I don't see how Nintendo wins when they're missing practically every major 3rd party game. On sheer quantity and quality, they can't even hold a torch to PS4 and XB. Especially PS4.

Nintendo had the best conference by far.

Nonsense, very little third party support and a whole bunch of fan service ....... nothing to appeal to anyone not already invested in Nintendo.

Mario maker, instead of you buying another Mario game, make your own.

For once I think this is an E3 where nobody fucked up (other than EA, but even that Criterion game looked cool whatever the fuck it is) and I think fans just don't know how to deal with that lol. It's like

"Microsoft sucked! All they showed was X, X, and XXX"
"But I like those games"
"....fair enough."

Regardless of who "won", I think all of the console manufacturers had a very solid showing. I think that's the important thing. No matter which system you own, there's a lot of things to look forward to. That's the big thing.
Very true. It's sink-or-swim time for 'traditional' console gaming so it's crucial all three players are on point. And thankfully they're all definitely on point this time around. It makes all the difference in the world to know what your message is and run with it.

Microsoft refocused on games, Sony showed a wide variety of content, and Nintendo does its thing with colorful, fun gaming that is hard to find outside of iOS.

I think the winner is us.

Don't you dare bring logic and common sense to the discussion.
Pick a side and throwdown!

Disappointing E3 for me from everyone. I'm surprised to see how positive people are and media are on Sony's conference.

If I had to rate:

Sony: 6.5/10
MS: 5/10
Nintendo: 6/10

Nintendo would have been a straight 8/10 if I was not disappointed by X and to a much lesser extent Zelda.

Still, I know there are amazing games coming out for all three so the future is looking good.

Waaaaaay too many "cinematic" trailers that told us nothing about games. If youre just listing games next to one another I guess I liked the Playstation exclusives more, but there was so little gameplay to go off of that it doesnt really matter.

Nintendo gave me every reason to keep supporting their platforms with games that are actually coming out in the immediate future. Release dates, gameplay and the utmost respect for my time. Nintendo "won".

Nintendo took it this year, they showed the most exciting stuff and managed to stand out of the mediocre AAA mess we had to see yesterday.

Bloodborne and some other stuff excluded of course.

Personally, I think nintendo were the biggest surprise and the more interesting. Couldn't really give a definitive answer on whether MS or Sony have a better show. On the other hand the language used in the conferences, particularly Sony's was confusing to someone like me who is primarily a PC gamer. A lot of the content from both is available on PC. I did think the Far Cry 4 multiplayer for non-owners was probably the most overlooked thing. More info would be interesting

This Year: Nintendo = Sony = Microsoft

Everyone performed really well this year. 2015 here we come.

I'm still not sure why EA thought it'd be a good idea to build a press conference around heavily WIP projects.

I think all conferences were a major let down. The only people who lose are the customers, not the companies. We all lost this year.

Seemed like Microsoft and Sony were both very keen on their remastered games being the "biggest" release of the year (Master Chief Collection and The Last of Us respectively)

There's not anything wrong with that, but...Nintendo seemed to have a lot more games. Like, pure new games in the various series. They certainly won me over with charm and the games looked great.

I think we all won.

We saw bloodborne gameplay in the leaked gifs, and it's coming the first half of 2015. A bit different I'd say.

We don't have dates for a lot of the stuff shown. There were plenty of CGI/in game cinematic (non gameplay), and multiplatform stuff shown at both cons. We already knew about a lot of the stuff at both. Indie stuff like Ori, Cuphead, and Inside were among the coolest things shown. Both had remasters and re-releases (some of which were even multiplatform) like Halo, grim fandango, Last of Us, and GTAV. Hell, some of the best looking stuff on both was multiplatform like Batman.

CNET:
Sony hits all the PlayStation 4 high notes at E3 2014
At its E3 evening press conference, Sony strikes hard on all its strengths with unexpected game reveals and updates on its numerous ongoing projects.

ExtremeTech:
Sony wins E3 2014: Microsoft gambled on games, and lost

EDGE:
Sony’s E3 2014 press conference: Greater daring and diversity seal another confident PS4 victory

And I agree.
Sony had clearly the best conference. Greater diversity, etc.

Nintendo's Digital Event was a great shocker (Zelda!!!!!)
Agreed
1.Sony
2A. Nintendo
2B. Microsoft

Nintendo>MS>Sony. Easy and simple as that. Sony was the worst in terms of showing their stuff because most of the time they were "we're perfect, our system is the very best, we have all the exclusive content, etc." Talk about being arrogant, plus it was long and painfully boring at times.

Are you serious? Microsoft is just as bad with their 30-day exclusive DLC, if not worse. If Microsoft decided to spend money on new IP rather than timed DLC, I'm sure we would have a lot more good things to say about them.

I think all of the main three companies had good shows. The best announcement in my opinion was the Halo collection, which will be an amazingly good package.

If I had to rank the conferences, MS > Nintendo > Sony > Ubi >>> EA. But really fans of each console should be happy with this E3.

Edge makes a lot of sense. Who cares about 10 year old games.

The game is the purest form of fan service that just happens to have several of the best multiplayer games ever made in one package. I mean, who hadn't played HL2 and episode 1 when Orange Box released? Add it turns out, quite a few people.

Literally 35+ million people played GTA5 and The Last of Us just last year. And those have garnered some excitement.

I'd argue (and have argued) that remakes and ports are never big system sellers, buy they sure go a long way to making your fan base happy.

He said sony's was more predictable, yet we knew everything already for ms event, whereas for sony they actually had surprises.
Yeah I certainly wasn't aware of Grim Fandango, LBP3 this year, and No Mans Sky being a big part of the conference though there was word of it a few hours before. A lot of the other stuff sure we had a good idea but I still think there was a decent amount of unknown, especially in the wake of early "insider" word that MS was the conference to be hype about.

