Sunset Overdrive in next months EDGE

Not to mention I'm actually excited to see the reveal of this game and only posted the downgrade thing because Phil Spencer said he believed the game looked better than the CGI reveal.

Tbh in my point of view, for the art style of this game, I don't think that it's graphically demanding. I've never played team fortress before but seeing the trailer reminded me of that game. So I wouldn't expect a downgrade, but I can believe an upgrade.

I think I'm just representing the facts as they appear and not adding something that isn't there to create some drama down the road.

If he had said, "I saw it yesterday, it's looking better than the E3 trailer", then we wouldn't be having this conversation. He clearly lays out that he thinks it looks better, we can't take his personal opinion of what he thinks it looks like and pretend that's an acceptable standard by which to measure the game-play visuals when they are finally revealed.
The post you replied to just called it a benchmark, I don't think he was being so strict in that, maybe I'm mistaken though, I always think of that term as having a pretty soft knee to it.

Don't you dare change that box art Insomniac!

Not enough dudes with guns on the cover.

Though, to be fair, they did let Olly Moss do one of the better covers last gen. I have faith.

Yeah, I think more people would care about it if it weren't exclusive.

I think "lol, from the makers of FUSE" would be the general reaction with barely anyone paying attention to it. It's one thing if this game had shown significant gameplay with the press coming away with positive impressions. Literally nothing but a small trailer has been shown. No one has a clue how this game is yet it garners this kind of interest after Fuse? I don't believe for a second that this being an exclusive doesn't have some people's hopes on justifying their console purchase.

Insomniac's last game wasn't Fuse btw

God forbid people are hype because a fucking trailer looks awesome

I think you are mistaken. The tone of the post makes it as clear as possible it's a solid benchmark for said poster and even the slightest visual discrepancy will be enough to for them claim significant visual downgrade.

I guess we'll finally find out if ntkrnl was on the level...

In this months issue of OXM they have a small write up on SO. One of the tidbits is a "rumor" that the mutations are caused by an energy drink called Overcharge Delirium XT.

At first I thought the rumor was from GAF, but looking at his quote, its different enough to make a comparison... Maybe Ntkrnl was on the ball.

I'm looking forward to seeing more of this. Between Sunset Overdrive and (hopefully) Quantum Break, 2014 looks to be a good year for XB1.

Maybe. There are elements of that trailer that would be literally impossible, most notably the fluidity of animation and dynamism of camera movement, so even when comparing Phil can't really consider things like that, it's always going to be a muddy comparison.

I think that's miles' point. The poster was saying that he's going to judge the final product by the CG trailer because of what Spencer said. Frankly, that's a very silly thing to do.

Isn't this line of thinking a given for any exclusive title? It's pretty much a given for ANYTHING that's exclusive to something someone doesn't have really.

Yeah, exactly.

No one has ever gotten excited by a great trailer unless it was exclusive, gotcha. I don't think anyone is using this game alone as a justification for owning an Xbone.

Finally, maybe this will make Insomniac be more talkative about gaming again. I miss Jstevenson on the forums. Though maybe he's been in Xbox One threads. I realized the absence of Insomniac love as that dating sim kept getting bumped making me think it was a new Insomniac thread.

I did not know this, guess that's more fuel for the fire.

Yup, which is why I think we shouldn't use anything Phil thinks as a benchmark by which to measure the game and its visuals. It's certainly not going to have as good an IQ as the trailer, it also certainly won't be as visually stunning as the trailer either, especially if they are aiming for an open world game with lots of free running and large hordes of mutants.

It's crazy to pretend that because Phil said it is better that it's now fact, it's just ridiculous and I really wouldn't expect anyone here to take any such claim seriously.

Sweet. I hope that CG trailer was indicative of the final art style.

I don't think people have expectations one way or the other yet. People are excited because, as you said, we haven't seen anything about the game.

It is. Developers themselves have already confirmed as much.

from the makers of Fuse comes Sunset Overdrive

how exciting!

Not sure why people are trying to compare the game to an FPS like Fuse (or even Resistance).

If anything in terms of gameplay mechanics and art style Sunset Overdrive seems to have much more in common with the Ratchet & Clank series than any first person shooter they've made.

I'll reiterate that again, too.

Good to see Sunset Overdrive information out soon.

Did the plan change on how you would show it? Last I heard I thought Phil Spencer said it was going to wait until E3?

Also, can you say anything about whether we'll get a gameplay video or anything with the info?

xbox one only :(

i guess ill watch the game on youtube so

You could buy an Xbox One to play it!

Fuse wasn't an fps...it was a TPS, so it is a decent point of reference.

I enjoyed Resistence and R&C well enough, so I am interested in seeing how this turns out.

Surprised by the amount of hype here on GAF considering the hate that stemmed for Fuse. True the change in art direction did hurt a bit but the game itself was still pretty fun from what I played all things considered. Regardless i'm looking forward to Sunset Overdrive.

Why is there so much excitement for this game? Insomniac has a pretty bad track record spanning several games, yet everyone seems to be ignoring that. Why is that?

That should be fun, sure.

Esports are fun to watch so it could work especially if it's a good spectator competition/survival thing. I watch a lot of Fighting Game Community tournaments, Star Craft 2 (I can't even play that game, I tried), and so on. Look at how popular Play Room is, the people streaming are a bigger draw than the game for entertainment when watching.

Why not give them the benefit of the doubt? And they don't really have a bad track record anyway... that's just in your head I guess. Why must we stand negative towards everything? Why not be excited for a unique game with a huge amount of style?

I'm hyped because of Resistance 3, R&C: A Crack in Time and Into the Nexus. Fuse was a blip in an otherwise fantastic back catalogue.
