(WiiWare) Lost Winds 1 & 2 now transferrable to Wii U?

https://twitter.com/linkvron/status/459880650515169281

There's word that Lost Winds 1 & 2, which were among the very few games that were not able to be transferred from Wii to Wii U via system transfer, is now able to be done so.

I would assume its left behind and is still on your Wii after said transfer. So if anyone has the games, see if it can be done now... if the consoles can even do a second transfer...

LW2 always was transferrable. Weirdly, LW1 was about the only Wii game that doesn't work on Wii U for sone reason.

Fuck this company. 1 and half years after the launch and finally we have something we can call a proper backwards compatibility.

Yea, I can confirm it works. Transferring now...

Does doing a second transfer just for LostWinds affect anything else? Will Mii data be erased and replaced?

Good to see they didn't just ignore this. I imagine, after the Vita drama this week, people are gonna be jumping on this asap.

While we're on the subject, it always struck me odd that many Wiiware titles (especially first party ones) didn't see a rerelease on Wii U's eShop.

That whole situation regarding the Wii Shop Channel is...strange to say the least.

Like, all of this content is sitting there, available to anyone with a Wii or Wii U, but in the case of the latter you don't have an option to boot right from the main OS and obviously there aren't options for off-screen play and whatnot.

It makes you wonder what will happen to all of that Wii VC and Wiiware content. Will it just be there for years to come? Will Nintendo eventually shut it down? Will WiiWare games ever be re-released on Wii U with the added functionality?

To be honest, I feel like those games may be abandoned rather than somehow brought into the future Nintendo ecosystem.

Oh man, way to get pissy over 1 game not being able to be transferred for some reason. If you're going to complain about backwards compatibility, then go complain about how PS4 and Xbox One don't have it.

I was initially waiting for this, but since my WiiU has been far less reliable than my Wii ever was, I'm not so sure about the transfer anymore :/
(Anyway, I need a 3rd game)

Hmmm, I still got the message about lostwinds not being transferable when on the wii.

Maybe it came in with that wiiu security update last month, will try downloading that.

There was an update for the transfer tool on Wii U (downloaded from the Wii Shop) some time ago too, might want to double check that too.

Even PS1 backward compatibility on PS2 wasn't absolutely perfect either. For example the VR missions of MGS didn't work until Sony released the PS2 Slims. Which means it took them 4 freakin' years. And a few other games also didn't work as well.

And then Sony even released Jak X, that had save game issues on certain PS2 models and corrupted memory cards.

Don't let me start on the broken as ass European PS3 "backward" "compatibility".

Great news that this issue has been finally fixed.

I think if it weren't for Virtual Console, there might be a bigger push for this. As it stands, there are ports of Toki Tori, Flowerworks, the upcoming Swords & Soldiers... and is that it?

I can't really see many first-party titles getting a port. The only one that comes to mind is Pokemon Rumble, which has a sequel to push instead. I'd like to think Capcom sees the value of porting Mega Man 9 and 10, though. (They almost certainly don't, knowing them.)

Couldn't you just re-download it? Pretty sure I did but I never bothered to check if it ran since but I'm assuming it would.

Found out what it was - the game itself needs to be updated. So I guess the original issue as to why it didn't work with the Wii U was on Frontier's side rather then Nintendo's.

Downloading the game update now, but it's wiiware, so...it'll take a while.

So All I have to do is go on to Wii Mode, go into the Wii Shop and download the game? I mean I bought it way back when on my Wii, my data was all transferred to the Wii U so I am good right?

But can it be purchased?

Hey that's cool. I suppose it's just downloadable from the Wii Shop in the Wii menu?

To answer these questions, including my own: Yes, it is now availble on the shop over in Wii mode. However, when the Wii to Wii U transfer occurred the license did not transfer over. You will, as other in this thread have pointed out, have to update LostWinds on your Wii and then transfer over again. Or, if you're like me and didn't keep your original Wii after transferring (I am dumb), you can just give Nintendo another 10 bucks and buy it again.

That makes me sad. I boot up Wii Mode of rare occasions to play My Life As a Darklord every now and then. I would love a 60fps sequel on Wii U, would make me genuinely happy.

If we are lucky, games that made money as WiiWare will get ported, remade or sequelled.

But very likely, it's all going down with the Wii Shop Channel, which is unlikely to survive for much longer.

You know what I'd like? If they just ported the games to the Wii U eShop. I remember them being nice looking games. I'd love to play them in HD.

Anyone else having trouble with this?

I downloaded the update, then even deleted and redownloaded the game. Even the transfer tool I downloaded again. But when I start the transfer process, it still tells me that I cannot transfer LostWinds... uhm...?

This would be my first system transfer. I waited for the LostWinds update to do this and finally after all these months they release an update, but it still doesn't work... great.

Maybe the actual update for the transfer (Lostwinds had several updates) isn't out in all regions yet?

It is. It gives me the message in the Wii shop channel and I downloaded the update for the game. Still not working.

On NintendoLife some people seem to have the same issue. It's not a region thing, for some people it works, for others not. In the same region.

Hmm...I hacked my Wii just before doing the transfer so I could back up my save data (like Hell I was going to rebuild my SSBB data), and then I restored it after the transfer, so right now my Wii and Wii U have the same data.

If I tried doing this transfer again, would I experience any hassle, or am I just better buying the game again?

From what I'm told, the wii that you restored the backup on can do weird things if you connect it to the wii shop channel again.

I did the same thing and restored my wiis data to preserve smash, but I also deleted the internet settings at the same time because I was worried something might go wrong. IF someone else tries, let us know how it turns out.

Can you pick what games to transfer? I'd like to transfer LW, but I've since bought some 5 player games that I'd like to leave on the Wii, since they're only max 4 players on the Wii U. Or is it all or nothing?

Can't you connect up to 10 Wii/WiiU related controllers on the Wii U?

Also, no, you can't pick and choose what you want to transfer, unfortunately.

5-8 player games on wii require gamecube controllers in the gamecube ports, hence can't be replicated if you move them to a wii u.

Just successfully transferred it, the only game that was left on my Wii. Thanks for the heads up.

Did the transfer, worked fine. Since it was just transferring the one game it was WAY faster than the previous transfer.

I have a bit of a conundrum. My TV died recently and since I'll be moving soon I've decided to just game using my computer monitor for the time being. I just realized my Wii can't be hooked up to the monitor. I wonder if I'll be able to do this transfer without being able to see what I'm doing...

Wish me luck.
