Mario Kart 8 Info Thread

Is there a stat that shows which vehicles drift inline or do you have to test them out to see?

^I hope Nintendo realizes all these beautiful new locales - Toad City, Sunshine Airport, Wario Mountain etc would make awesome platforming areas in a 3D Mario game
 
Nintendo providing a glimpse of what Mario could be like with a return to "adventure platforming."

Maybe people should give feedback fur MK8 that includes how nice it would be if the locales could serve as inspiration for further Mario games.

Some people put 100s of hours into MK.

If there's one reason to own a Nintendo console, this game is it.

Plus, c'mon there's plenty of other content there for you to fall back on when you've had your fill of MK.
 
I keep wondering if that MK8 bundle will get people to buy Wii U's but then I remember I only bought a 3DS XL because it got bundled with MK7.
 
3D Land and Mario Kart 7 marked the start of the big 3DS boom, so I'm hoping that the Wii U with 3D World and Mario Kart 8 will see a similar rise.

But really, probably not.
 
Apologies if this has already been asked, but does anyone know if we can play with AI in online races? Can I race with a buddy of mine and a bunch of AI racers, or will it just be limited to the two of us?
 
To anyone that can still upload gameplay, can I request that someone record the character select screen music and any other music from the main menu? I've seen and heard it in videos before, but that person did commentary over it and it was hard to hear.
 
Hopefully the embargo will reveal whether the gamepad is required during local multiplayer.

Wonder if you can use it as a map only and have 4 alternate controllers going ... Or if you have 2 player split if you can both use pro controllers without the pad..

It isn't required, I just haven't tested 4 players where no one isn't using the gamepad, but I'll try it out right now.
EDIT: Yeah you can do it. Basically the way it works is, the player that presses A on the start screen is the one who controls the menus, if no one uses the gamepad it can be used just as a map.
 
I hope there are no issues on midnight 5/30. Cannot wait for this game, and I hope we keep alive a GAF KART community for a long time, see you on the track Gaffers!!!

Oh of course, that's why there are already videos out. I thought you thought the 20 minutes limit would expire tomorrow.

Having a get together this weekend and we plan on using chucks / remotes cause I dont have enough pro controllers (level playing field).. Didnt want to be limited by the gamepads battery life (even tho I have an extended one).. so I just wanted to put it on the cradle charging while we all used remotes.. kinda cool you can use it as a map while 4 players use something else.

Can the pad do anything else while 4 players are using other controllers?
 
So many people just coming into the thread, posting videos, confirming details. I'm curious as to what you all actually think of the game. Perhaps I'll just have to wait until tomorrow.

I am curious though, how long have you guys been playing the game? And how long did you have to put together materials, including videos, preview stuff, and reviews (if you're reviewing the game)?

You could have put them up today if you wanted, the "can upload videos but with 20 minutes max" rule has been in place for a while now.

Hmm I think it can either display the map and positions or mirror the TV.

I won't say anything other than it's awesome :P

I don't remember the exact date, but I got the game at the beginning of the month. Played about 40 hours I think, if I had more time I'm sure it would be much more than that.
 
So uhm I'm late to the party but what do coins do in MK8? I saw them in 7 but I did not have that game.
you buy new parts with them or something?