I'm still not sure why EA thought it'd be a good idea to build a press conference around heavily WIP projects.

it doesn't look like they have anything else. I wonder if they cancelled some shit that would have been further along (and showable this year) when they got the Star Wars license.

I sincerely don't understand all of the Sony love. Uncharted is still uncharted, Project Beast is dark (dawg) souls, The Order looked like nothing special (outside of the aesthetics), there was a serious lack of The Witness/Driveclub. What was in their presentation that would have moved a console to you or your friends that don't currently have one?

This isn't a Microsoft/Nintendo won post, it's just an I don't get it post.

I would rather timed DLC than missions that are completely missing from 3rd party games bought and paid for by Sony (Destiny and others)

The moneyhatting goes both ways

One thing is for certain, xbox will remain behind ps4 in the states. I did not see anything that would shift momentum in their favor. They needed to absolutely demolish sony at this e3, but most of the responses are that they either tied or sony won.

Wait, this actually brings up a good question.

The games MS announced are all CGI, so they're late 2015 at the earliest, Scalebound and Crackdown are likely 2016 (at least, according to ntkrl).

So for early 2015 they only have QB, maybe Fable will ship in the summer.

So essentially, in a year between this June and next, they have:

SO, FH2 (also on 360), Halo Collection, and QB (with maybe Fable)?

Are they saving announcments for early 2015 for later or what?

Nintendo has been killing it today. Hopefully they get their credit instead of being ignored in favor of the typical "MS vs Sony showdown" pieces.

A lot of console players had never touched Half Life before Orange Box. Different situation if you ask me.

you appear to basically be saying the guy is wrong because he doesn't like the same things as you, and then proving your point by listing things you liked.

Isn't that what everyone else is doing though? For the record, I hated everything Nintendo showed except for that paint game. I hated the middle of Sony's conference. MS showed lots of games, but nothing that stood out, hard to get excited about games that will just look and play better on the other platform. MS should have focused on first party.

So for me it was:

Sony=Ubisoft, with Sony ahead if I had to choose just one.
Nintendo=MS, Nintendo needs more third party games and MS needs more first party games.
EA, Other than Batlefield, it was a weak showing.

Everyone performed really well this year. 2015 here we come.

Pretty much this. All three companies made compelling arguments for owning their consoles next year (the Xbox One is the only one I don't have yet, but I plan to fix that at some point..). 2015 is shaping up to be a damn fine gaming year, assuming everything scheduled to come out actually does.

I think everyone did well this year.
Sony needed to keep momentum up and I feel they did.
MS needed to convince people they are learning from their blunders and I feel they did.
Nintendo needed to get back into this fight by showing that Nintendo charm and I feel they did.

No legitimate megatons, but a lot of good stuff for everyone.
2015 is on the path to be a legendary year- even if some late year games get pushed to 2016.

Let's all hug and be friends and be excited for this industry. :}

Nintendo wins by a landslide! For me: Nintendo>>>>>>>Microsoft>Sony>Ubisoft>>>>>EA

Nintendo knocked it out of the park with Zelda, Mii and Palutena, Kirby, Splatoon, Pokémon, and Bayonetta. A-

Microsoft had games galore with no breaks, a welcome change from last year. Only a few things really interested me, but nothing was boring. B-

Sony had some really interesting games, but the non-game talk was obnoxiously boring and there were some technical hiccups that annoyed me. C

Ubisoft beats EA with Unity alone. That's it from them. D+

EA showed nothing that interested me at all. Battlefront wasn't even in-game footage, and half of it was sports. Bleh. F, see me after class.

Wait, Sony was worse because they said "With exclusive content" before showing the trailer instead of having "EXCLUSIVE BETA & DLC FIRST ON XBOX" plastered on the screen during the trailer?

I think Nintendo made a great case to help motivate people to buy their system.

Sony was a bit more diverse if not a bit loose (and that awful TV segment). But there were a lot of things there that can appeal to different players.

MS was very tightly focused on games, but I don't think they did much to convince gamers to flock back to MS.

So we did from Sony with the exception of Grim Fandango ...

LBP3, Entwined (had the name and nothing else), ABZU, Magicka 2, Talos Principle, and Let It Die where all completely unknown until Sony's press conference. Probably a bunch more that I can't think of right now as well.

Sony had a ~20 minute segment where they basically just carpet bombed the stage with new indies from established, high pedigree studios.

Thought they all had good shows. I think MS needed to blow away Sony but weren't able to. And I still think Wii U will finish in third. Also who gives an F about Powers? Who you think won depends on your own bias and preference. But if I had to give choose, I'd give the International house of Plumbers the edge.

Best Buy needs to start listing all the new stuff already so the #gamersclubunlockedmasterrace can save some dollas.

Nintendo brought the goods, MS was well paced, Sony peaks/valleys were far too drastic.

I thought all of the conferences were alright bar EA's which was just nothing

For me Ubi and Sony out front with Microsoft close behind, and Nintendo behind them. EA collapsed on the starting line

Except we've seen clips of Bloodborne and it looks good.

I really don't mean to discredit Bloodborne because yeah those clips looked nice but those clips weren't in the E3 conference and that's what this thread is about. Same for any game. To me at least.

Is that not fair?

maybe its because their system is the best! haha, no really though you know every third party game will be better on PS4 so boil down the exclusives and release dates. I'd say Sony won all the way.

ExtremeTech said:
actual in-game/in-engine footage from two massive exclusives (LittleBigPlanet 3, Uncharted 4)

Huh? Is ExtremeTech saying that Uncharted footage was from in-game/in-engine? There's no way that wasn't CG.
