Best Pro Evolution Soccer game for PS3?

So I've just recently got into football games, and am having a blast with PES 6 on my 360... However, I'll be moving to the UK in about a month and won't be taking my 360 with me as I mainly game on PC these days and there's no realistic reason to take my 360 with me (just finishing up Forza Horizon and I'll be completely done with ol' faithful).

As such, I want a new PES to enjoy with my PS3 (which still has plenty to give me since I bought it much later than the 360) abroad. Which is the best one available?

Don' tell me to buy FIFA instead, played FIFA 13 and I don't like it nearly as much.

Despite it's faults I think my favorite PES of the PS3/360 gen was PES 2011, if only for the depth of the Master League mode. PES 2013 comes in a close second but suffers from classic Konami feature cut.

PES 2012 and 13 are decent. I think 14 is a lil too strange. You can see they are trying, but they failed big time.

Me and my friends actully think 14 is the best one ever made.
It's a little bit too hard to score from out of the box, though.

We are not Fifa players though, so I can't make any comparisons.

It becomes harder to recommend post-6 pes because there are no real stand outs abd it's much more down to taste as this thread already shows lol! I wonder if all the demos are still available on PSN?

Out of interest will you be taking your pc with you?

Yep. I'd personally go with 13 as it has the best balance out of the last few entries.
14 is problematic on several levels.
Techwise its a mess. The eninge is too next gen for PS3 to handle, especially in replays, the entry of the players, etc. Its basically a slideshow. There is still some kind of "input lag", that is blamed on the animation. Player reacting with delay because the need to process the ball and the animation starts always relative to the balls position on the pitch. Cursor switch delay is also a problem that is annoying. Try both if you can, the demos are in the PSN I think, but I'd recommend PES13 as its the most fun.

Sure. But I'll only be taking one 360 controller (we have 3, but I have to leave at least 2 of them behind with the 360, my brothers are very avid splitscreen co-op/multiplayer fans), so it makes more sense to buy it for PS3, since I'll have 2 controllers and it's a game that'll probably be getting quite alot of multiplayer usage, right.

I know you said "Don't tell me FIFA"... but FIFA just really is the better game these days. The only reason to stick with the current versions of PES is to be some sort of gaming hipster. I mean, at this point PES is objectively the worse game. So, all that being said, what exactly is it that you prefer about PES? I've played the last three versions and can't find a single thing it does better than FIFA (well... some of the visuals and animations in 2014 are pretty damn nice).

Did you even read what he wrote?

PES 14 has drops?

We played a lot during the hollidays but I didn't notice...

Gameplay is ok, but have you watched a replay or the players entering the pitch?
Its like running with 10 or 12 frames per second. And the level of detail is pretty reduced in gameplay. If somebody wants to play PES14 its better to do it on PC.

You could always use the DS3 on the PC.

Christ. You seem to be struggling with the basic concept that different people like different things.

My favourites were 2013, 2011, 2010, 2012, 2009, 2008 in that order.

I haven't played 2014, I'm cursing Konami for not bothering their hole releasing a PS4 edition and forcing me to buy Fifa instead

Yeah, that's true to some degree, but FIFA and PES are two games attempting the same thing: a semi-realistic football simulator. It's not like one embraces the "street" style of games and the other leans towards sim. They're going after the same market. And opinions about games aren't quite as subjective as films or other entertainment media. Since user input and competition are inherent in the game design, there are certain things that can make a game better or worse.

Sure, but that would require constantly synching it back and forth between the PC and the PS3 whenever I wanted to use it (e isso dá trabalho, a malta é perguiçosa... e depois queixavam-se que estavam a perder por os comandos serem diferentes, já se sabe como é, lol).

Is the PC version that superior?

I think the gameplays is much, much better in PES. To be fair, I base my claim solely on PES 6 and FIFA 13 (with a few matches of PES '14 thrown in a a mates' house) on the 360, but if you want to know more, just go check out the thread I linked to in the OP.

Yes. Easier modding for original lincences, faces, names, kits, balls, boots, divisions etc.
PS3 version has horrible loading times for edited data. On PC you have better performance, downsampling, anisotropic filter, AA, etc. Tools for tweaking the AI and level of detail.

As someone that has recently been forced to switch to Fifa I take major issue with this statement. It isn't anywhere near as fun to play as PES.

I'll definitely keep this in mind if I decide to go with '14. Still a while to go 'til I do make the purchase though, let's see if this goes anywhere.

I'm leaning more towards '13 so far, based on what Gaf's said.

How recently were you forced to switch to FIFA? My theory is that you're just not used to it yet, and this time next year you'll laugh when you think back and try to remember what it was about PES you preferred.

PES 13 looks like ass but is a finished product in terms of gameplay. PES 2014 looks great but is unfinished.

3 months now,I have put in a fair amount of time aswell. I really dont like it's slower pace, it feels like the players are stuck in mud. Also I'm finding that lofted thru balls, headers and finesse shots are completely overpowered to the point of game-breaking. The formation/tactics set up is needlessly complicated and the career mode is a shadow PES's master league. Obviously these are just my opinions, I'm not saying PES is a vastly superior game, just that I very much prefer it.

We got your point, mate. OP is favouring PES, so no need to derail this topic.

I feel like the lofted thru balls and finesse shots have been fixed since last year. Starting with FIFA 13, I'd make the argument that playing defense became the more strategic and important part of FIFA. It's all about hanging back, playing zones, and not being too aggressive. When I'm playing online against people who attempt to abuse the thru ball, I just play boring as shit defense and possession ball and wait for the guy to get impatient and miss a tackle or press. I'll admit it can make for a slow, boring game, but that's better than a game where I'm throwing my $60 dual shock at the fucking TV because I'm pissed that the opponent got a cheesy, avoidable goal. Most people don't abuse thru balls though, and those games are very fun and offensively oriented.

Fair enough; I'll stop responding. I'm not trying to be an ass; I just genuinely wonder what it is that people can prefer about PES these days. I used to love a game of PES myself, but I feel they've just really dropped the ball the last few years.

I just gave several reasons off the top of my head and you have pretty much dismissed them. Some people (like myself and the OP) just prefer PES.

anyway, just to get back on-topic i'll reiterate my earlier post: 2013, 2011, 2010, 2012, 2009, 2008 in that order

I didn't dismiss them, I just don't agree with them. You said you've been playing for 3 months; I still think you'll get better and more used to the FIFA play style and come to appreciate it. The comment about the tactics set up being too complicated, well, I don't know... I just don't really see what's complicated about it. You select a formation and select your players. It's about as straight forward as it gets. You can switch aggression on the fly in-game. As for PES's career mode, I'll give you that one. The Master League is fun.

cause u r playing the PS3 version
Bla pls, I haven't played a PES game on PlayStation since PES 6.

Basically PS2 engine in HD, seabass heritage, something something Japanese devs something, CR7 on the cover and what bla said. Pls understand.

Seabass is a dickhead. Should have gone on a hunger strike demanding that Konami give him enough funds for a new engine.
Instead he pussied out and is now locked away in some Konami office along with Igarashi. Probably smokes weed all day.

At least Konami reacted and let Kojima make the engine. All it needs now is him directing the game. Imagine the live action cutscenes. Konami should also outsource Castlevania to Kojima... damn... is there anything that Kojima isnt doing for them?
