Best DiRT game?

DiRT 1 and 2 were the best. The newer games were too Bro X-game crap and not enough rally. I really hope Codemasters focusses on rally again for their next game.

Really enjoyed 2, but the first is the greatest imo - the main reason being Pikes Peak.

Followed up nice restrained presentation.

The Dirt series or some shit DLC for Forza isn't worth the time nor money, the best rally games are:

Colin McRae Rally 2.0 (PC)
Mobil 1 Rally Championship (PC)
Rally Trophy (PC)
WRC 2 Xtreme (PS2)
WRC Rally Evolved ( PS2)
Rally Shox (PS2)
Richard Burns Rally + mods (PC)
Rallisport Challenge 2 (Xbox)

It's a tough choice between Dirt 1 & 2 for a few reasons. Dirt 1 has the best car and track selection of the series, no contest. But Dirt 2 is much more fun to actually drive and race in IMHO. The handling and graphical improvements of Dirt 2 over Dirt 1 just makes it more fun for me to play. I wish I could get the content of Dirt 1 in the Dirt 2 game engine, that would be the absolute best rally game of all time.

Dirt 3 I don't care for, all of that gymkata stuff was stupid to me. I want to play a rally game, not a mixture of various genres. Make a separate gymkata game and keep the Dirt series in the dirt please.

For me, 2 > 1 >>>>>>>> 3.
I agree with all of this. I would rate Dirt 1 a bit higher, but the light bloom in the game is so strong it's distracting. I like the course selection more, but the bump up in the visuals with 2 makes it a stronger contender. None of the games had enough rally for my liking, but 1 had the most.

If you don't care much about visuals, and you want 100% rally, you should check out WRC 3.

Dirt 1 is easily the best. Though I miss the rewind feature as I suck at racing games.

Edit: imo the "extreme" stuff in the sequels ruined the series. Hopefully they return to the series roots with the next game.

Strangely, I've gotten an itch for rally games too. And I don't play racers/rally's (very very rare that I do).

Dirt 2 seems to be the better choice

Everyone talking smack about Showdown is crazy. That games wicked fun!

It had a fun emphasis on being willing to be aggressive that I enjoyed. The demolition derbys were great too!

Y'all a bunch of uptight boners, Showdowns great.

I love Dirt 3 because of the weather but the tracks were pretty short.

With that said, Dirt 2 was my favorite because the rally tracks were longer.

Dirt one had the most traditional tracks but the handling was so delicate that it was frustrating to play.

For me 1 was a disaster, nice rally sections but the handling was dire. Dirt 2 was a recovery process and moved a lot closer to providing a fun balance. Dirt 3 had the elements but alas it was all bite sized chunks, nothing to really get your teeth into, and lets face it, the rewind options kills rally games.

I'm not sure but it's definitely not three. I got it for free and it's just not my type of racing game. I gave it a shot, played around 3 hours. It's on my do not play list on steam.

I think Dirt 3 is the best all round game (those Group B monsters!) but Dirt 1 has Pikes Peak. I still own it for that reason alone, I must have thousands of runs up that mountain.

I probably played 3 the most, but that's because it's the game I started with.

That being said, those obnoxious menus that Codemasters keep putting in their games has to go. I don't want to look at several seconds of animations in five consecutive screens between every race, and I certainly don't want to wait for audio explanations that can't be skipped.

That's hilarious!

The Flatout games did that but way better (except 3, that's a different company's game and utter shit). Look out for Bugbear's NextCarGame if you are into that kind of stuff.

Seriously, someone had way more fun designing these menus than us players using them. And no menu should require a minute-long audio explanation. If you have to do that, you failed with the menu design.

My issue with Showdown isn't that it's not fun. It is just a completely different game and not a rally game at all. It really isn't much more than a mediocre arcade racer, FlatOut 2 has better gameplay in my opinion.

How are there so many frames in this gif?

There are exactly 50 frames, every single second! (The most a GIF allows!)

And the way is that I put effort into trying to make GIFs look good!

Seriously, I love smooth framerate GIFs so I try to make them nice when I can.

I've got an eye on that game, it looks great!

I don't think it not being a rally game is an issue, especially when they never tried to lead anyone to believe it would be a rally game.

Also, I haven't played FlatOut 2, but whether it's a better game or not doesn't take away from the fact that Showdown is still a ton of fun to play.

I liked Dirt 1 & 2 the most. The long sectors in Dirt 1 and variety of vehicles of 2 was great. Dirt 3 felt like stylish driving but the rally events were brief.

You forgot the absolutely best Rally game of all time, Gran Turismo 3.
No other rally game has every recreated the feel of cars gripping the dirt roads as good as it.
Everything else feels like cars float on top of them.
