Traps n Gemstones is KIND OF a disappointment for me. But only because I've heard the names "La Mulana" and "Shadow Complex" being mentioned when talking about it. I feel like it's a pretty simple platformer shoehorned into a Metroidvania shell. I'm enjoying it but... its not the masterpiece I've been expecting.

It's really bland, but I'm trying my best to enjoy this about it! XD

After sleeping on it, I'm going to double down on my assertions. The game Deemo featuring the piano rap entitled Jumpy Star is the game of our generation. Holy cow.

I ain't gonna lie, you my jumping star

Guys, did I see something about an iOS game that looked like a pixel art Star Trek style adventure game that's supposed to be coming soon? Anyone know what that is?

If you are interested in Pokemon, Micromon is out in New Zealand, should be coming to US midnight. Saw a lot of beta testers raving about it at Touch Arcade. At 0.99 I'll probably bite.

Wow. Looks very much like Pokemon. Almost offensively so, but I'm going to bite and probably love it.

Does it have IAP though?

The game is great. You have to help a herd of cows go through a level in the shape of a planet that you can control with swipes to the left or the right. I feel the controls have been tested a lot because they feel right and comfortable to use. Each planet will present a series of hazards like baddies, rocks, lettuce and you have to clear the path of those with the help of power ups. There range from meteors to black holes to give two spoilers. You also perform different actions to get rid of the obstacles ahead so it doesnt feel like you are doing the same over and over and there is a lot of things going on so it feels frantic but never overhwhelming. It feels like you are some god traveling space that stood upon cows and for some reason liked the creatures and wants to help them out, and its very cool. The graphics are incredible with all the detailed animations and colorful worlds, and there is a nice drawing after each level showing more of its story. Music is very apt -I am tone deaf so cant really tell-. Everything seems polished. Overall, I am really liking my purchase and looking forward to complete it 100%. Its a blast to play and mostly its fun to play.

It has IAP but its for different skins and they dont interfere at all with the game itself, purely cosmetic and half of the selection available are unlocked by playing. You can have different looking cows which could be great. There is no any other form of IAP. Very fair model as it doesnt interfere with gameplay. Thanks god.

Yeah, I'd pay a dollar for that if it's not crazy IAP for the singleplayer content.

The game features double currency, golden eggs and more kinds of IAP. Sad, since it looked good.

Most likely the IAP is probably very heavily geared toward the multiplayer aspect. I'd believe their claim of the single player content being 100% finish-able IAP-free, unless I read otherwise.

It makes a ton more sense in this sort of game that people who'd play the multiplayer would pay up $100s or $1,000s to get every advantage you can have to win all the leaderboards... but again, that's all the multi-player stuff. Hopefully the single-player content holds to their claim.

Yep. Deep Loot is about as addictive and brilliant as I was hoping. Totally compulsive, loads of charm, plenty of polish. Absolutely essential at the very reasonable price of free. Although I paid for the coin doubler. These guys deserve attention and money!

Played a little of Micromon and so far I'm liking it.

Yes it has dual currencies, but the gems are mainly for vanity items and eggs.

Eggs are used to spin a wheel to get a rare Micromon. You can catch any Micromon in the wild (some obviously more rare than others), but the advantage of the Pokemon acquired through the egg is that it will always have a DR (Development Rate) of 10, while Pokemon in the wild can have different degrees of DR (up to 10). Development Rate is basically stats growth.

That means that a Pikachu from an egg will always end up stronger than a Pikachu from the wild (unless you are lucky enough to find one with DR10), which probably breaks multiplayer. It's harmless for single player though.

One nice thing about the game is that each Micromon is qualified by how rare they are - ranging from common to ultra rare, legendary, etc - and when you find a monster this info is displayed so you immediately know how rare a monster is. With Pokemon, sometimes I didn't know if I wanted to catch one or not because I had no idea how rare it was.

Oh, and the game looks absolutely lovely.

Can't say if the game will hold up, but so far so good.

Dual currencies... fuccck.

And are you sure DR has no impact in single player? End game might get super hard if you have shit mons. Can you earn free eggs to use for spins at a slow rate, or is it purely through IAP?

And as for what I bolded: That's why the tagline is "gotta catch em all"

So good to hear. Downloading now.

Edit: tried to play and I get nothing but a black screen when booting. Yikes.

Playing on iPad now... Meh. Not immediately grabbing me, I've got to say. Don't like the control scheme.

Does the Micromon interface feel nice? One thing I hate about IAP games are how slimy they feel with ads and poor UI everywhere.

Anyone getting 80 days? If do let me know and we can race around the globe! I will post impressions once I have spent some time with the game.

