Oh god, the last thing I want to do is go back to Arkham Asylum again :p

It'll be pretty different than before, but similar in some ways.

You'll earn most of your abilities and gadgets while in Asylum, by the time Batman goes to Arkham City almost everything is unlocked. Arkham City gameplay will revolve around exploration and using gadgets creatively to uncover and discover stuff. All guess work, but if Rocksteady is working with last gen tech this Batman game will have a similar formula but spiced/changed up.

With a lot of UE3 devs you can see some UE4 mentions either in their job postings or their staff linkedin accounts skills section. Rocksteady I can't find evidence of however.

Either Rocksteady is very sneaky or they're still using UE3, presumably for cross-gen.

Hmm, well hopefully they're just sneaky then. I get not wanting to lose out on PS3/360 user base/money, but would love it if Rocksteady's doing the next gen version and the same WB studio that did Origins do the PS3/360 version.

God I hope this'll be built from the ground up for PC/current-gen. The "old" games still look great, but if they dropped last-gen it would probably blow minds.

Conceptually the issue is the whole game still has to be carefully designed to run on current-gen even if it's farmed out.

I wonder if it's the rumor vintage Batman(Variety had that rumor) or a sequel of Arkham City.

If I had to choose which one I want, I'd go with sequel to Arkham City. I want to see how Bruce is holding up after Arkham City's ending, and Hush being the villain would probably mean another frantic mish mash of villains.

How many times can they do this before people realize its the same thing 3 times over...

I can't imagine what Rocksteady is going to do. If this game manages to top Asylum and City, the franchise is solidified.

I'm really excited just to get an idea of what they're doing.

Gotham City ain't coming with last gen hardware in the picture. Batman: Gotham City would be the logical next step but its not going to happen soon.

I'm pretty pumped to see if they put in vehicles the player can drive ie batmobile. Also, hopefully a Gotham city setting.

Right. That seems fun I guess. My point is how are people not bored with the game design by now? Maybe WB wants to milk this thing into the ground...The past 3 games mix it up ever so slightly but hell I got burnt out and I thought I was a huge fan of the Arkham franchise.

Either way, I'll throw out a random guess on the GI cover if it's NOT Batman: The return to Silent Hill! :p

but arkham origins was gotham city.

Only part of the city, iirc. Gimme Batman: Gotham Knight with the whole city plus a fully-rendered Wayne Manor and Batcave, plus tons of unlockables. I want to see the Bat Signal in the sky, drive to police headquarters and sneak up on Gordon.

Batwing would be gravy. This must be what they're working on, right? There are no more half-measures they can do. Time for the open-world Batman game we deserve.

Edit: Sorry for being breathlessly OT.

I feel like the more important takeaway is that Game Informer [and all other magazines for that matter] seem to be finally wising up to the notion that they are no longer the best way to reveal something. Their impending irrelevance is interesting in of itself

Hopes are way too high regarding new gen-only games from multiplat publishers. I'd not be surprised a bit if the next Batman game in 2015 is cross-gen.

They've gotten a whole extra year to develop it compared to AC though I fully expect big things even with last gen hardware.

Next gen only games have too high hopes in general. You have giant doom threads about how the industry is failing and expect all games to be next gen only in 2015. Doesn't make since.

A great comic by the name of Planetary, explores a lot of pulp/genre fiction like Godzilla, John Woo action movies, James Bond, and one issue they went up against the various forms of Batman. It was a very smart, entertaining book with some fantastic artwork.

They also released an Omnibus recently since I believe the Absolute editions are out of print. Wish I'd picked up the second volume but the omnibus should do.

Very curious to see what changes and such Rocksteady has come up with. Maybe it's a globe trotting adventure or something.

<------------Lets do this!

Although honestly I'm going to be disappointed if its just another solo Batman game, goddamnit I want Rocksteady to do a Superman game. Or at least a team up game, especially with the movie coming out in 2016....Maybe that's what Montreal is doing now?
