That's from the Remaster? Because the shadows are looking great!

Gives me all kind of feels...damn!

You're drowning everyone out, princess.
Really now?

Up-res backgrounds and pan & scan? Oh, wow...

yeah this is indeed just a lazy cashgrab.

It's like the ran the bgs through HQ2X filter or similar, LOL. Looks hideous. Nobody in Japan seem to have preserved their assets from late 90s / 2000s.

looks like balls to me

Man, in my excitement I forgot that this is a Capcom remaster...

with that quality capcom you didnt get my money..shame on you, just a fuckin 480p upscale))) lol

They didn't even bother to re-render their assets?

I enjoyed REmake, but this was like 10-12 years ago when it looked 'HD' to my eyes. Nowadays you can easily notice the compression and in a game like this presentation is important.

Seems like a fast cash grab, kind of disappointed.

And all I did was randomly click page 8. All of these are from a single page, there are a hell of a lot more in this thread. So yeah, shut up.

How in the fuck is that possible for one of the biggest gaming companies in the world? Even my local company keeps more than one backup of each file, texture, 3dmodel, script, etc...

I refuse to believe that capcom doesn't have the textures or the 3d models used to render the mansion, come the fuck on :(

There are numerous stories about how Bluepoint Games, e.g., or the internal team at Konami had problems with the ports of their assigned games. Reading between the lines of interviews with them, it is implied that nobody could find the actual gold-release source files for any of it. So they had to reverse-engineer the retail discs, because the asset drops from the companies were so unreliable.

I suggest it was endemic to how Japanese companies were run in those days.

Others have done just that without an issue. There's nothing stopping CAPCOM, especially given how many years they've had (fucking twelve). I know someone who's found about 90% of the original textures used in REmake solely from the Internet. That's one guy, from fully public sources. You're telling me a company can't do that?

Yep. Albert is actually going around Spain and finding the original architecture used in the RE4 textures. They were all low-quality or extremely compressed photographs with almost no work done on them. Albert is shooting them in high resolution and putting those textures back into RE4 for PC. This is typical Capcom practice. Now, there are probably a lot of companies doing this, but I believe most don't take this to the extremes Capcom's artists do. I mean, given just what Albert has found by himself so far, do they do any actual drawing at all?

HD Remaster:

I can't spot the depth of field effect or Jill's shadow in this screenshot. But maybe it's just a poor quality screenshot.

Gonna buy it, and I encourage all of you to do the same, if only just to send a message to Capcom. REmake has never been a huge commercial success.

I've been trying to get this to run on Dolphin with limited success. So I'm excited to play a tweaked version of this gem. For those who never played REmake - you just saved yourself the cost of the game+GameCube.

I mean, the hate is a little surprising to me. From announcement to release is going to be about 6 months. Capcom is not going to essentially start from scratch on pre-rendered 16:9 native HD graphics for a 15 year-old commercial failure.

What in the hell is this? So everyone that bought a GC bought a Wii u and you are inferring that because they supposedly bought it already they are not allowed to to play it again on Wii u?

What world do some of you live in?

It sold 1.35 million for GC's ~22 million userbase, how much do you think it's going to sell to Wii U's smaller userbase? Especially considering, that horror games, like REmake, RE0, RE4, and Zombie U, have never sold as well on Nintendo platforms as they have elsewhere.

RE4 sales doubled when it went back to the PS2, and RE5 sales more than doubled on the PS3 compared to the RE4 sales on Wii, eventhough the latter had a larger userbase.

The REmake is clearly made for a new audience, and platforms where it's likely going to sell better.

For those worried about the game being cut-off I'm pretty sure it's stated that you can play in both 4:3 ratio and 16:9 correct?

The timing on this couldn't have been more perfect. Was about to play REmake recently and now I can just wait for the PC release.

That sharpening/upressing filter thingy is pretty nasty.

I was super excited for the PC version.. Now I don't know. I'll probably get it when it's sub 10 dollars.

Players are now able to choose not only between experiencing the terror at the classic 4:3 ratio or a stunning 16:9 widescreen mode but also the type of control scheme they play with.

Yeah, I somehow missed that in the OP. Thank goodness!

I actually just started a playthrough on Dolphin a couple weeks ago but I'm gonna hold off on finishing it for this.

Unfortunately, the labs, Neptune area, the kitchen, and the helipad are likely the only ones to come out looking that great. Looking at the other shot from the post you quoted from and much of the other shots in the mansion using soft, yellow lighting, there's going to be some inconsistencies.

From the comparison on the site, it looks like they took the original 3D files and re rendered them at 1080p. As long as they have the original source files, it should be easy to just change the resolution and re-render. EDIT - Upscaling wouldn't reveal the pockmarked texture on the candle holder, it would be a blurry mess.

What a deceptive image. Here is the texture as it appears on GC/Wii.

ArchedThunder has an agenda.

Oh no, somebody has negative first impressions, what a nefarious deed!

Like, this remaster looks like the bare minimum changes, which make the game look really bad. It's not a good port because they fucked with the color and contrast, and it's not a good remaster because none of the backgrounds have been "remastered" in any way.

You don't need a GameCube or Wii/U to play it anymore and it's remastered in HD?

So it really has to be playable on every major console ever released?
Sry but I don't see how all these HD "remasters" lately are necessary.

I played it on Gamecube and on DS

And cut off a big chunk of the original image. Unless that's intentional?

You can disable the cropping and play in 4:3 so that's ok. If a proper remaster cannot be made all I want is the original images untouched. I'll be adequately happy with that.

Shitty upscaling filter... no.. just no.

so are you finished with your "boycott"?

Stopped supporting ≠ boycott. I still played some of their games, like RE4+5, but I waited for the prices to be halved, at least. Now, that the game which started it all is coming back home, I have no reason to pass on playing it.

ArchedThunder has an agenda.

From what I gathered, his agenda is to have a better class of remasters for everyone. I understand and symphatize with both sides of the argument. To have what is perhaps the best resident evil game ever made on our modern and relevant consoles so that we can once again enjoy this classic is a great notion. Then again, 40 bucks isn't exactly cheap and since this is a remaster and not a remake, the graphics are the selling point and so far they don't really impress.
