Rise of the Tomb Raider timed Xbox exclusive for Holiday 2015 (No PS/PC, SE publish)

Because that's never happened before...

There was a Mass Effect 1 for Sony?

Sony fanboys are so salty right now, this would be a whole different thread if it was a PS4 exclusive instead (Don't get me wrong, MS fanboys would just be the salty ones instead if that was the case) "That's okay, we have Uncharted 4" would be "YESOMGLOL WE HAZ UC4 AND RotTR!"

Fanboyz, looo0ooool!

Is there even a franchise on the Xbox platform that has been there since the OG Xbox besides exclusives like Halo?

Don't think there is a real comparison possible here. Tomb Raider has always been on the Playstation brand.

You can expect hatred and fire from this sort of announcement.

Consider this:

SE probably feels that Tomb Raider vs Uncharted 4 releasing at the same time on PS4 would be a sales slaughter in favor of UC4. Why not take money from MS for a timed exclusive, then try to pick up PS4 owners after they've already played through UC4? Win/win for SE.

People saying this was a bad deal for SE. Uncharted 4 is what was the bad deal for SE. They were going to get slaughtered in 2015 regardless of timed exclusivity. This way they get to save face and release on PS4 without competition in the same genre.

This is an entertaining hypothesis!

Microsoft moneyhats a game from appearing on another console. As for the second part, ill be selective: Sony gets exclusive Japanese games because the Xbox sells like crap in Japan.

That's a very candid and innocent point of view. :D

No.

And in appreciation of that support you're going to lock %50 of your supporters out of your next title.

With the exception of places where the PS4 is and the X1 isn't there's no lock on anyone playing this game. It's easy to get the means, and it'll probably come out eventually elsewhere. Simmer down now.

I didn't know I was going to dine on fanboy tears all today, but here we are.

They are...delectable.

So if you are a PC-only gamer, or a PS4-only gamer, you are automatically a fanboy?
Because you are "hurting" these people by cockblocking the new Tomb Raider.

But if I'm an Xbox-only player I'm automatically a fanboy because.....

The only people "hurting" (talk about first world problems) are the fanboys in this thread who either already own an Xbox One (which I call bullshit on) but won't buy the game because of principles (which is fanboy bias) or are being pushed away from the system even more now that the system has a game they want to play (which is more bullshit fanboy bias).

Well, it's a new Xbox division so maybe that historical precedent doesn't apply? SE seems to be incompetent and MS is still shedding its scent of desperation. But if I'm wrong and they did pay all that money (to a publisher who viewed 7 millions copies as something other than a great success), why not just create a new first-party game interal-- oh, wait.

Well they are coming up with first party stuff like Scalebound. So if they have the extra cash, why not go after a major IP especially if Square Enix was offering to sell it for some low number?

Yeesh. That's potentially a great grab for next year's holiday season; I say potentially because we don't know how the game will actually turn out (I really enjoyed the first one).

Still, with exclusives like Bloodborne, and to a lesser extent The Order, hitting next year, you had to feel like MS needed a headline grabber with a top shelf brand. Looks like they got it. I'm really surprised SE went the exclusive route-- even if it turns out to be timed-- seeing as how it didn't really pan out for EA and Titanfall.

In the end, it's good news for Xbox One owners. I'm genuinely happy some of you are super excited about this.

Wait, do they really think tomb raider is a console mover? I mean that reboot was legit and I even double dipped on the remaster, but console mover it is not.

Just stop. No one needs that drivel. There's no salt; its a discussion on the bizarre choice by SE to alienate millions of potential customers simply because MS threw a lot of money in their direction.

If Titanfall didn't boost Xb1 sales by that much, I can't really see how Tomb Raider would ... Especially with the PS4 getting Uncharted 4 around the same time.

I don't know why people focus on "Sony fans".

As a Tomb Raider fan I'm not happy with this decision because it's going to cripple the series sales, it was going to become huge hit after the reboot, but by making the sequel exclusive and shunning away the biggest fanbase it's only going to bite them in the ass. It's a step back, it pisses of fans who own PS4 and PCs and they will lose interest in the series (especially the casual fans).
When FFXIII was announced for X360 I was happy because it meant more people were going to play the game, on the other hand RoTR not being on PS4/PC means less people are going to play the game.

It's not about being a fan of this or that console, it's about being a fan of the franchise, there's a reason a lot of people are angry over all the Tomb Raider fansites, especially when they bought the Definitive Version to support the sequel.

Horrible.

Hopefully at least it will be out on PC by 2016.

Must of been a lot of cash to convince SE to make this exclusive.

Mass Effect gets thrown around every time Microsoft gets a 3rd party exclusive.

These game journalists who love their click bait are just being vague on purpose because when they're vague and also hint that their information may not be exactly correct or what their information even means, people interpret it in many ways, argue with each other, and all blame for incorrect information and assumption is not blamed on the so called journalist, but their vague info. That same information will also be praised if it turns out to be true in any way, then somehow they'll become an insider or a trusted source themselves when they really know jack shit.

I'm out until Crystal Dynamics, or Microsoft say something more themselves.

Wow. Didn't think I'd see some of these meltdowns over...Tomb Raider?!

Pretty glad I own both systems. Will play this and Uncharted in 2015 for sure.

You guys are embarrassing yourselves. It's most likely timed. If you don't like missing out on games then you have to buy all consoles and platforms.

This is going to be a common problem this generation. Many have gone over to PS4 thinking Xbox was going down in flames and suddenly The X1 is running full speed with updates, features, and exclusives. Like games? Don't want to miss out? Buy all the consoles. MS is fully invested in Xbox and they're going to stop making, publishing and investing in games.

Lol, take Destiny for example: PS exclusive in Japan, probably because the XBO isn't even out there, and the X360 has sold like 1.6m units.
So it's not a candid and innocent point of view, it's fact.

Let me understand, please, because this is going to be REALLY interesting: so you think that a game like Deep Down is developed just for Japan?
