Silent Hil: Origins and Silent Hill: Shattered Memories Coming To Vita

Shattered Memories really could benefit from a full port with touch screen support.

0rigins just needs a hack to remove weapon damage and 80% of the toasters laying around. Having my lithe guy lugging around 7 toasters was sort of immersion-breaking.

This is konami, so expect it to be completely fucked up. Not that either of these games were that great to begin with, shattered memories and the piss easy dumb puzzles really annoyed me.

Are any of these titles any good? I haven't played a SH game since SH2. Looking to get back into the series.

Shattered Memories is legitimately good, it is very different from the original formula but worth your time. Origins, as I recall, is more like a retread of the old formula, not especially good execution but if you are looking for more oldschool SH.

0rigins is SH by the numbers, but still good.

SM is.. divisive, to say the least. It's very different, not a horror game at all, really. Personally I thought it was mostly trash, but it has quite a few fans.

That said, why even bother releasing these old-ass titles on Vita unless they're just straight ISO dumps?

I think I'll actually get these.

I really enjoyed playing both Origins and Shattered Memories on my PSP.

Although, I'd actually like a remake of the original Silent Hill using the Origins engine. That game looked great on PSP, so I know it'd look awesome on Vita. And while we're at it, just make a proper SH2 and 3 HD port for the Vita also. I love me some Silent Hill...

EDIT: Oh, it's just the PSP versions showing up on PSN? That's actually cool too. I really liked these. Better than Homecoming and Downpour by a country mile.

Unless its an HD port, I'm not really excited. I don't care for one either though. I'm fine w my PSP copy. But it's nice it's now available on PSN

Did they ever put Silent Hill 1 (as a PS1 Classic) on the Vita store? I remember originally you had to download the game on PS3 and transfer it to Vita because it wasn't abvailable for download directly on the Vita.

Maybe these games were the same way, and Konami is just finally putting them on the Vita store, since people say they already have Origins on their Vita.

I honestly can't check the Vita store myself because it wants me to update my system, but I don't want to fall the the memory card corruption bug and lose my FFX HD save...

To provide a voice of REASON to a thread full of APOLOGISTS*, Shattered Memories is a god-awful Silent Hill game but an interesting survival horror game. Nothing will ever make up for its horrible "action" scenes, but if you can suffer through them there's still an interesting world to explore and interact with. It's definitely more alone the lines of a Gone Home type of experience, just not nearly as good. It's really meant to be played on a Wii, but with my weird love or PSP visuals, I liked what little I played of this version.

(* I still love you all.)

Origins is interesting. If you get past the "it's not Silent Hill 1/2/3" mentality, it isn't bad. It does some stupid things (weapon breaking) and some blasphemous things (letting you switch Silent Hill "layers" at will), but it also does some pretty interesting things. In terms if gameplay, it felt - to me - like the closest thing to a gameplay sequel to the original Silent Hill that we've ever gotten.

You also have to get past the part where it tells a story (the origins of the city) that was never meant to be told.

If I'm picking which I'd rather play, Origins or Homecoming, I'd probably say Origins. To be fair, though, it's been a while since I've played both. Given how stupid I am about partying money with Silent Hill games, though, I'll probably buy both of these to have in my Vita just because. (Though I really need to get around to finally getting Silent Hill Experience one of these days, if that's even possible for a decent price.)

I played Shattered Memories on the PSP and enjoyed it. Nothing like the other Silent Hill games in gameplay but it had an interesting story.

I mean, yeah, by all accounts it's not a great port as far as visuals go, but when dealing with horror games, I'd rather do portable to avoid having to worry about my kids walking in and getting traumatized.

Shattered Memories is one of my favourite last-gen games and my favourite Silent Hill game (despte not really being Silent Hill).

Not sure how PSP version holds up compared to Wii, but if it's your only way of playing I'd say it's absolutely worth it!

Silent Hill Origins kicks ass! Tempted to get that as a PSN download to play through it a 3rd time...

I was hoping Shattered Memories would be something above the PSP version... some kind of more direct port from the Wii version. PSP version was totally playable and enjoyable though.

Ok Konami, now bring us the Silent Hill Reboot! Silent Hill 1+2+3 style with awesome graphics and writers.
Please.

Konami cut the crap and release the definite edition of peace walker on vita and stop being lazy

No one loves and remembers Portable Ops. :(

If these are just ISOs then they might as well drop Silent Hill Experience onto it for like a buck. No reason for it to be selling for over $20 used.

Origins is a "been there, done that" with a manual otherworld transition and more breakable melee weapons than you ever thought was possible.

