Seems Target stores has the most stock for PS4's. I just checked area codes for manhattan and a few boroughs and they all have stock.

Just curious and maybe someone could explain this to me. But let's say the X1 has sold 4 million; why is that considered a failure to everyone? It's a $100 bucks more and in a third of all the countries the competitors console is selling in. In that respect 4 million looks pretty good doesn't it?

In terms of performance vs. the competition, of course.

When two boxers square off, and one of them ends up knocked out, I never hear anyone say "Well, he didn't really LOSE, did he? He still made 8 million dollars for this fight, and he's still ranked #2 in his weight class."

Yes, the Xbox One will be fine. That doesn't mean it isn't a disappointment, or even a "failure", by some metrics.

This talk about percentages is really cute, but who of the two sold more last week.

Does it mean anything that the XBO/ TF article doesn't mention them selling the most of the week?

Not sure if new-thread-worthy, but:

Really adds a lot of context to that percentage increase.
I'd say most people that wanted Titanfall already bought one in the past few months.

Titanfall IS a system seller, but its been selling systems since launch and Titanfall alone isn't going to be enough to overtake the PS4 lifetime sales. If Microsoft was smart they would have waited a few more months and released the game closer to the holidays where it would have had a much much bigger impact. The only thing that can have a big enough impact now is Halo 5 and I don't see that releasing this year...

because x1 is getting outsold in the only 2 markets the xbox brand holds any relevance in, uk and us. if ms lose these 2 markets their strategy of money hatting devs gets a whole lot more expensive which is why they are responding by price cuts and titanfall bundles. ms doesnt have the 1st party studios or brand power of sony so they need to react much quicker than sony did with ps3. ms is panicking big time right now

Sorry if it's already been done. Please check maths.

x = xbox one rate
y = ps4 rate

Assume equal:

1.96 x = 1.724 y implies x/y = 1.724/1.96 ≈ 88% ≈ 8/11

So if the Xbox One were selling 8 systems for every 11 PS4s the previous week, then they would have tied this past week.

If the Xbox One were selling fewer than 8 systems for every 11 PS4s the previous week, then the PS4 beat the Xbox One this past week.

If the Xbox One were selling more than 8 systems for every 11 PS4s the previous week, then the Xbox One beat the PS4 this past week.

Sorry, just had to get it out of my head.

If it's the biggest sales of any game on any format this year in an individual week then it has done well, Titanfall seems to have that word of mouth thing going that turned Call Of Duty 4 into a monster over time. The impact of the game could be ongoing.

This thread is about the UK it sold +125k copies in three days. Does that not count as extremely well?

People aren't saying the game didn't sell well. We all knew it would always sell well. What people are saying is that the boost wasn't exactly great. For all the money MS dumped into it, and the insane hype the followed the game, it certainly is somewhat disappointing.

In isolation from the PS4, the Xbone sales are great in comparison to pretty much every previous console release ever. That should not be understated at all.

The issue that some see is that it is already out in its two strongest markets (NA & UK), where the 360 held a 3:2 advantage over the PS3. It was those two markets that tipped the scales to keep PS360 sales at parity at the end of last gen with circa 80m each. The Xbox brand is weaker in (I think) every other country on the planet. The Xbone is already out in the ones that really paid the 360 any great attention at all. So the quantity of markets it is available in isn't really going to do much for its sales.

So far this gen, the PS4 is narrowly beating the Xbone in the US, is about 3:2 in the UK, and more in other countries. The Xbone doesn't have the territories secured to drive to parity of adoption and the PS4 is heavily supply limited despite selling better. The thinking being that as the gap widens between the two machines, less 3rd party games will get Xbone ports, devs might put less effort in and so the reasons to get one gets smaller as time rolls on.

Frankly, it's just interesting to see the seachange in public perception from one generation to the next. People who were PS2 gamers but 360s first, people who were 360 gamers bought the PS4 first.

Maybe? but were already seeing signs that a lower price & a pack in hot property new Ip isn't really shifting that many units (or as many as projected), and retailers are already lowering those RRP's to £369 and we've just seen another retailer (albeit for a limited time) offer a £299 + fifa pack in, I have faith.

Isn't there some info regarding the attachment rate being 2.8 games purchased per console etc? MS will take a hit on the console to grow the platform whilst making it back on software sales.

They cant remove Kinect this year at least so there's no room in cutting the BOM yet so that just leaves price.

