Is Rogaine/minoxidil a scam?

So I've been using Rogaine Foam for about two weeks, and have lost a lot more hair than usual because of it. (This is an expected part of the process.) It apparently takes 2-4 months for results to be seen.

So it ocurred to me: what if the "results" are just the hair that Rogaine made you lose in the first place, rather than increased hair from before you started using it? 2 months is long enough for one to forget what his hair looked like before the Rogaine-inflicted hair loss.

No, works great for me.

You lose a lot of hair at the start, it's the initial shedding. After a few months it grows back much thicker

Libido can take a hit but mostly only for a little while. And don't overuse it, you'll get way too dizzy and have heart racing.

It stops the hair from falling out, as long as you take keep using it.

No clue but I'm guessing whatever effect it has to by pass false advertisement regulations is minimal due to those with the means getting plugs/transplants.

My father had a substantial amount of hair fall out after a certain age. He used Rogaine foam and it definitely stopped it. He continued with it for years before he just had a hair grafted back on, despite the Rogaine, he was still losing hair slowly over time, just nowhere near as quickly. He's been much happier since the graft though.

You should take before, during, and after pics at least. That would help with the memory aspect. I've read people need 3 months of actively applying it before they see results. I'm not sure it works though, I've never heard anyone personally review it. Good luck, and if all else fails, embrace the bald!

It's not a scam, but the daily regimen is so tedious that a lot of people dont use it properly and dont see optimal results.

Keep your expectations in check, though:

I decided when I was 15 that I was gonna go naturally. I'd rather be bald than have to spend money to rub some junk on my head everyday with possible sexual side effects. Or get some insane surgery.

Minoxodil doesn't affect libido, Propecia/Finasteride does. I've used Minoxodil foam for about a year and never noticed any difference in libido and never read about it affecting anyone else in that area.

Anyway, I definitely don't think it's a scam, though it hasn't thickened my hair as much as I'd like, but I use it on my hairline and don't really need it on my crown just yet. If nothing else, it seems to be thinning slower.

This is definitely in line with what my father had. It was right on his front hairline though, it went way back. Rogaine is basically the last line of defense in my opinion, you're going to lose the battle eventually, but it just prolongs the time it takes before the hair is completely gone. Anything completely bald already is lost ground.

Shave head, grow a sick beard. Cheapest and most awesome option. All the money spent on Minox could be put toward something better.

Like most things, maintenance works better than trying to fix what is already broken. In other words, start using it at the first signs of balding because it's not going to do shit for George Costanza.

Accurate.

Effect is small and immediately goes away when you stop taking it.

The money you spend on it could be better spent on something else that directly gives you confidence to embrace your baldness. Worst case scenario, spend that lifetime of rogaine money on a new closet of fashionable clothes.

...or hair plugs, I guess.

I had to go to a dermatologist for sebhorric dermatitis in my hair and she recommended rogaine for me to counter act the accutane, but she specifically said that rogaine won't regrow the hair it just stops further hair loss. Not sure if it's stopping hair loss in your case at all

You should have done more research before trying it. The product works but varies from person to person. The shedding phase is normal at the beginning and it will take months of use before you notice any differences. That said, if you ever decide to stop using the product, all the hair grown back will shed quickly.

Also for those curious about hair transplant/grafts.
My father's head looked like a newborn baby bird for like a god damn month or two before it cleared up. Sorta nasty.

Like this but a bit more blood dripping down every so often, looked so bad, but it cleared up eventually and the final outcome was great.
You just look like something out of Hellraiser for a while. I'd sooner go bald than suffer that.

Been using this, Finasteride and Nizoral shampoo together for a few years now. It won't give you a full head of hair again, but it has stopped my balding from getting worse than if I wasn't using this regimen.

sweet jesus

I'd rather go completely bald and just wear a baseball cap. And I don't even like baseball.

Right after the graft, you have to keep some tinfoil looking sheet of some stuff on top of using some kind of cream to avoid infections. Crazy stuff, like I said the final outcome turned out well, but he said he'd never do it again lol.

I heard your dick literally falls off and you grow boobs.

But seriously you guys are confused. You're thinking of Finasteride NOT Minoxidil.

Yeah I was thinking of that guy that sued the makers of Propecia because his junk shrunk but a quick google search showed some guys complaining about it with Rogaine too.

I did the expensive products routine for about 6 months before I realized the cost wasn't worth the small difference it made. Embracing the baldness made a bigger difference to my psychological state than any product. Of course, I understand 100% that it can be difficult to accept, since it took me about four years to accept it myself.

One of my buddies used Rogaine and it worked great for the first couple of years but then he got resistant to it or something and ended up bald again.

I'm so thankful the men in my family keep their hair until they end up in the grave *knocks on wood*

Guys, guys, does this product works with a receding hairline?
I'm good at the top, but my hairline is going up and up and up....

I know is part of aging, but I'm only 26.

It does if you still have vellus (tiny baby like hairs) at the temple. If there's nothing chances are the hair won't regrow. It advertises as working only on the vertex but it does work on a receding hairline if you catch it in time. Keep in mind you have to use it twice a day for the rest of your life if you want to keep your results. And as someone mentioned, you can build a resistance to it.

My father used it for some 4 years for a receding hairline. It slows it down quite a bit, but it never really stops it unfortunately. Like I mentioned before, if you're already bald in an area, it's lost ground.

What's the best thing to treat baldness? Is it this?

Minoxidil / Rogaine (grows back hair) + Finasteride / Propecia (to maintain existing hair) is the best combination, but you need to do this daily for the rest your life.

So it's either that for life or a hair transplant, which surprisingly has come a long way and can produce amazing results if you choose the right doctor. At least the latter is a permanent solution, but can be botched easily and are expensive.

I got a bunch of tiny baby hairs in my hairline. I guess is worth a try. I just want to hit my 30's with as much hair as I can. After that I don't really care.
Already married anyways
