I'd like a new Matrix series done like the Animatrix. That shed a lot of light of the Matrix universe and how it came to be.

For me, Matrix Reloaded was about as good as the original. The weaker parts were definitely weaker (I am looking at you, cave rave!), but the stronger parts were a LOT stronger (every single scene with Oracle/Architect/Merovingian in it). I am looking forward to more Matrix, either as a prequel or a brand new layer's happenings, or anything.

The only Matrix-related story I'd personally be interested in would be something similar to the Second Renaissance.

Totally wronger about Nintendo's business decisions.

Would be so awesome if they pulled it off correctly. That story is insane.

A film about the Second Renaissance would have none of the stuff that made the first film awesome. It wouldn't even have the actual Matrix in it. It would be a standard sci-fi war film in the "real world" and could easily pass off as a Terminator "Future War" film or whatever.

Damn it, you stole my post.

They've already done a movie about the Second Renaissance. Its called The Terminator. Terminator 2's intro pretty much is the story of how the Machines were getting ready to start making the Matrix. John Connor was the only thing standing in their way.

I said a similar thing in the previous Matrix sequels thread. The Second Rennaissance was fine as it was in its vignette format. A feature-length adaptation would necessitate changes to what arguably fans loved about it. An inevitable shift to a character-focused narrative would change it enough to be a different beast. That Animatrix short did a lot in 20 minutes, enough so that our imaginations could fill in the rest of the blanks thereafter.

What makes you think it would be standard? If this is a trilogy, then having The Second Renaissance as the first movie would be pretty awesome IMO. Perfect setup for the next movies, assuming they're all going to be prequels.

I don't see the point... The first Matrix movie was great, the sequels watchable and if you still want more you can watch Animatrix. The only part of the story we haven't seen and would be interesting would be rebuilding the world after the Matrix trilogy. But I don't know... it's not a good place and time for an action movie. We'll probably get a prequel with in-matrix action scenes.

Yeah, not to mention it'd lose a lot of its cyberpunkness along the way. Salvation was terribly boring in its own right, Matrix doesn't need to jack that.

The Matrix is a standalone film. Its plot and story arcs are complete at the end of the film.

Fair enough.

I wonder if it was really meant to be a trilogy. Neo was made out to be god at the end of the first movie. Where do you go from there? So in the sequels that said "maybe he's not a god"

Nolan can't shoot action like the Wachowski's all of his films have had some very dodgy action sequences very 'flat' imo.

The Wachowski followed the Kung Fu cinema filming style wide open shots, no quick cuts the actors trained as hard as they could to be able to do the moves and the wire work which is absolutely exhausting, it's all there on the screen. I want to see that sort of dedication again.

I would like them if they had to choose a director to look at someone like Joe Wright. 'Hanna' had he same sort of ethos all there on the screen, one shot fight scenes. amazing stuff.

Man fuck Sam mendes. Next bond should clearly be made by joe wright. That fight scene with bana in Hanna. God damn

I dunno. Keanu Reeves has aged a bit

Not sure about further matrix films. I thought the first one was great, the second had some cool, action sequences and the third was terrible...and should be struck from the record. Plus tbh, the wachowski film making since the matrix has been pretty hit dire. Cloud Atlas was fucking terrible tbh.

Eh...I don't know, I kinda hope this isn't true. The original is one of my favorite films of all time and I don't even really dislike the sequels that much, but why go back to the well here? Aside from the obvious $$$, I don't really know what's left to say about this world.

You and Sculli both forget that as cool as that one fight was, the rest of that movie's action sequences were a mess.

also, the movie sucked. :p

I find the commentaries fascinating in the boxed set and have been listening to them again. It's shocking they even exist. The critics track gives me a view into their mind set. I wish more movies did this. It's interesting to see what scenes they liked (the merovingian/persephone in reloaded) since those scenes don't seem to register for me like it does for them.

If true, could be cool. I'm a big fan of the first three.

I'm a huge fan of the first, tepid fan of the second and honestly couldn't care less about the third. Although this does intrigue me, as long as they aren't trying to do the typical "remake" or "reboot" nonsense.

Please let someone new direct it. The Wachowskis haven't made a decent film since Reloaded.

They have at least written some pretty good screenplays since though.

They denied the rumors of The Matrix 4/5 in early 2011 when it was falsely reported that they met with Keanu.

No denial for this and it's been several days. Do we take this as a sign that it's happening?

If it were sequels that continued following Morpheus or a return of Neo, I'd be game. The Matrix sequels weren't as good as the original, but I still enjoyed them. They weren't anywhere close to Star Wars Prequel awful.

If it's some kind of Matrix prequel though, I'm not sure I'd be interested.

