I can look at that and acknowledge that it's garish as all hell, but I still think it looks wicked cool.

Also, since I'll probably be playing it some time soon, you should drop your settings for the game on me. I'm guessing it's a 4K + SweetFx kind of scenario?

[quote="The Janitor, post: 114148648"]I used sharpening with SweetFX to counter the blur. This is with 4xSGSSAA and a 0.37 sharpening value

Personally, I'd tweak that sharpening down a bit. Otherwise, yeah that seems like a totally worthwhile method to get some good quality out of it.

Do you use different bloom settings than what you defaulted in GeDoSaTo? I keep trying to like the bloom but it seems too overbearing when I play, and in your shots it's been consistently looking totally natural.

Its 4800x2700 resize + custom User.cfg with Render.ResolutionScale 1.5 and SFx. I have always loved this game and always hated the free camera lack.

I don't think I've changed anything about my bloom settings since the last release.

Here's how PC games looked like 14 years ago:

Still looks great too thanks to smooth IQ/AA and clean assets.

Heck, the original Unreal with the current texture upgrades looks downright fantastic

I think it would be better without the SGSSAA personally. It's giving a bit too much blur. If I'm remembering correctly, can't neogaffer tweak the LoD bias to get a sharper end result?

Assets aren't exactly ultra sharp high res stuff. It's painterly. And even then, there's not much.

If it's really an issue, sharpening is a better option with UE3 than LOD changes. Because it can often cause more problems with negative LoD in UE3 games. (Shimmering, causing moire)
Whenever I do use sharpening though in specific situations I never use more than between 0.10-0.25. Only need as much to counter any blur you have issue with. You don't want to end up accentuating aliasing, causing ringing, haloing and other junk that people usually do with sharpening.

I'm sure it motion it looks better than in stills.

And for reference PS3 version
1280x-1

(MLAA is applied before some noise filter it seems like)

These were from 4 or 5 years ago I think. Used with Sikkmod and some other stuff IIRC.

One of, if not the one, my favorite shots from Rivals. Smmmecksy. Screw Rivals no free cam.

So I gotta say, I know you run things really well and your rig is beast. There is something really off with your aliasing. The crysis shots from before and these WD shots, there is a reallly noticeable, and odd looking amount of aliasing.

What exactly is your process to get and resize images?

Yeah, TXAAx4 should remove most incidental aliasing on all things except a few edges on cars. Switching to that should clean up a lot of his shots.

I don't do anything special, just take pic's via MSI Afterbuner (BMP's) then resize them with FastStone Image Viewer, and that's it! Maybe i should use Bicubic filter to clean them up?

Also i used to use MSAx4 before, but now have switched to Temporal SMAA, and it doesn't matter what i use, outcome is still the same. I will try TXAAx4 next though.

Not a 'great' game, but a lot better than those low scored reviews. I'm sure they didn't even get out of the first level or two. Game gets much better as it progresses.

Can be quite tough too. You have to time your blocks, parry and kicks for sure.