Shattered Memories at least tried to do something different, but it didn't quite work. It didn't feel like Silent Hill to me. The chase scenes are annoying and the game just isn't scary.

Play Silent Hill 3 and maybe The Room, but definitely SH3 for a new, true Silent Hill.

Oh nooooeeeees, Konami UK why you gotta give me testing flashbacks? We're still trying to get more info about the deal, not sure if this will be international.

Fun fact: one of the endings in Shattered Memories is missing in the Wii version.

Hey man, you gotta spell that out! What is it? Is it present in both PS2 and PSP?

You should have seen the fun bug I got playing SM on my 80GB PS3. In the car, while shifting around seats, it was possible to desync the camera and the character model, so you could look over and see his head ripped open and bent backwards to allow for where the camera should be.

I wish I had taken a picture of that...

Nah, telling outright would be too easy. Gotta give DetectiveGAF something to do. (I will say that the endings function correctly in both PS2 and PSP versions)

There were a LOT of really goofy/terrifying bugs, as you'd expect in any survival horror game, most of the really breaky ones that we couldn't completely squash out had to do with functionality involving the cell phone.

It does have a lot of really great Easter Eggs in it, though.

Thanks for dropping by!

I'm going to guess either the UFO ending, or mousy victim-of-domestic-abuse Harry.

Abuse ending is in the Wii version, and I'm fairly certain the UFO ending is too.

Well that pretty much leaves Drunk Dad, Love Lost, and Sleaze Dad. Anyone attest to getting one of these in the Wii version?

Was excited until I saw that they're just the PSP games. Hell I would have taken even if they just added trophies. With that said hopefully this means someone at Konami will add Metal Gear Acid 1 and 2. Now those are PSP games i'll buy again in a heartbeat.

If you want to play Shattered Memories, I really recommend the Wii version. (If you can find it, of course.)
I've played all three versions, and the PSP one is on par with the PS2 game. So not that nice to look at.
Still, a fantastic game no matter what you play it on.

I've gotten all of those endings on separate playthroughs on the Wii version. Now I'm really curious about this extra ending!

OK man you said you were just "fairly certain" about the UFO ending. Maybe it's that?

Was it the ending with
Cheryl refusing to believe her father is dead?

I remember having trouble finding a video of that ending, thought it was fake when it was first mentioned to me.

Why bother then. Konami's incompetence with this franchise literally knows no bounds. I thought they would at least retool the resolution or something.

Uh, because they weren't available on the EU PSN beforehand? Hence why Konami Europe were the ones that announced this.

I'd probably be interested in them, if there were any chance of Konami releasing them on the NZ PSN. But they won't, just like Book of Memories.

Shattered Memories really messed me up for a few days after I completed it. Superb experience really and a game which even people who don't play horror must definitely play even if it's once. Less said about Origins the better.

I don't understand- I've had Origins on my Vita since launch. I guess it'll be nice to have the option to download them directly from the Vita PSN store, because I had to transfer it from my PS3.

There are a lot of titles they need to put up that still aren't on the Marketplace but work by transferring from the PS3.

Lol, glad someone else played Origins on their Vita; I thought my mind was playing tricks on me. Haven't finished SM, but have the Wii version, so meh.

Put up Silent Hill 2/3, Konami!

Maybe this means a Wii U port in the future!

I'd love Shattered Memories with Wiimote controls on the Wii U. That was one of my favorite games last gen.

Shattered Memories is legitmately not only the best Silent Hill game, but among the best games of all time. It blows my mind that so many people dislike it.

The game should absolutely be experienced on Wii if you have the means, but the PSP version is still better than nothing. You miss out on a huge part of what makes it great - the motion controls (which are among the best uses of the Wii hardware ever) and IR pointer (including moving while looking) - but it's still quite a good game. I highly reccomend playing it this way if PSP / Vita is your only option.

So... just because they weren't available in another region means that they didn't need to do any work to them? It's nice that they're coming to Europe, but this announcement is "coming to Vita" and I expect a bit more than just PSP dumps.

The PSP versions of these games, well at least Shattered Memories is pretty meh and this would have been an opportunity to bring it up to speed a bit especially compared to the Wii version.

Maybe you shouldn't have jumped to conclusions then, especially over something that wasn't even announced for your region in the first place.

I knew this was going to be about the PSP versions as soon as I saw it because porting them would be seen as a waste of time and money for two games Konami really don't care about, as well as the reasons I've already outlined (neither game are on the EU PSN and this was an EU specific announcement).
