My problem is that I don't see a reason to fold it up in the first place. What's the benefit? Faster swing speed maybe? Different attacks?
Fast swing speed most likely and different moveset. Hopefully FROm fixes the situational damage on weapons like this so the damage taken when hit with the wooden bit is significantly reduced. Spears are notorious for this shit and should only do such damage at the blade end not the pole.
Nobody knows for sure yet. Could be an exclusive, could be a timed exclusive, could just be a game From Software is announcing, possibly published by Sony. Mostly just rumors atm.
You can bet this is a PS4 exclusive.

Someone told me that someone said, in this thread, that this was supposed to end Sonys E3 conference and that heads are rolling at Sony.
Also, today will be insane with that ProjectV1 announcement today as well.

A person on 4chan said it (the person who posted the webm). Forgive me for not considering this a reliable source.
The only rumors are PS4 exclusive, not more rumors.
If you didn't want another souls game, then yeah I can understand how that would be disappointing.
I don't really think it's all that crazy to imagine that -most- people who like the souls series want it to continue though.

As far as we know, this is meant to be a collab between Japan Studio and From Software.
Which if it is the case - which it very likely is - then it's an exclusive for good.

Would anyone here be disappointed if, rather than the Souls style character progression and customisation, it revolved instead around one main character (i.e. more like DMC or NG)? Have we got any indication yet as to whether it is one or the other...?
The V1 one thing already happened it was just a Belgian gaming magazine.
Dont want to shit on your parade, but all of our Sony insiders were hinting at a PS4 exclusive and their latest statements leads to this too. Its labled under the SCEJ banner. Of course there is no 100% confirmation about the platform, but I trust Demonite et al and in 10 days you'll know for sure.

I don't know why people would want it to be a PS4 exclusive anyway. How does it being released on a closed system benefit the consumer?
I just don't understand how 4 short gifs exploded overnight into so many pages of OMG HOLY FUCK OH SHIT Even if I was a hardcore fan of Souls (Finished/Loved Demon's, got stuck in Dark 1), I can't see myself reacting this way to something that should have been seen coming a mile away...
The "Hype" that happens at this time of year is ridiculous... it's like people get excited only for the sake of being excited.

doubt it, considering the TGS isnt exactly where they announce titles for the west. Plus with how big the "series" is in the west it would be stupid not to announce it at the E3.

tbh wish this didn't leak. The hype that would of commenced had this been shown at the end of sonys conference would of been insane. ;/

I could be wrong but I don't think this leak was a bad thing and I don't think it was uncontrolled. PS3 and PS4 owners were going to be hyped regardless. Its the people who were on the fence on which nextgen console to get and those the people thinking of getting the repriced XB1 that sony needs to sway .
This will hit all of the news sites today and be talked about all weekend. Then we still have 10 Days till its official so thats a good deal of time for word to spread and hype to increase So good job to Sony for this leak even if it wasn't intentional

Original rumor was new Soul's game made by From Software and Sony. Why would you only believe half of the rumor, like that it's new Soul's game but not exclusive for Sony's systems. That's like believing that Project Nagano from Platinum Games but not believing it's exclusive for Xbone. I don't understand.

Even the leaker said its done by FROM and Sony, as the insiders here saying for months. And there can be no bigger benefit than being optimized for the strongest console on the market. One team working as a whole on the game and there is no lowest common denominator where things like a lighting engine have to be ditched entirely. Gameplay will also benefit from this because the technical borders are relatively low (like holstering a gun in ME3 because of RAM). Sony and FROM have a history, they worked on Demons Souls and were sucessfull. It was the base for Dark Souls like this game will be the base for DS3. The engine and tools will be used for FROMs next game. You see its not a bad thing.
On top of being the spiritual successor to Demon's I wouldn't be surprised if it was a timed exclusive at the very least. Demon's had such a hardcore following I am sure Sony would want that Souls pie all to itself.
This is an extremely short-sighted view, but I guess when no one can play Demon's Souls in ten years, you'll be able to bask in how useful exclusivity is for consumers.
