Wait. Project Diva Mirai games. Okay. I just remembered this is personal.

My thought process exactly. God damn it, Miku.

Did something happen in the past year that would make Nintendo any more receptive to this campaign now than they were back then?

Well, the Wii U continued to bomb, so maybe they'll be more inclined to listen to their fans now.
Buttttttt it's doubtful.

I've "RegionLockIsLame" as my Jp 3DS Mii streetpass message. Another user I passed the other weekend replied with "Yes it is."

Just doing my part to spread the word I guess ;)

I suppose the obvious question is: do enough people want this that Nintendo would respond to it? This doesn't seem like a DRM issue, even though it is endlessly annoying. What would Nintendo have to gain from this? Would there be enough good press?

We'd get a celebration on forums and maybe a dozen more imports maybe.

Good luck guys, though I fear the people at Nintendo who are in the position to change this policy probably don't even know what twitter is

I finally bit the bullet and bought a NA 2DS after having a JP 3DS for a while. I have no idea about the logistics of removing the region lock at this point, but I really do hope whatever Nintendo does next does not have region locking. Especially now that they're the only major company that still has it after Microsoft made the Xbox One region free.

I still dun get why the 3DS is locked after GB all the way up to DS Lite were not. It all started with DSi. Is it somehow related to their absolute assbackwards/non-existant online-account system? Seems like the moment they got a digital store they decided it was time ta lock up the shop. Which stinks for me cause I don't buy DD games so like I lost a useful feature all for nothing?

9. Talk about the games you've imported that you wouldn't have been able to play had there been region-locking.
Do ya mean here in the thread or anywhere in general?

What would Nintendo have to gain from this?
Some much needed goodwill!

I totally support this, but I belive this is something that isn't going to happen this gen..

I'm a gateway user and we alredy can play games from other regions, but there is a bigger problem, the eShops and firmwares of the consoles are locked and separated from each other, a region free would need from Nintendo to redesign their firmwares and eShops just for that sake..

aaaaand Nintendo is just too lazy to do that...

He's a pretty swell guy in my books anyway.
Although this doesn't bother me as much as their backwards DRM policies I'm still 100% for it. Hopefully Nintendo will start to see how these archaic restrictions is having a negative effect for them.

Most likely they equate it to piracy. And say what you will, but 3DS and Wii U aren't getting pirated anywhere near Wii and DS. So basically I wouldn't hold my breath for region free, even if their region lock doesn't actually affect piracy in any meaningful way.

This really needs to happen so I can finally buy an Ice White 3DS.

That or these magnificent creatures

We all need Chibi Miku to bring cheer and joy to our 3DSs.

I imported a JPN 3DS just for these games... orz

If all DLC came tied to $13 figurines, I'd consider all DLC to be free
Let's do this, Nintendo needs to realize that they are loosing more than they are gaining with it. It's 2014 Iwata, ridiculous that they chose this gen to implement region lock to their fuckin portables, that's one reason why the 3DS will never touch the DS for me when it comes to diversity and satisfaction.

Region locking is the devil for consumers.

Anyone has any idea/numbers/stats what an impact importing titles has for companies/license holders for different markets? I can imagine this could hurt small companies but not big ones.

Piracy?? But how... what... huh?! How does buying games from other countries equal piracy?

Yes and yes.
Cools, might have ta do that at some point!

I would have at least imported Fantasy Life if not for region lock.
Oh ya wtf even happened to this game? I thought there were teases of it coming west last year an possibly even part of the year before? >_<

A while back ago when my mom was in Japan for a business trip she brought me back DQVII 3DS since she knew I loved rpgs

From time to time whenever I see her she asks if I'm enjoying the game.

I'm enjoying
looking at the box
alright

Can someone remind me how the region free 2013 campaign went again?

As stated in the OP, IGN asked Iwata about region-locking at E3 before the last campaign even started. IGN then sat on the story for a month while the campaign was going on. When Iwata's answer was finally posted, some outlets took it as a response to the campaign, which it was not.

In short, we're still waiting for a response to the campaign.

I fully support this, and will make sure to make a post of Miiverse next time I use my Wii U

I bought a second 3DS to play imports earlier, but still, for the Wii U, I'd love to be able to get stuff like the boxed version of Famicom Remix.

EDIT: Quick question, will my post be moderated if I mention PS4/Xbox One being region free? Should I refer to them as competitors or am I fine calling them by their actual names?

I also agree to this. Idk why Nintendo decided to region-lock the 3ds considering all other handhelds they released werent, minus the dsi.

I'd either support this or have ALL NINTENDO GAMES LOCALIZED

They are seriously having terrible droughts in the western market.

I did some Miiverse posts about it in 2013, and of course I'll make some in 2014.

I find it baffling that in this day and age where being connected to the whole world has never been easier, you need to buy two or three of the same console in order to play any game you want. I own a Japanese 3DS from when I lived there a long time ago, and found out when I came back home that I couldn't play the games I bought from my local store. So now, I have to import everything, and I can never play in my native language unless the game gives me the option (Pokémon and Bravely Default). I can't even set my home country on the 3DS, so I'm apparently from Japan.

It's infuriating, it's anti-consumer, and it needs to stop. Come on, Nintendo.

For the love of god I want them to be region free so bad, still waiting on Shin Megami Tensei 4 in Europe and soon Persona Q, it doesn't get unlocked soon then fuck it I'm importing an American 3DS.

who is PRLRP who keeps commenting about other unrelated stuff in Miiverse? Please stop it so we can focus the discussion on this issue. :=)
