Witcher 3 Will Not Use Any Special Graphical Features of PS4 & Xbox One, Will Not Use Hardware MSAA

"CD Projekt are trying to deliver the same experience across the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Despite their similarities, the PS4 and Xbox One do have some decidedly unique hardware features.

How will CD Projek be taking advantage of the PS4′s unified GDDR5 memory architecture and whether they will be developing specific graphical features which they might have found to be possible only on the PS4?"

They won't.

"We always want to provide the best possible experience to all our gamers regardless of the platform and so we are not aiming to develop special graphical features for any of them,” Balazs Torok, Lead Engine Programmer said to GamingBolt."

Good guy CDP or something else? Are we to see more of this with AAA titles?

You can expect higher res and better texture quality on PS4 tho, if previous multiplats are any indication.

I think it just means they're not going to bother using the special features of either console i.e. using the ESRAM to it's fullest, etc

Contradiction much...

Seems less good guy and more like short changing everyone. It kind of reads like "We don't want to take the time to optimize for any platform." Doesn't exactly inspire a lot of confidence.

To be fair even games without the so called 'parity' don't have 'special graphical features' for the PS4 over the Xbox One. They may have the same graphical feature running at a higher quality (which for certain things is a simple thing to implement) and better framerate probably wouldn't be called a 'special graphical feature' either.

That doesn't even make sense

"We always want to provide the best possible experience to all gamers, except the gamers that are on the more powerful console, because we don't want to hurt the feelings of Xbox One owners."

Absurdity. Even still, watch the Digital Foundry comparisons and neoGAF comparisons when it comes out and see what the truth is.

Perhaps this could legit be a new thing going forward in the games industry. Not paid exclusive rights, not bonus or timed exclusive content, but paid parity. I certainly wouldn't put it past Microsoft, at this point, with their lackadaisical and misleading PR speak.

If the PS4 version runs the same as the Xbone version, then that means the PS4 version is purposely gimped.

And not a single potential buyer gives enough of a fuck to even consider not buying The Witcher 3 on PS4.

You never know. Just recall the people who canceled their PS4 pre-orders of Watch Doggies because it broke the "1080p streak" lol

I'll wait and see. I'd guess being in a partnership of sorts with MS might restrict how much press lovin' they can give the PS4.

Well lots of people will give enough of a fuck to buy it on PC instead.
I don't have the pc option, then again I don't have the option of the version that isn't compromised for parity so I'll hold that and get it anyway. Though I haven't played the first 2.

You think more developers will choose not to make the game look better on the better selling console just because?

I think devs want both consoles to look and play the same. So when they get the Xbone to look like the Ps4 version, I don't think they are going to go back and push the Ps4 to its max..

Exactly! They don't want to provide the best experience.

They just want to provide the best experience that only one of the two consoles can afford.

That is straight up fallacious BS!

Has any developer ever actually take advantage of PS4's hardware to develop special graphical features?

Because improved AA, slightly sharper textures, and more stable framerates as we see with multiplats aren't special features, they're just a result of better hardware.

Well I'm getting it on PC, they only reason i'm even considering the PS4 version is for Remote Play (yes I know you can remote play on PC now too)

PC Master Race is the savior of all. Edit: Sorry, didn't remember this was banned.

It is known.

I guess it depends on what we're defining as "special" in this case. There are certainly more than a few PS4 games that have effects in place that the XBO does not, that go beyond mere resolution, AA and framerates.

Fixed that difficult sentence for him.

I think he got a bit confused about what parity offers, not the best for each platform but the same.

thankfully i'm not a PC master race person, and my god I hate that term, for me its a simple case of I own 1 and 2 on pc already. I have no interest in Nvidia Shield. Already have a Vita so yeah, remote play interests me.

This is actually true. They didn't say the game was going to look the exact same on both consoles.

So they "want to provide the best possible experience to all our gamers regardless of the platform" yet they "are not aiming to develop special graphical features for any of them",

Right....

Thats a pretty whack thread title, just because there aren't specific graphical features exclusive to PS4 doesn't mean parity. It'll likely manifest itself as IQ differences rather like every other title.

I think devs want their games to sell well, and purposefully gimping one or the other will negatively impact their bottom line. They have incentive to go back and push either console as far as time allows because it can mean more money.

I don't understand how putting less effort into each individual version of the game makes them good guys.

What's next? Gimping the PC version of games for platform parity? Oh wait...

Kind of what I thought of.

XB1 is getting a sweet collector's edition (of course this happens on both consoles) with physical extras not available anywhere. Obviously MS wants The Witcher 3 players to buy it on XB1. Who knows, MS may have shelled out a bit more money to CDPR for parity's sake.

Everyone that has an XB1 or PS4 knows the PS4 is more powerful. Most devs are taking advantage of this. Why wouldn't CDPR?

Typical PR. They want to sell their game on every platform. We heard that pre current gen launch and now too. This is a pretty taxing open world game anyway and even with heavy optimizing, the xbone can only do so much. I would be surprised if it runs higher than 800p on MS console.

When they say special graphical features, I assume they mean something like creating custom AA solutions and other effects for respective hardware.

Examples:

Watch_Dogs Uses Custom SMAA For PS4 And Xbox One Versions
InFamous Second Son - SMAA 2TX Variant
Ryse - Custom SMAA 1TX