Oh wow, much more support that I would've guessed. As someone who has seen 2 & (especially) 3 more than I'd care to admit, I would definitely be down with this news. I am completely skeptical and do not think it is happening, but I'd love to be wrong on this.

No. Those old rumors were about Keanu revealing there are Matrix movies in the works and so when Keanu got the chance he clarified all that was false. Keanu is not involved in these new rumors so he hasn't said anything.

But he did say a few months ago he doesn't think there will be a new Matrix movie and if there is he doesn't believe they would want his character to return.

"I don't believe there will be one," the trilogy's star Keanu Reeves told me earlier this week while promoting his directorial debut Man of Tai Chi (in theaters today). "I don't know what the Wachowskis are doing right now other than working on Jupiter. I don't know if they're thinking about another Matrix."

Reeves can't imagine Neo being resurrected. "I thought the way Thomas Anderson/Neo went our was pretty spectacular," he said.

Meh, The matrix movies are all overrated crap.

The first one is an incredible movie. I mean they turned platos allegory of thr cave into a sci fi, karate, suit wearing masterpiece. How can this concept and its execution be considered overrated? So many quotables and memorable action sequences. Youre fucking mad, bro. Insane even.

Say what you want bout the other two.

If they made prequels, based on other failed " The ones" maybe they could end the third film with a morphues watching someone on the computer monitors of the Nebuchadnezzar, muttering to himself something like, "this time i've done it, it is him, i know i've finally found the one" or something like that, and the camera could zoom in to the monitor to show Keanu as neo then the credits roll

And Nine Inch Nails starts to play over the credits the song is Came Back Haunted

Edit (as cliched as it is these days to put NIN on the soundtrack, or trailer i thought the lyrics fitted nicely to the above senario that i described, well to me anyway)

Lyrics to came back haunted

Ha-ha-haunted

The throat is deep and the mouth is wide
Saw some things on the other side
Made me promise to never tell
But you know me, I can't help myself

Now I've got something you have to see
They put something inside of me
The smile is red and its eyes are black
I don't think I'll be coming back

I don't believe it
I had to see it
I came back haunted
I came back haunted

I said goodbye but I
I had to try
I came back haunted
C-c-c-came back haunted

Everywhere now reminding me
I am not who I used to be
I'm afraid this has just begun
Consequences for what I've done, yeah

I don't believe it
I had to see it
I came back, I came back haunted
C-c-c-came back haunted

I said goodbye but I
I had to try
I came back, I came back haunted
I c-c-c-came back haunted

I don't believe it
I had to see it
I came back, I came back haunted
C-c-c-came back haunted

I said goodbye but I
I had to try
I came back, I came back haunted
C-c-c-came back haunted

They tried to tell me but I
I couldn't stop myself and I
I came back, I came back haunted
C-c-c-came back haunted

Just can't
Stop
Came back ha-ha-haunted
[x9]

Just can't
Stop

I'd rather have a "20 years later" sequel where the machines break the truce. Prequels... You already know how it ends...

Keanu Reeves now says he is "always ready!" for a new Matrix movie by The Wachowskis: http://yagg.com/2014/03/28/au-grand...it-admiratif-du-coming-out-de-lana-wachowski/

Machine translation:

U.S. actor Keanu Reeves was yesterday, Thursday, March 27, the guest of the Grand Journal. Antoine de Caunes took the opportunity to talk headlights movies of his filmography, including of course the Matrix trilogy:

If the Wachowski brothers called you for a new component, you would be left? asked the host, which does not seem to notice the image of Lana and Andy projected in front of him. "Always ready!" Exclaimed Keanu Reeves.

Still, Latino Review's news in the OP is fake bullshit.

After 47 Ronin totally cratered at the box office I'm not surprised at all that he's changed his tune!

While I don't think that it's 'bullshit' I do think that LR's news story was jumping the gun. The (potential) Jupiter Ascending trilogy will be the Wachoski's priority for the foreseeable future but I could also see Warners chomping at the bit for a new spin on the Matrix IP just without the siblings directing.

I didn't know Larry had changed gender. I hope it doesn't cause him any trouble. There are still a lot of intolerant assholes in Hollywood.

Can You Imagine What SureAI Is Going To Do With Garfield?
I could go for it. I love the Matrix and Matrix Reloaded. Didn't much care for the last movie but regardless, I love the universe. I'm up for prequels or sequels. It was really a revolutionary movie both for the special effects and for the popularity it receives in science and philosophy. At least for me, the Matrix was the closest thing to a contemporary original Star Wars series. It brought many new and exciting things to cinema.

No prequel please. I find them pointless. I wanna see what kicks off the war again (because you know it happens eventually).

This thread made watch finally Animatrix.

Is there a good overview of the story of Matrix Online? Someone here posted a small part and it sounded very interesting and makes me curious for more. Is there a whole overview?