I'd gladly jump back in a £300 + Titanfall ;-)

It all depends on how much margin we think they have. If we think they can drop to £400 in the UK and still break even on the hardware, then £300 + a game is £100+ a go. If they did that worldwide for say 6 months before they could get the BOM down, that's say 6m units sold at a cost to them of £600m. Fine, they get money from games, lets say £15 a game, 2.8 games per unit sold, Still only £252m. add in the Gold sub at £60 for the roughly what, 50% of people that buy Gold?, Thats another £180m. Still £168m shy.

All depends on numbers we just don't know.

x = xbox one rate

x/y = 1.724/1.96 ≈ 88% ≈ 8/11

Hmm 1.724 is the PS4's sales increase rate so y = 1.724

You seem to have X and Y flipped in this case

All right you edited and I'm not confused but not willing to put in the effort to understand

If PS4 was already selling more than Xbox One to begin with, their 72% could have produced a larger effect than Microsoft's 96%.

See my clarification, sorry about that. I think I have it right now.

X and Y are previous week's sales I take it?

I thought they were supposed to be the sales rates themselves but now I realize they aren't

Perhaps using unit sales would be more clear?

I keep seeing this and I don't get it. It's coming out on four platforms and there are reports everywhere that it's overpriced. I just don't see it pushing ps4s. Infamous might be a different story, though.

It's just a combination of it all. PS4 already is selling systems. What Sony is looking for now is software that will make people who were waiting on the system to go ahead and pick one up. Metal Gear is a popular product. Infamous is going to get a ton of word of mouth from the many watercooler moments the high IQ and gameplay style will provide, etc. Then the incoming avalanche of indie software like Fez, Towerfall, etc.

Software is software. PS4 just happens to be the system that will have the best version of the Tomb Raiders and Metal Gears and Watch Dogs.

The person I quoted was talking about the game.

Sorry, just had to get it out of my head.

Ratio is roughly 8/9, which is .888 repeating. Multiply those numbers by 1.96 and 1.72 respectively to check your math :)

Problem is, is the UK even getting regular weekly PS4 shipments?

For me at came out at nearer 1.1375:1 ratio. I think I put 1.138:1 in my post. Yours is 1:375:1. That a large difference.

Maybe my maths is the dumb?

My 1.1375:1 sums

10,000 xbone week 1 + 96% = 19600 Week 2
11,350 PS4 week 1 + 72.4% = 19567 week 2

50,000 Xbone week 1 + 96% = 98,000 week 2
56,875 PS4 week 1 + 72.4% = 98052 week 2

It's a lot more fun this way though! "Wow, what an increase!"

This must be one if the most meaningless sales discussions ever here on Neogaf. It's 16 pages of air coming out of the collective asses of the posters here. Oh well... will be back when we have some more concrete things.

That number for ps4 makes the TF boost seem pretty inconsequential...sonys ony issue is supply. TF is not going to have the effect MS wanted, been saying it for months.

The lack of PR from MS might mean that the numbers aren't to their satisfaction, or at least they can't spin them in any super positive way against the PS4.

Thread title is pretty funny though.

Congratulations Microsoft. It was clearly a good decision to cut the price and bundle in Titanfall. 96% increase is impressive no matter how you spin it. Keep it up.

Well, at least we got the 125k number from all that crap.

Yeah, I've been thinking about this. One week after launch and MS hasn't released a PR saying how awesome Titanfall did.

PS4 only owners must be very happy, Titanfall 2 is a lock for multiplat.

Most people do seem to be forgetting that we are still in the early adopter period. The real test will come at the end of this year.

I have no doubt the PS4 will always remain top at the current price points but it will be interesting to see how things pan out over time and not within the launch window which we are still in.

I will own both consoles eventually but nice to know more people are picking up the Xbox as it is a great machine despite being overpriced, the bundles have helped it become a better deal and to the people who wanted Kinect it was a fair price to begin with.

PS4 sales up in anticipation of Titanfall 2 (or Titanfall: Uber Edition if EA deems it worth paying whatever "break fee" they have in their exclusivity contract with MS in order to get the growing PS4 userbase on board with the franchise - and soothe over feelings with Respawn who are probably mad that they've missed out on that userbase due to EA going behind their backs).

Anyone who thinks TF is staying xbox exclusive is dillusional in my opinion, EA already must be realizing what a dumb decision that was. How can they take oN Destiny, COD with it being relegated to an xbox only game?
