Marvel Heroes |OT| GAF Assemble

I might get movie RR just so I can have movie Groot running with him. That nightmare Groot....

If I didn't already own RR and hadn't already gotten him to 60, I'd probably buy it to do my play-through, but as it stands, I'll probably just try his review build out for a bit in MM or some Terminals.

ok got it, wasn't sure if it was anything else

Apparently his animations are a bit different too. I'll try to find it for a bit, I think I saw it on reddit.

Edit: New animations seemed to be new review related and not because of the new costume. My mistake.

Do any other PC ARPGs give the option for level scaling? I feel like that is sorely needed in this. I have a bunch of friends I'd enjoy playing with, but our character levels are never close enough to do so. I wish there was a system in place where we could choose to scale down our stats / levels to play with lower level characters. That way high level characters wouldn't completely overpower all the enemies + it'd be nice if it made the enemies green to them so they could actually get exp and drops.

Sidenote:
http://www.mmorpg.com/discussion2.cfm/post/6415932#6415932 This makes me insanely giddy. I'd buy Janet in a heartbeat if she got into the game.

They're planning to do something like this in the future, actually.

What do people use for Scarlet Witch's primary damage source? I find just using the teleport all over the place is great for mobs, but she really struggles to put the damage down on bosses.

Now that they added extra points, I just dumped them into the seeking bolts move on the left tree. Though the bubble move is not terrible too. ~50k a hit, IIRC 2 times a second?

Nah, she's like Strange and other characters who need to use a multiple skills to deal damage to bosses; SW has no problems dropping bosses like it's nothing.

For my rotation I use: Reality Implosion > Ravenous Binding > Combusting Hex > Chaos Warp.

Repeat as necessary.

Ryolnir mentioned on the test center that the movie costume would get new guns as well (like starlord), dunno what happend with that.

From what I played on TC I enjoyed RR alot more than pre-review (gunner style), mainly due to his new gun options/visuals and the movie costume. Dunno about numbers but they did write this in the patch which is a pretty big give away that he and Starlord were rushed out for the movie release:

Rocket and Star-Lord have had a great week or testing and iteration based on feedback. They will likely have several bugs to deal with and improvements based on data and feedback collected over the weekend. We’ll be playing both of these guys over the weekend (hopefully twerking free) and we hope you guys enjoy them. The fun factor is high with both of these guys.

Hopefully that also means that they will dedicate some time on fixing them in the next few upcoming patches.

Won't be able to play until Sunday but I'm still hyped!

Thanks everyone.

This was in her forum.

Quick note on SW:

We know that Star-Lord's Ultimate Power is like Wanda's Ultimate on steroids and we think that Star-Lord's pretty awesome.

So, I want to say that we have plans to make Wanda's Ultimate also more powerful / cool and will take advantage of Star-Lord's release and get a SW Ultimate buff done in the next week or so so nobody feels bad.

We are still a ways off from the level 52 design reviews, but MichaelMayhem has been working on the design for the SW review for a few months.

Neat.

Oh, btw, do you guys have a veil preference with SW? I use ominious.

Just purchased the movie outfit for Starlord after promising myself never to spend money on useless cosmetics ever against and ended up getting a Lady Loki costume. Thank you for rewarding my complete lack of willpower Marvel Heroes!

Early on sucks. Still debating how I'm going to spec overall but I love using the nades a lot.

I don't think Starlord is actually bad, I think he just needs some of animation/delay weirdness fixed so that you can actually use all your abilities smoothly like everyone else.

I'm still sour on his elemental tree as is. I don't think he's bad either, just feels kinda poo early on. He definitely feels like a crazy spirit hog though.

I didn't have any issue with Star-Lord's DPS through my level progression with him, and I'm at (almost) 40 now with him.
I use the Element Gun basic attack with the wind ammo, and that's the only thing I'm using that tree for. The wind ammo turns the Element Gun basic into a bouncing shot, which allows for a great clear of trash mobs. The initial wind ammo shot also bounces, so you can plan accordingly. I almost never run out of ammo before the wind power comes off of CD.
Otherwise, I'm using the cryo grenade and the spaceship powers, which all deal pretty good damage (and cryo grenade can also freeze).

I had no problem with any boss, whether terminal or Midtown/event bosses, the only times I died it was due to things I'd die with anyone else (i.e. offscreen Rhino/Juggs charge, or unfortunate positioning with multiple AoEs on boss waves in Midtown/heavy damage terminal bosses like MODOK).

That's my only gripe with him - his dash costs way too much spirit.

That's pretty much exactly how I'm building/playing my Starlord, red.

They changed the other one to just give Constitution. I use all 3 toggles, since I almost never actually run out of spirit with her anyway

Yeah, I think that's probably also the only truly viable build atm. So Gaz def. will want to look at making his other trees more viable. Tho the gravity bomb also seems to be pretty decent, I liked it a lot when I tried it out, had an item that granted it at rank 3 or so. If the pull radius of that one would be bigger (doesn't even have to do damage in an extended pull radius), it could be used so well in conjunction with the cryo bomb and the airstrikes.

