Persona Q : some details and screenshots from Famitsu

Looks like a journalist at Famitsu got to play Persona Q, and he provides us with some new details and pics of the game.

Here's the info :

- 3 save slots, but you can make up to 16 save data slots with a SD Card. Pretty convenient if you want to get all events.
- apparently, chibi-characters are quite lively and full of expressions, which is something you notice right at the very beginning of the game.
- game starts with a pretty cheerful atmosphere, but things get quite serious real quick (giving you Persona-like vibes).
- dungeon crawling and fighting feels like an Etrian Odyssey game
- they talk about mapping : there's a % on the screen, and when you reach 100% (everything explored), a special chest appears in the dungeon. Apparently, you can also use coins to open the chests if you don't have much time.
- fights are pretty challenging : forget to debuff an ennemy, and you might get one-shot.
- Rei and Zen (new characters) are full of mystery, and their interactions with the P3 and P4 characters are definitely interesting.

Is this the first time we see the map screen?

Edit: there's an event icon, but I don't see it on the sidebar? Will they have auto-icons for events and the like?

I believe so, though it's already been mentionned several times.

Debuffs are actually useful? Even…necessary?
How peculiar!

Yeah, they mention that some ennemies have a real high attack, and your weaker characters can get killed in one hit if you don't use any debuffs.

Still no Hamuko. :/
Yes, I will complain about Hamuko not being in the game in every thread about this game >_<

I'm still semi bummed its using the first person setup for some reason. I personally don't mind it in most cases, but really just don't like its use here?

Either way... queue the take my money gifs...

assuming it comes overseas

haha nope

Would be nice to finally play a Persona game with great gameplay.
provided Atlus brings it to the EU :\

Those would be FOEs and that's very common in Etrian Odyssey. Especially when you come across them initially.

Well, NA release has already been confirmed (Autumn). There's only EU left :(

Oh wow, no idea how I missed that (its called not reading all of the article probably :( )

Sucks to hear EU is getting shafted yet again. Did you guys do something bad to Atlus' pool?

I've heard that SMT games sell really poorly in Europe, but I have no idea if that is true at all.

The Dark Souls of Persona.

Hopefully it's challenging the whole game.

As Magicpaint pointed out, it's probably just the FOE (real strong ennemies), just like the Etrian Odyssey series. But EO games are pretty challenging anyway, so I think there's nothing to worry about difficulty-wise.

I'm really tempted to buy 3DS so I can play this game (and SMT 4), but I live in EU.
:(
Maybe it would be better to just import US 3DS somehow.

Importing is easy, and being from the EU myself I look at my EU 3DS every day and regret not getting a US one.

Make sure to buy the 3DS used as well, don't support Nintendo's region locking by giving them more money.

After beating Persona 4, I'm now converted into the fanbase. So...what is Persona Q? Is it a canon sequel to Persona 4: Golden?

They sell badly because of Atlus's own doing. By the time the games comes out they're already dead everywhere else in the world. Persona 4: Arena wasn't even worth giving us since it's a fighting game and Japan/America already had over a year head start, so by the time it came out it was dead. (It's a great fighting game sure but it's a running joke to so many of the community in Europe). The same can be said for their JRPGs. We get Etrian Odyssey late least year(many months after everyone else) only for them to announce the next one a month later.
Sorry for the rant but it might clear up why they don't sell well. It's pretty insulting and I generally don't buy their games because of it. (Also doesn't help the 3DS is region locked).
(And in all honesty you are talking about niche titles)(We still don't have the latest EO game).

It's a light-hearted Persona 3 and 4 crossover game, with gameplay more similar to Etrian Odyssey than Persona. No S Links and what-have-you.

Yes I can confirm this. SMT4 has sold a grand total of 0 copies in Europe so far. Simply awful.

Ah, that makes sense.

This game is very much an Etrian Odyssey game. I hope that doesn't keep me from liking it, because while I love Persona, idk if first-person dungeon crawlers are my thing.

Using the SD card to add addition save slots. Has any other 3DS game done this before?

I really hope this becomes a standards features on future 3DS games.

The more it's like EO with gameplay the better. I'm very excited but I shouldn't be when it might not come out in EU.

I'm playing through Etrian Odyssey IV right now and loving it. I was a big fan of Persona 4 so this game will be mine.

Way too many good rpgs on the 3ds though. I've sunk so many hours into these games and I haven't even touched Bravely Default or any of the ds catalog. Fuuuuuu

Virtue's Last Reward having only one save KILLS me. I would love this tech to be in more games.

When will they start to talk about the outside of dungeons parts ?

I don't think there are parts outside of dungeons? It's not clear how the character interaction works here, and they keep showing scenes of the cast interacting with each other, but the story description we've gotten makes it sound like the entire game takes place entirely inside Yasogami High after it becomes a labyrinth filled with shadows.

Dear developers,

please put this feature in all your games.

Love, duckroll

Yup.

With the digital version of games, you can simply make a back up of the save. But not with the physical version. Pretty funny how Senran Kagura allows you to copy your save to the SD card directly from the game, but not from the OS.

There might not be S Links but there will probably be optional character events.

lol they made the young girls look even younger

they really know their audience for the persona games

Umm...no they didn't. Or are you talking about the chibi style? In that case they made everyone look "younger".

Yeah, if this retains the same relative structure as EO, don't expect much, aside from side quests and the occasional scene. I very much doubt there's going to be much of a focus on social links, if they exist at all.

What could they do anyway? Given that both groups have all their party members, it'll be a few months in, meaning most players will have actually bothered with the social links. Canon or not, that's a lot of development that they would have to worry about acknowledging, especially given the open-ended nature of both games.

Plus, my guess is that the velvet room will be the hub, while Yasogami will serve as the main dungeon, with no "safe areas." It's kind of hard to build bonds with someone when you're stuck in an oversized elevator.

Basically expect the combat to be more mechanically robust, to the point where it doesn't need to rely on the life sim component, but for that to mean it takes much more of a backseat role or doesn't exist at all.

No waifu, ;_;
You'll definitely get those in P5 and possibly in Dancing and Ultimax to an extent (though Ultimax's S.Link system might not have character development attached to it). Just wait.
