That's my first time here. I want to get back into anime a bit. I used to watch a lot of them 8-10 years ago. Then I decreased their consumption and now I'm trying to get back into it. I've read the (great) OP and I'm gonna try Space Dandy because Watanabe. I'm looking for epic grand story sagas like CB Bebop (#1 ever for me) or Gankutsuou or Code Geass. The most recent animes I've watched are: K-On, Higashi no Eden (dat Oasis feel), Gurren Laggan, voilà.

From The New World has a pretty solid and mysterious story throughout. Its one continuous series. Not episodic.

Sailor Moon Crystal Episode 1

The trend of this seasons bad first episodes continue with this one being on the same dullish level of tokyo ghoul and glasslip. Only Free! and Argevollen have had good ones (still need to see Bakamatsu Rock and Rail Wars, whenever they go on streaming) . Only interesting thing was Motoki screentime and Shingo. I hope they get increased attention in this iteration of Sailor Moon.

Ending song sounded pretty retro with the instruments, kind of want it instrumental. Visuals for it were terrible.

I liked this last 'video game' battle, but not so sure about the rest. Yeah, there's some funny bits and references, but all this explaining all the time. Either if it's game rules, how they planned stuff or how they managed to win there's always lots of mostly boring explanation. And everything always goes according to plan, even when it seems that they misjudged or didn't think of something it's always "Oh, we planned to do that". Not liking Sora much either because of this, it makes him look like a smug ass, even more so than Keima in The World God Only Knows if I had to compare him to somebody. A lot of the other characters are alright though. My viewing situation isn't optimal, so I couldn't hear the music most of the time (maybe I would have enjoyed it more then?). The OP and ED sounded alright though.

Feel a bit conflicted since it started to get better at the end, but I give it 3.5/8 game pieces:

I agree with some of this, the whole "everything went as planned anyway" isn't really smart, it's more lazy than anything. it was ok in the first games but not in the last one. the shameless fanservice wasn't the only problem of this series, it had some funny moments, nice references and also interesting games. well, except the last game, I was surely expecting something better for the finale than just some "love-love shooter" or whatever it was called, I also felt that they could have come up with more intricate ways to make it interesting and with a better way to end it, that just felt totally random.
also the female characters were, except Jibril which shows a bit of an interesting personality, awful and not interesting at all. their voice actress also didn't help. I prefer someone like Sora that actually has a train of thoughts than someone like his sister where the only explanation they give is "cuz she a geniuz" with some random formula appearing everywhere.

it's wasn't bad after all, I will still watch Season 2 to see how it ends (if it ends next season) and if they come up with some good games.

edit: also I really hope to see real villains in Season 2. not a fan of the "let's be friends from now yaay".

Well, that is how they made Black Rock Shooter TV after all. Imaishi just isn't a good director. Sooner people accept that, the better.

Is this the moment some people should realize of the importance of having a strong 'board of directors' and very experienced like GAiNAX had to provide support? I mean, why not even the always sensible and bonding Masahiko Ōtsuka had this time the opportunity of giving meaningful input during planning:

Otsuka: The Nakajima plus Imaishi concentration is very much higher than TTGL’s. I participated in the Gurren Lagann discussions and had some input, but the director is really running it this time. I felt that he has greatly matured since Gurren Lagann, and our meetings make me only more confident.

Soul Eater NOT ! - 12

This episode felt like a BIg deus ex machina was used , but when you look at it , that's soul eater NOT!

Again ? is it a question when the climax is supposed to start ?

WHY NOT BOTH ?

So yeah tsugumi finally manage to get a blade and overall power-uped a lot .. she is a hallberd that can fly and transport people like a broom , can finally do partial transformation at will and Got 2 partners , so 2 form , Lance AND Axe and a super finisher when the 2 partners are close.

That's DAMN GOOD.


Soul eater not was NOT! great , but it was ok , it was entertaining AND it wasn't the worse animated anime of spring 2014 . In fact it has bad moment and alright moments of animation. And overall the casting was enjoyable and i can forgive ANY anime that provide me with such yuri shippings moments.

I was expecting the worst after watching the leaked stuff, but it's actually good! Of course, the 3d stuff still looks crappy, but at least the other stuff is fine. Hyped for the next episode now.

Now I remember what the SMC transformation (both the 3D and music) reminds me of, Suite Precure, except with worse 3D. Of course, this is done by Toei, but I wish it was done with 2D instead, nothing else is.

Other than that, I think the background art is a good fit, but the expressiveness of the characters is all but gone. Doesn't fit with the tone of some of the characters I feel.

This was a stupid change on a couple of levels. The correct way to fix this would have been for Nui have flat straight hair in the flashbacks, like Satsuki. That way it makes sense for Ryuuko to assume that Nui was Satsuki.

Last ep highlights how problematic the real life shit is in thiis. Can't lie, liked a lot fo the animation in this and I think there's this serviceable fantasy story even without the mmo trappings but the superhighstakesrealilfedrama that accompanies it all is far too much for a show like this. Writing drags this down so hard.

i could have giffed that dream scene but i don't wanna trouble but gooddam if this wasn't great. N.wakamoto is trully the BEST to give a voice to objects..trully a master of his kind.
Best part of this episode was without a doubt the hinagiku part complete with the tease that we'll NEVER see the athena arc fully animated ( Seriously guys ! that's what OAVS are for !! ) but it doesn't matter since the hinagiku curse side story is on screen !!!

I liked the last match because it was finally some action after all the board and card games. Might check out S2 sometime if they actually finish the story in it.

I don't think they've quite got the tone of this right yet (or at least I'm not a huge fan of said tone). Kotono Mitsuishi is screaming her lines like a mewling baby, but Usagi in this incarnation generally looks more like her wispy, ethereal manga self than the chubby wacky version that matches that voice. Bits of it look and sound stylised and beautiful - the dream sequence, the eyecatches etc. - but far too much of it feels clunky and pedestrian. Sailor Moon is a highly romantic and romanticised story and I feel that this should be played up in the animation; Tuxedo Mask standing in the window should be far more dramatic than standing there at a distance. It seems to me like such a high profile property would have better animation due to a higher budget, but perhaps I'm asking for too much from modern Toei

Other than that, it feels a little like the Gus Van Sant Psycho; eerily similar and yet different atmospherically. Is this what it felt like watching the opening episodes of FMA Brotherhood (which I never watched because I liked the original anime so much)?

Well even I can't deny that I have a little history with this franchise. I was in it only to see badass girls doing badass magical things!

But whatever. Everything in this episode was cool until the transformation and the last fight scene. It was then I realized that Usagi would probably continue doing this for a while. Running away and panicking and then defeating the enemy with one shot. I'm not familiar with the manga though, so I might be wrong about this happening for a while.

But whatever, I never cared about Usagi anyway. It was all about the other girls and their elemental powers!