That said, they really do have to take a look at his animations and those weird delays. Sometimes the bombs from the airstrikes come out super fast, sometimes they take a few moments longer, sometimes they don't animate at all (neither the targeter nor the blast). And I've run into weirdness with using the wind ammo reloading as well, where it stops me for a second.

A character I want enough to spend real money on him day one, and of course he comes out on the weekend I'm moving and can't connect to the internet. The Star-Lord bundle is the standard 1800G's, right?

Yes, it is.

Downloading Marvel Heroes for the first time right now, any tips for a newbie as how I should start?

I'm experienced enough in the genre and whatnot, just more specifics such as character/builds that are good to aim for. Rather not pick something that is nerfed horribly relative to other heroes.

Thanks, will see if I can join up Gaf there too when install is done.

Welcome. I hope you enjoy your time with the game. Well, of the starter heroes, it really depends on your playstyle (ranged, melee, pet/summoner class, etc). You can only pick one, but you will be able to buy more as you play with a currency called Eternity Splinters.

Red Arremer posted some tips not long ago so I'm just going to quote him to you:

Yes. There's a few tips I'd like to give you that made my life much easier in the game.

- Don't worry too much about spec'ing your hero. Put points into what sounds fun to you. You can get point reset potions (Retcon Device) during your progress through the story, and Gazillion often gifts them as well if you want to be more competitive/aware of your hero's build.

- Don't pick up white or green quality items (unless you don't have an item in that slot at all), they're not worth the inventory space. Keep all currency type of items (Eternity Splinters, Cube Shards, etc.), Boosts, Uniques and Relics. Those will go into your stash. If you're willing to spend some money, Gs are immensely useful to buy additional stash tabs.

- Any items you don't need anymore and aren't of the aforementioned type, you should donate towards your vendors to level them up and unlock better recipes/equipment. The leveling is most useful in this order: Crafter > Enchanter > the 2 shops (I picked weapon vendor first cause he's closer). Credits are easily acquired, so selling items should only start becoming an option once you have leveled the vendors all to their max (20).

- Don't bother picking up crafting ingredients (cyan colored). You will be able to get the max level crafting ingredients when you have a higher level hero, and you won't need to craft on the way to 60 anyway.

- Uru-Forged are cool items to have, but only really keep those around you really need. I actually pick up all Runes (the crafting ingredients used on Uru Forged) even if I don't need em, but if you're not willing to spend money on more stash tabs, you might wanna pick and choose later on.

- Once you have acquired enough Eternity Splinters to buy a hero, I'd suggest to pick up the random box instead of specific heroes, unless you really want a specific hero. As long as you have around half of the roster or less, the odds are in your favor to not get a duplicate hero.

- Only play through the story once when you start out. There's benefits to playing through it again on higher difficulties, but it's easier to retroactively breeze through Heroic/Superheroic (and Normal if you have more than 1 hero) story with a higher level than to slowly grind yourself through it thrice. Once you reach Level 20, make doing Legendary Quests your priority to acquire maximum XP gain.

That's about all I can think of right now. Don't hesitate to ask in the thread or in the group chat (once you're invited to the GAF group, if you want that) if there's anything unclear.

Any questions be sure to ask. Lots of helpful people around =D

I'm still relatively new, and all I can say is don't try to understand/learn everything at once. So much of the stuff is for late game/end game character tuning - just pick a character, group with some people, and go to town.

In terms of character selection, I will just say try to pick one that has undergone a 52 review. My first hero was Scarlet Witch and while she's powerful, I found her boring to level. I'm now playing Storm who has undergone a review and has a signature move and she has been so much more fun to play.

Just to chime in to new guy advice: spending your first 175 splinters on a random box is certainly a decent idea, you PROBABLY won't get fucked, but instead spending your first 200 on Taskmaster is also a very solid move. He is a terrific value at 200 splinters, and essentially lets you try out abilities from 4 other heroes.

Xevren did you take a look at the Marvel Heroes MMORPG's site AMA?

I think you might like it. ;)

Yea I saw, still going to be a wait but we definitely know it's coming. Glad I like a lot of other characters. Very happy with Star Lord this week and still have yet to try Rocket's re-work. But man, when Iron Fist comes I'm going all in.

Or if you have extra money, he's also a very good choice to use the BOGO to get with real money

Thanks for the tips everyone =) I'm assuming that picking a random hero is more cost-effective than selecting a hero outright then? At the risk of obtaining a duplicate it seems

He's on the short list for 2015, from what I know. But no real news beyond him being Pym.

looking forward to seeing how they handle Ant-man/Giant man. Also, if it was possible Yellow Jacket would be a sweet alt costume. But me would kinda need different skills though....hmmmm.

With X-23 on the way, will the next/younger generation of New X-men (Surge, Dust, Pixie), Runaways or Young Avengers be on the way next?

They are on the long-term list of heroes and Team-Ups options. Noriko's powers would look cool in game and we could do a lot of fancy lightning animations.

Word.
