Titanfall 360 version delayed to April 8th (US), 11 (EU)

I'm wondering if it looks almost exactly the same as the Xbox One version hence the lack of screens.

Do you realize how foolish this sounds? CPUs and GPUs are physics man. A GPU/CPU combo with the power of the 360 cannot output the equivalent of a GPU/CPU combo of the XB1. It simply isn't possible.

Have you see how the XB1 version runs? Not real good. Now just imagine an outside team trying to cram that game onto much weaker hardware.

In total, the game will have been delayed about 4 weeks from the original ship date.

The 360 version is a port, with a different studio working on it. I don't think its hard to believe they'd need extra time.

The Last of Us was delayed 5 weeks last year. And I'm sure there's plenty of other games that have had similar 3-6 week delays.

NPD reports sales of the title on all platforms, if this was really about NPD, they would've wanted it to release in March to boost those numbers.
Is not the delay is the convenience of delaying it just one week before launch... plus the fact that we don't even have a single screenshot of that version, looks like MS doesn't want Titanfall out on 360 right now if they can still sell some units for Xbox One.

Does EA get a kickback from Xbox One sales or something?

Otherwise I can not fathom why people think that EA cares which system the game sells for.

Because they want TitanFall to be a huge franchise. It's not just performance of the 360 version of TitanFall 1 that they have to worry about, but the effect that it has on future sales of TitanFall 2/3/4. People who have a bad experience due to shitty performance on the first game will be less inclined to buy the sequels.

PvsZ got delayed also quite late. EA is doing that alot lately after BF4.
Oh shit, you're right. I completely missed that. About a one week delay for PvsZ. Scratch my "strategic delay" theory: seems like EA are trying to prevent a Battlefield 4 backlash.

I have friends who are not hardcore gamers in the least that know about the 360 version (and are waiting on that version).
Can they tell me what it looks like? ;)

I actually suspect it is bugs / performance issues holding the release back, but if there wasn't plus side to a delay - IE 'We get to sell more Xbones anyway' - then they would have pushed it out the door and fixed it on the fly.

The final build was too good. They need two weeks to remove some features and maps.

In all seriousness, I'm happy about this, March has plenty of games, push it out a bit and give me a breather so I'm more likely to get this now.

Then delay it for more than 2 weeks. They should have made the initial delay longer if that was their sole purpose. I guess they'll just keep delaying the game for 2 weeks perpetually until their One sales quota is met! I'm glad I finally see the logic!

There is no logic, that's the problem I guess haha.

I don't think the Xbox One version looks anywhere like a next gen game. I can see a sub 720p version of the game running at sub 30fps with slightly reduced textures looking very similar on Xbox 360.

We will find out soon enough.

I doubt the delay is sales related, its most likely performance. the xbox one version isn't optimized and since the 360 version is built off the same engine/assets odds are it needs more time.

for those wondering what it looks like someone with the pc version could lower the resolution to 1024x720 and then reduce textures and other effects until it fits under 512MB of memory. that's what it'll look like.

Most people don't even know the 360 version exists. They don't even know they can wait it out. All the while the Titanfall hype train is running hard and fast - RIGHT NOW!

im sure many people do, they've had ads on the main screen of the 360 dashboard for a while.

i think the xbox one sales are very high because of the game and they didnt want to slow it down because of the 360 version ?

either that or the xbox 360 version isn't ready yet to go gold.

The reason for the delay is so much bullshit hahaha.

You don't "make a game better" in a 2 weeks delay...all that means is that the game failed certifications so they have to resubmit it to Microsoft.

Well technically they've know shit was fucked since early February because that's when they announced the original 2 week delay from the March 11th date.

I guess everyone has their own idea of what looks like a next gen game. It looks good enough to me.

But sure, if you're talking a still screenshot, the 360 version shouldn't look dramatically worse. Definitely lower in resolution. Significantly lower, but if you squint it will look similar.

But in terms of performance, yeah, I think 30fps is probably where it's at, and even then it might involve screen tearing, etc.

Regardless of all of that, as I've pointed out for other before, we rarely see publishers showing off the 360 version of any game these days. They show you the next gen version, and then they quietly ship a 360 version too. The treatment of Titanfall has very much been just like it was for lots of other cross generation games in recent months. Nutjobs have just tried to suggest otherwise because they think everything about this game has a conspiracy behind it.

Sounds like they found some serious bug or exploit that would cause problems on release day.
The delay is probably to make a day 1 patch to fix those bugs/exploits.

Either that or the delay has been known for ages and they're only just announcing it because they didn't want the XBone release hype to be tainted with messages about problems and delays (and all the clickbait headlines about "TITANFALL DELAYED" that don't mention the 360 until you read the article).

so a two week delay from 11th-25th, then another 25th-8th? looks like MS has rejected certification on this game twice. is Bluepoint known for delays or failing cert?

Shouldn't the retail discs of a game be in production already, this close to launch?

Even with the delay, that seems to be cutting it very close for distribution.

Not really. They made rather solid ports until now. Guess the modified Source Engine is hard to handle or it could be simply network issues like BF4 had.

Seeing as Respawn aren't handling this version of the game I can see there being problems with optimization. It hurts the brand, but it isn't the first game or the last to be delayed recently.

I'm in with the conspiracy theorists on this one. But I hope I am wrong and Bluepoint is in fact making the game run smoother / or whatever needs to be done. I will wear the tinfoil with pride if wrong, it just smells fishy to me. Go figure!

So you're kind of agreeing with me.

I'm actually glad about this. My gamefly plan is 2 games out at a time. I already have Zelda for 3DS and I'm getting infamous this weekend. With this delay I'll have enough time to finish one of them and send it back in to clear a slot for Titanfall.

So if they cut back on the number of bots running around and trim back some of the ships flying in the sky they could probably achieve something half decent on 360?

EA delaying games for performance issues? Give me a break, it's all about the money. At least it will be a good indicator for actual Xbone Titanfall sales in March and not Titanfall family sales.

Why else do you think they did it?
I wasn't making a snide remark, just saying why it was done.

Occam's Razor suggests a certification issue. It makes no practical sense for any party involved to delay it under the assumption that 2 weeks without the game would make people suddenly jump ship and put down $500/£400 on a new console just to play it. No sense whatsoever.

How bad does it have to be to fail the certification? That's worrying, knowing all the game breaking/glitches patches that get through it.

The real question to ask is why no screenshots of the 360 version?

If it's not on par with the Xbone version then they've nothing to fear, but the fact their yet to show any media for the 360 version does indeed make me wonder it looks as near as damn as good as the Xbone version, and are worried their sales will be cannibalised because of it....

Most 360 owners are expecting a visual downgrade after all, so why not just show them something, to dispel the rumours....

I'm hearing 720p with 30 FPS. Which would be a significant downgrade.

Except it's not about game sales, it's about console sales. They want to move Xbox ones. The 360 install base will still be there in a few months, but they have the opportunity to also grow the xbox ones install base. I'm not saying its a fact, but it doesn't sound crazy to me.
As far as a game being delayed, I get that. But the TLOU delay was announced like 5 months before the releas date, obviously they knew something needed to be fixed.
This game was releasing next week.

Online games are always more difficult to pass cert. Depending on the dev team and QA team's skills, it can take a couple of submission.

I disagree, 2 weeks (or should I say 4 weeks now) is a lot of time for people to see advertising / friends playing it for them to want to get it as soon as possible. This is very strategic of MS but I don't think anyone was surprised by it. Look at the other comments in this thread.

PS. Your Occam's Razor theory doesn't work. I can just as easily apply it to my comments.
