NPD Sales Results for March 2014 [Up4: FFX/X-2 HD]

And it was 3.9m to retail at the end of last year. 1.1m shipped in the quarter. As gofreak put it in the other thread, Sony is selling through to consumers in one month what MS shipped to retail in a quarter.

Wait, hold the fuck up.

It's been a quarter since that 3.9m shipped announcement?

And Microsoft has only shipped another million in a single quarter???

Jesus.

TLOU is releasing in a dead period with much less competition. And there's probably a bunch of people wanting a PS4 that didn't have a PS3 nor played TLOU.

The Last of Us didn't get near the hype at its original release as TF just did. It's a nice, yet somewhat bittersweet, bonus for PS4 owners in this age of no backwards compatibility, nothing more.

I didn't expect the PS4 to outsell the Xbone in the Titanfall month in the US. Congrats to Sony. MS: time for panic mode? The xbone is selling well on a spreadsheet, but the widening gap to the PS4 combined with the fact that multiplats are much better on the PS4 is reason to worry. MS is loosing the network effect even in the US (i.e. I buy the console my friends have, which in the previous gen was the 360, it is now becoming the PS4.)

Not that it wasn't expected, but there is a 2 hour 'game' which will basically end up selling between 1-2 million comfortably. Konami must be happy with its performance.

Konami is popping bottles atm lol verendus bro when is FFXV releasing? i feel when that game releases just watch ps4's flying out the window in japan

So again, your resorting to the "because that's what they told us" argument.

I guess there's only one way to discover the truth. Someone will have to take a look at their next quarterly and yearly financial reports and simply do the math. If the numbers add up then we know they're being honest. If they don't then someone has the basis for a truly popcorn worthy story.

You can't be serious...

So, any system seller from MS for coming months?
It'll be funny to see WiiIU out sold Xbox one in May because of Mario Kart 8. I think WiiU is the better second console of choice for many.

It won't take that long.

I expect MS to be at $399 by this Oct/Nov. I expect Sony to want to maintain a significant price advantage for as long as possible. PS4 will be at least $349 if they have profitability in mind and $299 if they're going for the kill.

lol, no.... Sony wont be dropping price anytime soon.

You dont sell everything you produce and drop the price... those days are gone.

XB1 had Titanfall, dropped the price to $450 for the bundle and still got outsold. XB1 doing $399 changes nothing.

Halo 2 Anniversary is the only thing that comes to mind, and that's at the end of the year.

Thuway said that PS4 is ~60K more than Xbox One. That's absolutely correct, guys. Right on the money.

I can confirm that PS4 sold 371K this month, vs Microsoft's 311K.

LTD:

PS4 - 2.91 million

XB1 - 2.53 million

LTD difference comparisons:

November: PS4 is +0.23 million greater than XB1
December: PS4 is +0.18 million greater than XB1
January: PS4 is +0.31 million greater than XB1
February: PS4 is +0.32 million greater than XB1
March: PS4 is +0.38 million greater than XB1

So the gap IS widening.

Don't worry, I'll vouch for them.

Jesus Christ dude, just stop.

You will believe the Xbox One numbers, but not PS4....yeesh.

You all just don't understand. It's a shame. Titanfall is going to slowly build that momentum. It's the next Call of Duty which means it has inevitable lifetime sales of around 20 million. And seeing as Xbox One is the only place to play it (lol at PC like anyone gives a shit), this means Xbox One is guaranteed around 30 million sales (2 out of 3 Xbox One owners with Titanfall is a high possibility). Same can't be said for PS4. It has no games, let alone any game. This is why such a game is so important.

you forgot the 360... but really I just hope you were kidding.

They have absolutely nothing. They bet all they had on titan fall and failed. If titan fall couldn't boost the xbox over ps4, then quantum break, sunset overdrive and and HD remake will do nothing.

That's right, leave the calling out fanboyism to notorious Nintendo-hating Sony lover Steve Youngblood.

Aside from the Cranky avatar, I don't think either of those fanbases think I'm in the tank for their platform of choice. But just to try to fit in, I wonder how it would go over if I put a beanie on Detective Cranky?

Sony won't lie about their numbers. Investors use this sort of data, and if they find out Sony has been fiddling with numbers, than there will be a lawsuit that can cost Sony millions, if not billions, of dollars.
Not only investors, but also credit rating agencies use this information. If, in hindsight, it turns out that the credit rating was supposed to be lower, Sony can be sued by banks and financial agencies (because: rents would have been higher and some banks then wouldn't even loan money to Sony).

It's ridiculous that you are suggesting that Sony is playing with its sales data and revenue numbers. And it's even more ridiculous if you don't have any evidence to back your claims.

Well it's Sony itself that made me ask the question. Why would any company combine their figures and not give their individual totals? That seems like awfully fishy behavior.

As far as I know they did not sort out their PS2 and PS3 numbers for almost three years. And as suggested by an article I posted earlier, they've been doing the same with their PS3 and PS4 numbers since October of last year.

I have been trying to find a source in their financial reports that sorts out the two numbers but I cannot find it myself. That's why I politely asked for assistance from my fellow GAF users who might know more about this subject.

It's not wrong to ask these questions. It's cool to know these facts.

Demon's Souls was never hyped up to AAA levels, the marketing was minimal, it was hyped by word of mouth alone. Heck, pre-release people didn't give a shit about it, I distinctly remembering even GAF scorning its gameplay at the earliest TGS showings. Demon's Souls and TitanFall are opposites if anything.

Yeah, Atlus expected Demon Souls to sell 75k in its lifetime in NA.

Amazing.
If MS doesn't price drop at E3, this thing is screwed, since no exclusives till Q4

It's not only the lack of exclusives that hurts, its the PS4 marketing deals for Destiny and Watch_Dogs. There is already a Destiny PS4 commercial! Stuff like that is huge for the perception of the masses.

I don't usually comment on forums but when I do, I comment on ones like this. Just had to put something on this thread cause this is going to go down as one of the most generationaly epic threads of all time.

On gifs alone, it wins. So, I have to say this. Even with the inevitable relaunch of a kinectless Xbone for $50less than the PS4, there are staunch supporters that will go out and buy a kinectless Xbone just in hopes that it adds to the sales ticket so they can save face for that given month much like how people had purchased up to 6 or 7 360s last gen over and over again.

This is madness. The war is over. Go pick up your PS4, wipe away the tears and partake in the greatness that awaits. We welcome you with open arms.

I've been waiting for a moment like this since 2006/2007 when all fans of playstation were hung high and roasted to oblivion on every single gaming site and forum. This feels pretty damned sweet!

My corporate entity of choice is winning! Hooray.

Seriously though, really surprised to see PS4 beat out XB1 this month. I don't expect to MS on top until fall when more big guns can come out. I really don't see a $100 price drop coming either.

Sony will drop the price. It just depends on how much.

They've got a distinct competitive advantage in being the more powerful cheaper option. Letting it disappear would be folly.

Like that's going to happen.

Sony will easily double Xbox One the world over. And with more passing time, I'm thinking it might be closer to triple.

Pretty much, it's over for bone. There is no comeback to this, none.

Sony has nothing to react to for the rest of this generation.
