In a market where F2P games are king, you decided that a $600 box with at least $60 games (most likely more after conversion) and a paid membership was the way to go?
the decisions companies make..
I got a beat ass controller too. Day one edition. Makes weird noises and the left stick isn't fluid. Idk why they had to f with it. 360 controller feels like a solid tank compared to my weak ass one controller. Two year warranty is nice, compared to our one year. What they don't tell you is that it only covers the box itself, + the Kinect. I have had a broken controller since November (the right stick doesn't work well out of the box) but I waited until Summer to get it fixed. Now I'm told that warranty is only three months for the controller. Oh fine print, why do you screw people over?

On topic. I'm thinking about flying to china and purchasing another xbone. I love Microsoft and want to support the cause.
You're confusing China with Hong Kong, or maybe even Japan. With such small living areas, Kinect will basically be useless outside of voice commands
Every time I press R1 on my XBONE controller, I just died a little inside... and my R2 inpulse function is not working, well I'll take that as a plus. On the good side, the same AA batteryseems to last 3 times as long compare to 360 controller though, that's a big plus.
Back to the Chinese XBONE though, my biggest concern is censorship resulting in region lock only for mainland China. Considering BF4 is a banned title, there is a high possibility Chinese XBONE won't be able to play forign BF4 copies, which may also apply to other forign uncensored titles.
this is exactly what will help the XB1 close the gap with the PS4 by year's end.

Games are said to be between RMB 99 to RMB 249 ($16-$40)
that's not too bad. $40 is probably still too much.
I know the goal is to try and get more money out of each owner, but wouldn't it make more sense to get as many owners as possible, even if you only get some money out of them?
Doesn't feel like it'll be enough. Drop the Kinect for the region altogether and push that initial ticket price even lower might help.

Five hundred ninety-nine US dollar!
MS IS really the new Sony lol
Partnering with an entaritainment company and a large online and retail company was smart idea.
What kind of incentives? I doubt any Chinese really care about incentives, especially if the incentives are games.

Average annual income in China is 51,474 CNY. The current exchange rate is ~6.2 CNY to USD. So, the average annual income in China is $8,340. Thus, the XB1 (at $600) costs 7% of the average annual income in China.
In the US, the average annual income is $52,000. So, to get a feeling for what that 7% would be in the US, it's as if the XB1 cost $3,741.
meh, even if only 1% of the potential buyers in China will buy, that is huge, 1% of 500M is already 5M
Can someone tell me if this is true? Found this on Kotaku:

Majority of Chinese citizens do not have the money to buy a game console. So it's more like the potential buyers are like 5% of the entire population, and then you are talking about the hypothetical 1% of that 5%.
China is not like the US where the majority of people are middle class and therefore makes for a much larger potential consumer pool. In China, you have a small group of extremely rich people (these people would already have the console because most of them have ties to the US, which is very visible in Southern California as housing in affluent areas are all getting gobbled up by this group), a small middle class, and then a HUGE amount of poor people.
Sounds right to me. Majority of my family resides in China and I'm Chinese myself. Except for the major cities like Beijing and Shanghai, most of the citizenry is destitute by western standards.
Due to the culture, the people who are rich and make up the group that MS would sell to, almost always branch out to the US, often purchasing investment properties here or obtaining legal permanent residence through EB-5 investment visas. These people often send their kids here for schooling because of various factors (weather and air quality in the US is better, western education is highly valued, etc. etc.) These people, if they were interested in an Xbox One, would already have one.
MS probably would have been better off partnering for the 360 and releasing it at a low price like $150.
If I'm correct china has a middle class the size of the US population so I am not sure "small" would be a accurate term.
Well, he's not entirely wrong (he grouped both a large part of the middle and lower class as "HUGE" group of poor.)
You're middle class as long as you pass the average annual income of approximately 50-60K RMB. Still that isn't much.
The majority of China's population (>75%) makes under 100K RMB, which is under 20K USD. Those family are not going to prioritize console purchases anytime soon.
Reminder: please remember that standard of living is very different between US and China. Especially comes to food and competitive entertainment products.
A large part of that depends on what you consider "middle class". I make 78,000 yuan a year in china ( 6,500 rmb a month). And I am doing pretty well ( in a teir 2 city of Xian). The problem here isn't really the problem of buying consoles. Its buying consoles at that price. their are plenty of grey market electronic stores all over china that sell these consoles ( many of them pirated) so while the majority of chinese won't be able to buy consoles nor care to their is a large number of people that can.
So Steins;Gate is getting a Xbox One port?

I'm pretty sure on release it cost the equivalent of over $750 in the UK (£450). Even now its probably around $600 (£360) in the UK so the China price doesn't look too bad when looking at the entire package. Took exchange from xe.com BTW.
so around 250m people there earn $20k+?
That's still a huge number to target.
People act like nobody in china buys anything luxury ...
What are everyone's thoughts on the recent China inquiry into MS monopoly practices? Do you think it may affect the launch of Xbox in China?
I guess those talks of MS exploiting a brand new market to catch up to PS4 global sales were premature. This thing is going to bomba so hard in China at that price that we're going to need a new word to describe it.
With PS4 releasing soon in China as well, they should be trying to reach the 2,500 to 2,800 RMB price range ($399-$450 approximately).