Just got it, love inkles work on the Sorcery games so I just had to grab this too. Barely touch it yet though although the very first thing I did was piss off Fogg by trying to save him money on a train ticket. So good going thus far, I'm sure to make it round the world in 207 days

?

The controls are perfect. Touch where you want to go, touch what you want to shoot, touch what you want to collect. How could it possibly be improved? I spent quite alot of time with this last night, and am totally hooked. I'm much better at it now that I play it more strategically. It's important to remember that everything stops when you stop, so planning is key. It's a really smart move that the developer actually claims was implemented so that if you ever need to look up from your device, be it on a train or in front of the telly, there are absolutely no compromises. You are in control.

And it's addicitve as fuck!

Well obviously I'm not completely sure since I've just started the game. The dev and beta testers promise it's fine for single player though, and so far I have no reason to doubt it.

I did get one free egg, but I don't know if the game will give more.

As for Pokemon, I never felt compelled to catch them all, I usually just get the ones I like. :p

I always find these comments funny to read. Do people really assume that the makers would really say "this game cannot be completed without buying IAPs, so don't even bother trying". Also, as SmokyDave can confirm even the most difficult freemium games can be completed without spending money, it's how difficult or balanced this is, and the vast majority of developers will never be completely honest.

Yes indeed wow. I assumed this was another Gameloft title at first glance but this is more than that. If ripoffs are cool now can someone do one for Rocket Slime already? I need my fix

Blood Bowl is out now.

I downloaded it to my iPad mini, and while I can play as a human team, every time I start a campaign as an Orc team it crashes while loading the first match. Anyone else have a similar issue? I remember it being flakey as hell on my PC but this is just silly.

Nice selective reading there excluding "beta testers".

Usually, when a game has pay walls you won't see the dev claiming anything at all. It's obvious that they won't say "there's pay walls everywhere so don't bother", but most devs won't blatantly lie either, especially if it's someone actively participating in the community and hearing feedback for over 3 years.

You should never blindly take the devs word of course, but following the development of the game, reading feedback from members of the community that beta tested and playing the game enough to see that the mechanics don't seem to lead to a pay wall (and this is fairly easy to detect) is a good indicative, enough that I'm willing to drop a buck.

But whatever, buy it or dont buy it. All I can say is that I'm happy with my purchase so far.

I perhaps shouldn't have directly quoted you, as indeed you did mention beta testers, but it is a common comment which I read (especially on some other websites), and I always feel that some people are blindly listening to developers.

With regards to Micromon, I hadn't heard of it until yesterday but I am now waiting to hear ongoing comments as it does look very interesting.

Anyone else enjoying crazy taxi city rush?

Its a lot of fun, its fast and nice to look at, with many upgrades and different taxis and all, specially the tank missions and the variation within the repetitiveness makes it great. But then comes in all the freemium elements that ruin every game: dual currency and timers, both a big turn off separately but overkill together.

Micromon is alright. I think I'm thrown off by it being a bit dissimilar to Pokemon in formula. In Pokemon I can ignore wild battles and focus only on trainer battles. There are significantly fewer trainers in Micromon it seems, and it seems expected to grind against the wild mons, which are several levels higher than my monsters rather than several levels lower like in Pokemon. Only at the first area though. Maybe there are more trainers later.

Feels like a grindy game though. A bit moreso than Pokemon maybe. But then again I'm focusing on a team of 6 rather than just focusing on my starter. And I've much more experience with Pokemon and its formula.

Oh my gosh, everyone reading must download Deemo and unlock the song Jumpy Star. Thank you Japan, my game of the year is now decided. If anyone needs me, I'll be ticklin' the virtual ivories.

Jump and jump
Why the snow dance so forth
Beautiful things

I can't speak of all the song creators, but Deemo was created by a Taiwanese company.

Actually, it's far easier to gain levels in Micromon, so it's definitely because you are using your whole party. Try focusing on one for a while and you will see that it will gain new levels pretty fast.

As for the trainers, while there are indeed less of them, they are repeatable. Every now and then they will be ready to battle you again, and with leveled up monsters.

The game is not perfect but I'm having a lot of fun with it. It's really polished, looks very nice and the dialogue is humorous (the villains can be quite funny, and they are self aware that they are in a game). I'm actually more engaged in the story than I was with the latest Pokemon games.

Ah. I like the idea of having a solid 6. Though I guess I can focus on two for now. And then amass a team of ultra rare mons. Assuming the rarer ones are better.

And yeah the game is polished. Very pleased with it. Though movement is tricky. Thankfully precise movement hasn't been required.
