Mario Kart 8 Info Thread

One quick question: there is an option to adjust the music and effects volume separately?

Because I'm really liking the music so far and I want to lower sound effects a bit to enjoy it even more.

I'm avoiding everything about this game now because it hurts so much.
There is literally tons of video and yet we still have 19 days to wait >.<

I'm glad my friends and I are going into this game blind! We only know the full character roster, but are staying away from any track information r videos. Me and my friends are going to have a launch party and hopefully play that Grand Prix together to unlock stuff. Its going to be amazing!

At this point, I know everything about the game, between videos posted here and Twitter and whatnot. There's nothing left for me to discover for myself. My hype has severely deflated as a result, but oh well.

I'm sure I will love playing it to bits, but seeing hundreds of people already playing it, in a complete launch state, for an entire month before the actual launch has soured it a little for me.

Media blackout ftw

I agree with this, the game could have easily been released in mid May, I guess they need it close enough to E3 so they can justify talking about it again for another ten mins at the digital event lol.

Not watching any more videos from now until launch though or it will be totally ruined for me.

also, am i wrong in thinkin the item boxes' respawn time has been shortened?

Correct, well, it feels that way anyway.

Haven't played a game in the franchise since the Nintendo 64 era, but I'm jumping back in on May 30. Game looks incredible. I'm a fan of what I've seen in regards to the Wii U's upcoming releases, and it starts with Mario Kart 8.

Do we think there's only gonna be 32 playable tracks as usual? I love Mario Kart 7 but it got a little bit boring once you ended up playing the same tracks over and over again in online mode (people sure do love Rainbow Road).

Mario Kart: Super Circuit was the best regarding the number of tracks. You had 5 original cups and 5 retro cups, for a total of 40 tracks. That was fantastic.

Question is now DLC.

Probably Nintendo will say something at E3.

There are 32 tracks, we know everything about the game at this point. Unless DLC adds some more later.

Also, I hear that the problem with everyone picking popular tracks has been fixed. From what I gather, the game now offers a choice of tracks to vote on, rather than the entire selection.

Alright thanks, let's hope for that. I don't usually like DLC but I must admit I'm always looking for more content in Mario Kart games.

That's great to hear! That was pretty tedious when the same track would get chosen three rounds in a row.

Voting system in the Wii version was great because you were guaranteed to get your track choice eventually with patience even if its not popular. Popularity voting system from a select choice is much more likely to lead to many tracks never being played online.

Well you got to your track eventually, sure, but not before first playing through Rainbow Road and Wuhu thingy a whole bunch of times first.

As far as I know it's still not a popularity choice, but selected randomly from the choices people made within that limited selection.

Your reap what you sow, man.

I like coming into this thread to see what people are talking about but I've tried to avoid reading too many specific details about the game and watching videos at all. I've let myself watch some of the rather nice GIFs though and I was willing to check out the 30-second Japanese commercials.

Just because the game is out soon and the wait is hard doesn't mean that I need to "scratch the itch" by watching all of these videos that are posted. It's called self control. The idea of basically intentionally deflating your own hype and letting all the pre-release media sour you is...weird. You could have distanced yourself but you succumbed to over-curiosity and impatience.

I have no problem with media outlets having this game way ahead of everyone else. Of course there's some jealousy because the regular folk have to wait, but the plus side is the media are allowed A LOT of time with the game in order to play, analyze, create videos for it, and review it. No rushing to the deadline. Plus, for many the media serves as promotion that actually increases hype as knowledge spreads around.

I will literally buy every retro track they post.

My guess is they have no DLC.

Yeah, I bet there won't be any.

For the one game almost everyone says they'd buy more tracks for, too.

I don't get that. There's only one Mario Kart per system, and it's the one people are gonna play during many months, so it should chock full of content.

DLC for Mario Golf was very forward-thinking for a Nintendo game. But selling new retro tracks for Mario Kart 8 every month would be the best idea in a long time.

To be honest, begging for DLC feels sort of...ungrateful for the full-content game that Nintendo has already built.

That said...I wholeheartedly agree that Mario Kart is ripe for DLC. It just makes sense. It's one of Nintendo's biggest money-making franchises and typically has legs for years. While new customers may keep buying the games, existing ones would continue to purchase DLC.

This is because things like tracks and characters are significant parts of the game and yet are easy to put in "package" form. Not any different than a map pack for an FPS. For a series like Mario Kart in the age of digital downloads, DLC seems obvious. It's something that would make Nintendo money and would greatly satisfy the Mario Kart-playing Wii U owners for a long time.

Wow, I didn't know Super Circuit had 40 tracks! Crazy that it's the GBA game with the most. Here's hoping for DLC (One of the few games I'd say that for).

Wait.. wait...So there's no ceremony after you finish a cup? Just a clip with "your best moments"?

Oh.. :(

I forgot that Mario Kart 7 had them. The N64 and SNES had the best victory screens.

Anyways, I am way more excited for this than 7. The track design looks way more improved. 3 more weeks...

Yeah, most of the tracks got old after 2-3 runthroughs. Wii had more tracks that I liked to replay.

I must admit I'm disappointed that they cut Bowser Jr., King Boo, Diddy Kong and Birdo but added Pink Gold Heavy Shiny Rehashed Peach. I wasn't even expecting my wanted newcomers to get in, but I thought I'd at least like the ones they did add.

But enough negativity, the tracks look fantastic, and I've heard there is a MK8 tournament at my Gamestop soon, so I'll get to play the game then.

There is atleast one track, that I've watched a video of which I wish I hadn't seen. Stay strong! It will be glorious for you and your friends.

played mk7 today and something that really bothered me is when your spectating an online race. I'm mkwii you could choose who to watch. In mk7 your stuck on whomever they put you on. Really hope they're is some options there while waiting for next race.

No ceremony footage when you finish each cup? D: It could have look fantastic with those graphics... Oh well. Honestly in MK Wii/7 the only times I watched the ceremony footage was like the first 3 days I got the games, after that just A button to skip everytime :)
