So GAF is a hive mind?
He might redeem the opinion of Microsoft for gamers, but the Xbox One's a finished product that's at it's best going to be like a watered down PS4. Not unless he can magically juice that up post-release, and if I could use that kind of magic I'd want it used more on the last gen systems and Wii U anyway.

The goal is this week for air Friday.
I siad this because of misconceived idea that MS lets the xbox division spend billions and billions all willy nilly, but sony must have a similar amount money to invest in the playstaion the company is still making a profit as a whole right?
That does not mean we will not get amazing games on it, that's like saying the Wii has no good games cause it didn't run in HD.

Well. People here seem to have a low opinion of the Xbox. The majority seem to have this though that could change. I think it was the "cool" thing to hate on the XB1 for a while in these forums.

That's odd to say considering Phil Spencer has always come off as by far the most smug guy at Xbox all these years. But at least he is far less pretentious than Phil Harrison.
For now I think Spencer could be okay. If Phil Spencer can't deal with more than the games business then Xbox will be very exposed to disruption from companies like Amazon and Apple. Apple buying PrimeSense and Amazon launching a cloud gaming/entertainment device could easily upend the business with low cost entertainment alternatives. My hope is that Myerson and Elop understand the importance of a broad content ecosystem and will keep Spencer from focusing solely on Xbox games and myopically competing with Sony/Nintendo and their failing businesses.

Great news. I'm glad that other guy is gone then. I forget his name but he wanted to sell off the Xbox division. Having him head the division gave me too much hesitation about the buying an Xbox One. I mean, why buy a console when the guy who heads the division has publicly stated the company should sell the division off? The guy who headed the division didn't even believe in the division.
Or am I mistaken on the matter? I can't follow these stories as close as I used to.

Well, the initial DRM plans were outright abhorrant to people like me, period, as a console is its own DRM when designed and secured well enough at its base, and Microsoft can be awfully flippant about long term support of services. With that out of the way though it was just a bad value: weaker, higher cost, and unlikely to have the games I'd want most that are exclusives. Those things can change though as production makes the system cheaper and they get more games.
Some people act as if it is not even a console anymore. Like it could barely even run a 360 game. When, what is it, like 5x more powerful or so? Hell, the fact that it has more games I want to play is the reason I am buying one before I get a PS4.

Stephen Elop hasn't officially joined Microsoft yet. He's back on board at the end of April, when the Nokia acquisition completes. I say back on board because he was at Microsoft previous to joining Nokia. Originally, he was to head up Devices and Studios, which includes Windows Phone, Surface, and most of Xbox. It seems he's just over devices now, with the software side of things falling under Terry Myserson, who heads up Windows. Phil will report directly to Terry, but partner closely with Elop, according to Nadella's memo on the re-org today.
Elop was never directly quoted, or at least he didn't own up to saying he wanted to sell off the Xbox division. Bloomberg ran a story where supposedly Elop had said he would sell the division if it wasn't a key component to the organization's strategy.
Ask about interesting stuff, like Crackdown 3.

I really don't get it much either. From some of the posts you would think the system is the Wii U when it comes to power.
It isn't the most powerful console within its gen but it will still get next-gen exclusives and multiplats; it's in a similar power position/rank to every Playstation console pre-PS4.

I do not think that is the problem most people have with the xbox one. It is that from a consumer standpoint Microsoft fumbled bad by making a technically weaker more expensive box than the PS4.
As for Microsoft Phil Spencer as the new head of xbox. I hope he does a better job of getting Microsoft's first party output to be better than it has been for the last few years of the xbox 360.

This is a person who stood on the same stage as Mattrick, the Halo TV Show lady, the TVTVTV! guy and we are suppose to believe some major change will happen?
Alas Spencer still deserves a chance, and this is not gang warfare, so time to stop dwelling on the miserable 2013 that Xbox division had and look forward.
Ill be excited about Spencer, the moment we actually see some real change in focus and way the present the Xbox brand. He was a part of Mattrick's team, a group of people that only got a pass in recent years because Kinect managed to do well on 360 and keep the console relevant in especially America, once the wheels fell of Kinect, the brand has looked lame and guided by a bunch of suits.
If Spencer is really serious about changing the perception of Xbox and really washing away all that BS last year, i hope he spends a whole month researching the entire launch of Xbox 360 and realizing what made that console cool and something you wanted to be a part of.
E3 in a few months can be that event to launch a new era...or a sign that status quo will be kept, lets see.

It's pretty damn good at games though. I've been playing Garden Warfare and Titanfall on it and it checks out by my standards!

It's only been out a few months. While I understand the criticisms of the console and do agree with some of it, it doesn't have to be the ultimate gaming device to have some truly amazing games on it. The Wii wasn't the ultimate gaming device but Nintendo still knocked it out with their first party games (plus games like Xenoblade and such). It's not like there's no time to turn things around and with Phil now in this position, it's likely MS's best bet to do so. Give them time or at least E3 to see what "damage" has been done.

To be entirely fair, Nintendo actually have a much, much better first party set up than Microsoft.
I think Phil gives a much more human face to the whole set up, but I don't trust anyone at Microsoft as far as I could throw them, not after what they did. I am, however, willing to have my perception changed and will happily give Phil the benefit of the doubt and hope that he can turn their business around, even if he couldn't really do it with their studios due to whatever restrictions were places upon him. He has a hard job, it's all uphill and I think it's going to be make or break stuff for the XBox as a brand over the next year or two.
Opinion, but the Xbox One is a much better console game wise than the Xbox 360 was during its first 5 months -- especially in terms of variety.
No, I understand that, but that's totally different from "the system is doomed from a gaming standpoint" which isn't true at all.
Exactly. It's just too late for them to fix their hardware inside of the console, & will have no choice but to deal with it for the next 5 or 6 years.

Yeah, I would say that was the point in which the ball got rolling. If I remember correctly, Fight Night 3 came out around the same time and then you had Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter during the summer. Then came Gears of War a few months later.
Yet the console is still going to have good games releasing this year and in the future.
I'm pretty sure many who play on consoles can "deal with it". We aren't talking about PC gamers.

I seriously don't get how people think like that....
Adding to my point, the hardware doesn't stop xbox from having great games. It may not be as powerful as the PS4, but it is still powerful and quite frankly if you look back in time the PS2 was not as powerful as the xbox but it is widely considered the better of the two consoles.
