This seems awesome, didn't know it was only for PC. That'd be cool if they let some people do some cool stuff under the Final Fantasy name. Like an FF indie game?

That might be too weird but couldn't be any worse than some of the mobile games SE has put out and could lead to some innovative gameplay elements.

Ha. I remember when people were whining about this effort from SE (it was downright embarrassing, to be honest). I'm glad that this initiative is really shaping up to be something that could really positively effect the industry and give big companies like SE a slew of mid-tier published games, with relatively low risk.

For all the shit that SE gets, they really seem to be trying to diversify themselves and their offerings, since their old model just doesn't work anymore in the advent of HD gaming. I may despise the man at the top of the company, but it's nice to know there are many talented and savvy individuals in SE that are looking for ways to positively benefit both themselves and the industry.

I am surprised at the entire nature of this effort. I was definitely one of the people who figured it would be some boneheaded misreading of the way crowd funding works and probably not get much in the way of good games. However, the details actually sound very forward thinking and World War Machine and Moon Hunters at least seem like they could be great games.

Nice work so far.

So someone on my Twitter feed noted the existence of this Toronto ruins artwork from June 2012. World War Machine lists Aaron Beck as their concept artist. Jonas De Ro does list Square Enix as one of his previous clients, so it's possible this is all legit, but his name isn't anywhere on World War Machine's (short) staff list. DetectiveGAF?

Hi - I'm Phil Elliott, project lead for Collective. Feel free to ask any questions about the platform and I'll do my best to answer.

Why are you limiting the crowdfunding campaigns to Indiegogo? Indiegogo projects seem to get much less attention than games on Kickstarter, so I'd imagine that a lot of indie developers will choose to continue with their own Kickstarter campaign after the feedback phase, simply because they feel that their's more money to be made over there. Your deal sounds pretty neat, but at the end of the day the developers need to have a good budget to develop (and finish) a game in the first place, before they can really worry about things like a good distribution deal...

Probably easier to work with, I think kickstarter is still technically US only unless you use an intermediary.

It's a good question, and point taken about levels of funds raised - but there are a couple of reasons.

First of all, Indiegogo allows campaigns to be run by devs all over the place - so while there are fantastic alternatives if you're based in the US, Canada or UK specifically, I know there's a fantastic amount of talent in other areas too. I really want Collective to be able to help those teams too.

And secondly, I believe that gamers are passionate about games - and if they see an idea they like and believe in, for the most part they'll follow that idea. I guess I'd flip the question around a little and ask that if you saw something you thought was cool, is it the game idea that's most important? Or the platform the funds are being raised on? We're here to help with that awareness, whether it's in the feedback or funding phases.

I actually forgot to ask a question :

Is this strictly for western projects or also open to Japanese developers ?

If yes . can you tell if some of them are interested ?

It's very likely they paid him usage rights.

Collective isn't limited by region, so anybody can submit a pitch once we're fully live. But we can only support English language for the time being, so that may be a hinderance. Of course, if the gaming community feels Collective is worthwhile and gets behind it, we'll keep evolving the platform.

We've already gone public on plans to reinvest any profit we make back into Collective - that may be the website, it might be funding game jams, or flying in senior designers to give guest lectures at colleges, etc.

But we'll take it one step at a time.

I'm sorry, but after seeing two co-op procedural games that both look super interesting, the last thing I want to see is a video that starts with a guy in a kilt.

I feel bad for those guys, though.

Fear Effect, Anachronox and Gex are available for devs to use if they see a great angle. But I hope that we'll see some really cool original IP come through Collective. And devs always keep original IP btw.
I just say it's awesome you guys haven't forgotten Anachronox (I'm rooting for a Silvester "Sly Boots" Bucelli rebirth).

The World War Machine team is in the process of prepping for the Indiegogo campaign, which is primed to launch early in May. We'll announce a specific date as soon as it's locked... fear not, we'll be shouting that from the rooftops :)

Also, anybody that voted "yes" on that project when it was in the feedback phase will get a notification email once the funding campaign starts.

Bumping this thread, since my babby junior tag won't allow me to make a thread anymore!

Can someone please make a separate thread for World War Machine's new Indiegogo Campaign, which launched their first alpha Gameplay trailer? Combat looks deep with mechanics and destructability. I'm really digging all the customization and play-style variation.

I think Sly doesn't wanna violate self-promotion, so can some brave soul to just copy and paste his comment above mine, for a new thread?
