Woah, is Mount Wario the first point to point race in Mario Kart?
Also, what's the deal with holding a coin?
Nope, Mario Kart 7 has two Wuhu tracks and Rainbow Road as point to point.

So uhm I'm late to the party but what do coins do in MK8? I saw them in 7 but I did not have that game.
you buy new parts with them or something?
No, Mario Kart 7 started that trend.
Anyone knows if the embargo ends at midnight today or 9am tomorrow?
Wish there were more of them. The game looks fun, but after Sonic Racing drastically altered its tracks with every new lap, doing three turns around a never-changing circuit doesn't fill me with huge excitement. Mount Wario looks far and away the best of the bunch as it offers new things from start to finish.
Just preordered at the Walmart I work at. It was the only Wii U game with a preorder card.
In races, they make your top speed faster with a maximum of 10 coins. Outside races, they're automatically tallied up to unlock vehicle parts and characters when you reach certain amounts. So uhm I'm late to the party but what do coins do in MK8? I saw them in 7 but I did not have that game.

Ah, that's the one I haven't played. I guess I should get a 3DS at some point...
I like those types of tracks too. I believe N64 Rainbow Road is one of them.Wish there were more of them. Yeah I understand that now. We only got the game last night so tomorrow morning will do for our videosYou could have put them up today if you wanted, the "can upload videos but with 20 minutes max" rule has been in place for a while now.
Hopefully the game actually keeps track of all the coins you collect this time, rather than the ones you finish the race with like it did in 7.
It would've made getting the last pieces much less of a slog, not even counting the alternate unlocks for the Gold parts.
Hmm I'm not sure since there's no counter, but considering the amount of coins the game says I collected when I unlock stuff, I'll say it counts every coin you collect. I'm not sure though.
Going to play this with the Pro controller!

I thought the same thing until I loaded up Mario Kart Wii and just played with the Wii Remote and Nunchuck ... Just feels really comfy and natural.. Surprised no one else has commented on that.
Wii remote and nunchuk? I didn't even think of this as a control scheme..

An easy way to test (if it still unlocks the initial parts every 50 coins) would be seeing if you get a part after finishing the first GP you play.
Which I want to say I've seen in a video elsewhere, but I can't seem to find it.
You can use it with or without the Wii Wheel. It makes no difference either way in terms of controls. Can you please with just the wii remote sideways?

Can I play multiplayer without AIs? That's what ruined MK Wii for me.

I would have to create a new profile to test it and I can't be bothered. All I know is that things are being unlocked at a steady pace without much hassle, I'm probably missing very few things.

Do you have to pay everything up front with a preorder card? I've been thinking about getting it at Walmart for the free wheel.

Is there a reason why we've never seen anyone going into the left path in the woods? They always go to the right one...
I definitely saw in one video of someone taking the left path, but I can't find it.Is there a reason why we've never seen anyone going into the left path in the woods? They always go to the right one...

From what I remember of it, it isn't much different than the right path.
Hey guys I haven't been paying too much attention to this game lately..any news on diddy?? Last I remember was people saying he's MIA
One of the things many people are complaining is the coin item. It gives you 2 coins... and that's it. Maybe its only use is if you have 10 coins, you can keep for a later use if you lose some coins. I think it should be cool that if you use this when you have 9 or 10 coins, it let you break the limit, so you can have 11 or 12 coins. And even, go for more if you use it when you have more than 10 coins. So you must decide to use it to reach your ten coins or keep it to have better maximum speed.
Any other way to avoid/escape the blue shell other than the horn? Is there a way to outmaneuver it or is it either you have a horn or you're hosed?

Is saw a youtube clip where a guy used a mushroom to escape the blue shell from hitting them kinda like the previous version.
Haven't seen it confirmed for 8, but you used to be able to boost away with a mushroom.
edit: ^^^
Like in past games, using a mushroom right before it hits you...Tho that's not saying much since it's a chore to keep the mushroom long enough without being hit lol.
Using a coin gives you a tiny boost whether you have 10 coins or not, so it's not entirely worthless. People complain that they get a lot of coins in first place, but that's the point, you're not supposed to give a hand to the player ahead, just the players behind.
