the current deal with EA only for the first game...I could be mistaken. But both EA and Respawn would be absolutely nuts, or get an even bigger check to not have Titanfall 2 or Titanfall Sigma (lol) on the ps4 as soon as possible.

Don't worry, I'll vouch for them.

I think they should be taking it hard because it has only been 3 months and by a lot of accounts they are the ones with the better exclusive titles right now and a huge game on the horizon. Yet their console just sits on store shelves.

Not that they're exactly pining for sales, money or hype, but man did EA ever back the wrong horse with their Titanfall deal.

Respawn is ran by a couple of guys who didn't much enjoy their last situation... Here's betting they don't sell their souls again
What's hilarious is that they left to startup infinity ward in the first place because ea was dicking them around after Medal of Honor Allied Assault.

My outsider pov looking in to both of your pov is different again. I think they've been in panic mode since Sony's shotgun reveal last Feb.

edit: Fast thread is fast.

Far more powerful? The Dreamcast with every game in 480p says hi.

Although I am a Xbox fan, I have nothing else to say, just CONGRATULATIONS TO SONY & PS4.

The gap between PS4 and Xbox One seems already approximate 2 millions.

Microsoft, please learn from Sony how to executive your consumer business.

I'm actually a bit surprised. I speculated in the NPD thread that they shifted more of their stock out of NA to deal with disgustingly long wait times (up to three months for people reserving units in some countries), but I still didn't think they actually managed to push this much stock through in January. I was actually expecting their current number to be sitting somewhere just south of five million, with the Japanese launch being their plan to push it over.

Does mean they've probably reserved less stock for the Japanese launch than a lot of people would hope, though, unless their production is actually higher than anyone has thus far surmised.

I know. I was mostly joking. The "mostly" part is because IQ was sort of ass compared to the Dreamcast.

If they don't act now, they'll be laggin significantly in Nov 2014. That's why we say they're in tight spot.

Hardly. The Xbox One is doing fantastic sales wise and has yet the launch in several key territories.

But will it make a difference?

Finland probably does not count as a "key territory", but the sad thing for MS is that the XBox One is and has been readily available here for months. You can pick one up just by walking into any Verkkokauppa store. Last time I visited they had a pile of FIFA bundles and the their website shows over 25 available right now. ( The online counter only goes up to 25 ). The stock has been moved here from Germany.

The punchline is that the One does not even have a release date for Finland yet. At the same time the PS4 is still sold out everywhere.

These are very impressive numbers

How many consoles are they launching in Japan? Any estimate?

"Nah THIS time it'll be different" *5 years later* "Okay, new company... lets make another revolutionary shooter."

It's getting easier and easier to sell to friends - I just show them those comparison jpgs with 'drag this bar left and right to see the difference'.

Yesterday: "why does the xbox one look so bad? urghh" - response to Ghosts comparison gif, the one in space. That's one more person who will buy a PS4 this year having previously owned a 360.

For MS to have a shot a doing better than Sony in overall worldwide sales, they would need to literally release at least a year before Sony.

sure the gen is early and still a lot can change, and MS will know this. But it's not looking good at the moment and it should cause some concern to them. The latest NPD figures were so one sided towards the PS4 despite MS flooding the US market with stock. Taking back market share can be a difficult and expensive journey

They're able to produce 1 million consoles a month. It doesn't matter what gets diverted where, everything is selling out still so they're on track for 1 million per month still. Until stock starts sitting that number will continue.

Probably not. They got their money (and they probably made sure they got truckloads of it).

Still EA and Respawn will get screwed. Deals like these usually are based on an estimated amount of game sales, on predicted hardware numbers. I bet M$oft and EA did not expect the PS4 to sell this well and be kicking the Xbone ass. By the time Titanfall comes out the PS4 might be sitting almost 3mil units ahead of the XBONE.

To be fair, didn't Sony and Microsoft's sales both drop significantly in January compared to December?

Verkkokauppas are very few though.

Not that it matters anyway though.
